The world of food production isn't 3d though.

That is the beauty of hydroponics but that is irrelevant as he does not have the tech that I do... So on topic he can grow kelp under water which gives a similarity to my farm buildings. But then again he cannot live in a kelp farm (well I dont think so) so I guess it is a moot point...

You still can't grow enough kelp to feed 50 billion people without choking the ocean though.

You can't make a chemical that multiplys stuff.

You can't travel faster then light.

You can't produce an energy source small enough to power a 'gigantic arc laser thing' that has the ability to burn things and be placed on a medium sized ship.

You can't do a lot of things.

I belive that it is much more possible that he makes kelp from the sea then the stuff you do. Now just think how big the sea is and think about how big the population is. Its possible.

No, it really isn't possible. If he was growing that much food, then 50% of his total income would go to maintaining the farms, and the other 50% to maintaining such a large population (infrastructure, daycares, jobs, hospitals, schools, etc). If that's the case, then his military is armed with whatever they found in Japan, meaning 40 year old technology, and definitely not enough of it for 50 billion people.

I don't quite think Retech (and you too Hex) really understand just how many people 50 billion is, and how much food they would require. You eat around 500 pounds of food per year (1 person!). 500 pounds x 50b = 25,000,000,000,000 pounds = 11,339,809,250 tonnes of food per year needing to be transported, packaged, sold, prepared and eaten.

Here is the food production for the world right now (roughly): http://www.historylink101.com/lessons/farm-city/per_capita.htm

Even with farming on the ocean floor, there's no where near enough food to support both your 50 billion population, as well as mine, Doom's, Grim's, Paul's, and Rpg's population which is around 20 billion right now.

This is all disregarding the fact that Japan doesn't even have enough land or coastal waters to support that gigantic of a population.

Erm, you don't have to pay farmers to farm their own food for themselves. <_<

Ok. I am gonna work this(population thing) out.

Anyway the people of Japan chose to join Dusty, but they have the choice to return to the Licht Empire in the future.(Basically Retech can ask to call a plebicite at any time(But no more than once in five years) and I will roll a die on it. You must get more than 67% to recover the empire)

The new Imperialist Empire(Which consists of about a billion people in the paradise zones on Capith something) will rejoin the empire if they have a written gurantee that females will always have more power and there is a never a 'king' otherwise they remain independant.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

about one million calories in a year.

Per person.

Kelp provides 4 calories of energy per 10 grams. So scaling up, you need 4 million grams of kelp per person...or 4 tonnes.

It also can lead to food poisioning...anyway.

The entire Atlantic is 82,400,000,000 square meters.

Kelp grows at around half a meter per day.

The Atlantic averages a depth of 3,339 meters.

A meter of kelp weights 80 grams.

Kelp forests have a density of 1 kelp per 12 square centimeters.

Kelp has a max height of 80 meters.

Licht need 2,740 calories per day.

Thus.

Every square meter provides 8.3 kelp plants. Each of which can produce 40 grams of kelp a day.

Thus 341,960,000,000 calories produced per day, if you controlled the whole Atlantic.

Now, for 5 billion Licht you need 13,700,000,000,000 Calories per day. For 50 billion I guess it is 130.7 trillion calories(unlike everything else on this page this is a guesstimate.)

Thus your kelp is clearly more productive than normal kelp. Thus we assume that it grows by 2 meters a day and has a nutritional value of 6 calories per 10 grams.

Which produces 1,367,840,000,000 Calories per day...which is still short of the lower goal. So we assume the Kelp also is denser, approximately 10 times denser(So each kelp has 1.2 square centimeters to itself.

13,678,400,000,000 Calories per day. We then assume that you also have land farms to make up the difference.

Now you, or rather Dusty's people, are just about scraping by by farming the whole Atlantic ocean, exposing themselves to famine if the farms were ever attacked.

Now the logistics of farming 82,400,000,000 square meters, or 6,592,000,000,000 cubic meters.

Now Human farmers tend to control areas of 488,000 meters(120 Acres). So thats 13,508,196 farms. So thats 14 million farmers(since some are smaller). Then each farm needs about 1000 hands(guesstimate) so thats 1.54 billion people involved with farming the Atlantic. Plus about half a billion(guesstimate) involved in transport, distribution and paper pushing.

