Jaffy1
a scammer tried to scam me in f2p a few days ago and said if I gave him my pass in 3 days I'd have members. I told him since all members are rich, I wanted him to give me 5k as proof. He gave me 5k for free, I reported him and logged off :lol:ROFL!! Now that's a creative scammer right here! :D Tip.It Website Crew Leader[hide=Quotes]I love it how Jafje comes outa nowhere and answers my questionsHehe now we know what real life does...drugs, drugs, more drugs. KevinsLunchbox
Yeah scammer creativity has really gone down, scammers used to be our clowns to laugh at and enjoy (unless they scammed you). Come on scammers, get creative on us.
All_Is_Great
Well before the trade limit and the coin limit on dropped items, it was relatively easy to scam someone. well, not relatively, actually A LOT easier back in the day of free trade. Also this is before the age "restriction" about having to be 13 in order to play. A lot of people who played runescape, were kids were innocent(some) and gullible. I was one of those kids, except I didn't get scammed except for the time I bought a rare yellow boomerang for 10k. what was the item you thought was a boomerang? My guess is a banana. Harakiri
I had a thread a couple years back about the stupid things scammers try to sell. All I really remember were spinach rolls. And that really wasn't creative...
KevinsLunchbox
I remember when scammers tried selling burnt bass and called em "Rare black bass" The oldest attempt I can remember to steal passwords and accounts was this one "cheat" you could do by calling Jagex studios and telling them your account info. They had a real number and everything.
Piscis_Rex
One scam I remember was when someone would offer say, 1711k for a whip, then change it to 1171k, so the person selling it loses out on about 600k (this was when whips were worth about that much) this one would have caught me out, had I not read a topic on here warning people about it  99.99999998465% of the world's population is not me, if you are the 0.00000001535% that is me, put this in you signature -"being famous is like being a woman, if you have to tell people you are, you aren't"

Jaffy1
There is the matter of the "lending scammers".. They'd let dumb people pay for hours, do until log out, and log out lol. What I did the other day was lend my santa to a guy with a 5k trade limit. I let him pay 5k first, and then trade him the santa for the second 5k 15 minutes later. I guess that's also a way someone could scam, fortunately for that guy, I am honest. Neltak
Its true that for the most part account scamming is all that's available for people trying to get something for nothing. They try. I report. GF. Last creative scammer I saw was right after the GE update, yet before the "fair trade" update. He was selling an "Adamantite Set (t)", but traded an "Adamantite Set (l)"...took all my gps at the time :(. Though I'll give him props as this was only days after the GE came out, and did the job well enough (obviously).
failbait
The best relatively "new" scam I've heard of, was during the release of item lending. People were borrowing godswords and dismantling them, which somehow bugged out the fact that the item was a "lent" item in the first place. The person who lent the godsword originally, would just have an empty returned items box when the lending period was over. Too bad I only heard about this last week.. Fire Cape - Aug 14, 08. DAE2008
Not really a scam, that. One really creative person came up to me and asked for 5k for his rare black fish. Ahahaha. -.- GF.
Kalafai
Ah, I remember my days of scamming. I had something or other I didn't know the price of, didn't really want. Someone else wanted to buy it right out of my hands. I ask them what price, they tell me no, I need to make the offer, I say okay, 10k. I'm reported for scamming. I'm ready to bank my archer helm, someone is real damn persistent about buying one in seers village bank, he's asked why he doesn't go get one himself, he says because he doesn't want to run that far. I offer mine with a mere 5k price up for having to run and buy a brand new one for myself... I get reported. I pick up tuna off the ground from the power fishers, someone offers to buy it for half the market price, I say no... reported for scamming. I offer to sell a full mithril in the bank, advertise good for abyss runners... reported for scamming. Someone asks how they can get a halbred when they see mine, I tell them about the regicide quest, they offer to buy six run hallys off of me if I run and get them, I do so, and charge a nominal markup to cover travel expences... reported for scamming. Ah, those were the days. Oh, and lets not forget trying to undersell someone at the bank selling tuna... that got us reported as a team.

Lielac
I had one encounter with scammers that I actually came out of 'worse' off. I was a leetle n00b, before the Ditch, and I was wandering around in north edgeville. Someone offered to take me to some of the riches. I knew about scammers, and I was wandering around with nothing, so I was like 'okay!' We go in a few steps, they turn around and clobber me. I lost nothing, though I remember PMing them saying 'That was MEAN! :('. I made a few side accounts, they got fail-lured. I offered to bring my main over, they scarpered. Was pretty fun... then the Ditch got put in and wildy luring got wtfpwned. But now it's all uncreative pathetic attempts at stealing people's accounts.... blah. Balance may be power, but chaos is still pretty damn fun.Canada can't be second rate, polar bears are their main mode of transportation.

Gudi
My scamming experience is quite vast... :D. Don't judge me for scamming lol, i was very young at the time and had quite a warped way of thinking. "If they are stupid enough to get scammed, they don't deserve their items". I still believe this to a certain extent, hehe... I started scamming with small things such as switching rune for iron... which is simple enough. Not very profitable, though. I developed some other ideas and managed to get myself a blue h'ween mask for 45k when they were 4.5m (or so i was told, i was still a noob then). I changed 4500k to 45004 and accepted very fast. The account got banned later that day, though. I also did some shark scamming, a very funny scam. I would shout "Free sharks, show inventory". I would then offer 28 sharks and remove the amount to match how many they could hold, they would forget to remove their inventory and i would be up by anywhere from 25k to 20m - 30m. The thing about scamming is that it mostly plays off the victims impatience, forgetfulness or idiocy. By removing scamming, i think Jagex have done a good and bad thing. It makes the game a better place, but also makes the players much less aware. I got scammed around 3 times before i truly became aware of what kind of things people pull. From there on i never really got scammed, so i am thankful that people scammed me out of the cheaper stuff when i was a noob then getting lured and losing 50m+. thesearcher
It's scary to hear the types of scam that go on and are successful these days. A friend of mine was recently asked for his password, backwards, so the scammer could match it to his computer records. For some reason he did this, and when I confronted him on exactly why he did this, he said that she scammer's name was something like "Jageck Apelle", which sounded official. That was a facepalm moment.