Thus the effective, max army of the Licht, without causing food shortages, from Japan, is 3 billion. Though this might cause money problems

Though with about a billion pushed on Grim it should be easier.

Summery:

2 Billion involved with food.

Retech's Kelp grows at 2 meters a day, has a nutritional value of 6 calories per 10 grams, and grows in extremly dense concentrations of 83 per meter.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Can I call a plebicite thingy right now? :)

To the Imperialists, I send a message that I (the queen) will be around for a long time, so they can guarentee they'll have a queen for at least ten thousand years. Also, I reply that females will always have more power individually because the female vote is worth 9 times the male vote, if everyone voted.

Also, do I get my... 12.5 billion that fled from Japan? I'm sending unarmed transports to recover those people and return them to the homeworld.

-------------

To Dusty, I'm not so much interested in Japan as I am in my people. If I win my plebicite, then I'll evacuate everyone off the Earth, except for embassy officials of course.

As long as the transports are completely unarmed, yes. They'll be thoroughly searched by Federation officials to make sure none of the transports have the virus on board. If they do, the transports will be fired upon.

I hate to be so hostile but I've been virus bombed before, and anything threatening to use a virus to bomb an entire planet is near the top of the list of things I hate that people do in this game.

And you can keep your embassy on Japan, aye.

Thanks Dusty! The reason I was being so desperate was because events were beginning to turn against you. You've had that feeling before, haven't you? *hints at Alpha Centauri*

And virus bomb... I wonder who threatened to do that to me earlier *hints at Rocco*

Yes it's quite annoying.

And you started with the virus bombs, keep in mind.

No clue where Trol went, but I believe I took his lands way back, the map was never updated on the front page though. Regardless, Kazakh is part of TFed now. +His lands were in anarchy considering they haven't had a leader for 60 years now, didn't put up much of a fight.

Trol's a girl.

He really is.

Rocco threatened to virus bomb me 50 pages ago. Don't ya remember that?

Vaguely. If he had done it I would've declared war on him, but nothing came of it.

This situation was a bit different, in that you were threatening to virus bomb not just one of my planets, but one of my stronghold planets (Earth, Midgard, New Russia).

Hehe, my bad! :)

Actually, it's good that you're booting me out of Japan now. I just realized that I don't have nearly enough land to support that many people. Oh yes, permission for the group of monks that regard Mount Fuji as a sacred site, as well as pilgrims to come to Mount Fuji? They'd be in unarmed transports of course, which you could search.

I am starting a 10 year project that will be called Playwright (it will have a 10 year duration). So... I would like to know who is going to host the games after dusty. On a final note two space elevators on every Malaysian inhabited world are around 75 % complete (one is functional and one is at 50%)

Parliament has approved a new law that will relax the already-existing environmental laws slightly, just enough for some new projects to take place. However, the planets will still be protected.

Some massive Birds of Paradise have been discovered in central Eden. Their wingspan measures five feet. They have ruby-red feathers, and they have multi-coloured beaks.

A strange animal that makes a loud wailing noise has been discovered on the foggy hills of Annwn, an island off the coast of Terra, a continent on Britanniae. People refer to them as "banshees" due to their wails and their shadowy appearance. Some deaths have been reported. Victims have been discovered with massive gashes, which were created by razor-sharp claws.

Choose 50 billion Dusty! They'll be able to manage themselves, at least for a few turns until they choose me as their leader so I can ship them off the planet.

Archi, I'd like to call that vote thing to see if they'd like to join the empire again. Also, what happened with the Capiahns?

Fine 50 billion, but the Federation has enacted a 1 child policy (1 egg policy? 1 spawn policy?) to cut down on the gigantic population and unmanageable growth rate. The citizens are a bit iffy about this new change, but they realize that it is for the best, as starvation within a few years of that kind of continual growth is a very real possibility.

Litch in the Federation will also be required to do the mandatory 8 month military training programme.

Grim, I guess Arch can decide who hosts it next, or we can vote on it.

If we vote, my vote goes to Brazil.

The Magnate III is being created. It will resemble a space shuttle (but have a shape more like that of a stealth bomber), and it will be capable of entering a planet's atmosphere. It will also be capable of re-entering space due to powerful thrusters.

At the cost of a country-sized burn radius.

I just remembered one thing; I have the most advanced thrusters, the only ones who do not use hydrogen-oxygen combustion.
