August 9, 200916 yr Hey guys, Isnt training like attack, defence, etc the best way to go in the game? To focus your effort? Your combat level is always visable to other (if they click on you obviously), so you can like, show off your progress? Im not saying training the other skills is pointless, far from it, but you cant really show them off (unless your doing something that requires a high level in that skill). The capes are only the really most effective way to show off your skill progress, but quite a lot of people may not know what the cape is, which would mean that your progress goes unmissed. People who play simply for getting their favourite skills up may probably not agree with me, but isnt it always good to show off your hard work? I just thought your combat level is a very pleasing way to do that. Combat also means you can go more or less anywhere without getting killed, more freedom.
August 9, 200916 yr It's best to train all skills, because if someone is that bothered about your progress in-game, there is the high-scores or lunar spell (stat spy) that lets you view a players stats And of course there is always a skill cape if you train for long enough, to show you progress. You only live twice. Once when you are born and once when you look death in the face. Do not fear Death. Death is always at our side. When we show fear, it jumps at us faster than light. But, if we do not show fear, it casts its eye upon us gently and then guides us into infinity...
August 9, 200916 yr Author Yeh I know its best to train all skills, but like isnt the combat skills probabaly the best way to go as your also your your combat levels up which can be visable to everyone, even those who do not know that the skill capes are? Plus you also have to get 99 in a skill to get the cape, whereas if your only at 95 in all combat skills your combat level is still going to be very high.
August 9, 200916 yr Combat isn't the only way to enjoy RS. And when you're pure, combat level is a poor indicator of power.
August 9, 200916 yr if your that focused on showing your progress, i guess so, but it can be deceiving, like 3hit mentioned If someone asks you can always state your non-combat stats through quick chat though. You only live twice. Once when you are born and once when you look death in the face. Do not fear Death. Death is always at our side. When we show fear, it jumps at us faster than light. But, if we do not show fear, it casts its eye upon us gently and then guides us into infinity...

I'll have to agree with you on this one: I was doing Slayer when someone came up and stat spied me and started making fun out of my low level Herblore and said it should be higher for my CB. I often see people get called "noobs" for having high CB but fairly low everything else.
August 9, 200916 yr I feel like somebody that needs to have their progress displayed for the world to see is too worried about their appearance and how they are viewed. If you're level 87. Cool. Be level 87 combat. If you have a level 99, cool. Runescape has become so involved in displaying achievements for everyone to see. Don't worry about what the world see you as, have fun.. it's Runescape. Come on... August 9, 200916 yr Combat also means you can go more or less anywhere without getting killed, more freedom. Not always. My lower combat level means that I can mine Runite in f2p without being attacked by the Revenant Knights (and I have to admit it's both cool and a little scary to watch one just glide past while I stand there). Check out my blog to read the Adventures of a Big Damn (F2P) Hero. THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P. August 9, 200916 yr combat is not the best way to go. sure you can make some great money, but most of it is luck. if you want consistent cash, skilling is the way to go. ~ 3,072nd to 99 Mining on August 30th, 2009 ~~ 112,084th to 99 Magic on April 16th, 2011 ~~ 131,681st to 99 Crafting on March 29, 2019 ~~ 178,385th to 99 Prayer on April 2, 2019 ~~ 234,921st to 99 Defence on May 9, 2019 ~~ 173,480th to 99 Herblore on June 21, 2019 ~~ 155,160th to 99 Smithing on July 16, 2019 ~
August 9, 200916 yr If showing off is what you're most concerned about, wearing flashy expensive items gathers more attention than a high combat level. In fact, the lower your combat, the more impressive your flashy expensive items are! You'll want to train other skills to afford that. Do you hate Wyverns or Warped Terrorbirds? Think again! August 9, 200916 yr To purely show off, sure combat seems like a good indicator. But as a habit of mine I usually look up most people around my combat level, and when you see someone with like 1800 total at 130+ combat you know they only do combat. You should play the game for yourself, not just to show off. As for you saying people don't know all the skill capes, that is their own problem. If you look at a skill cape for more than 2 seconds you can easily distinguish which one it is. There is other status indicators aswell, such as the achievement diaries. They show your progress in a variety of both skills and quests. Someone who is really into woodcutting may sport the lumberjack outfit which takes many hours to get, but when you see someone in it, you know they enjoy woodcutting. Same with the inferno adze, requires 92 firemaking and is the best axe for training woodcutting. With fishing you can switch over to barbarian style fishing to show off your level (96 fishing is required to hand fish sharks). Summoning has various familiars and pets along the way to show your level. Agility has special clothing at levels 85 and 90 to show level. There are many ways in the game to show your progress through the game. If anyone is actually interested in your account they could easily look you up anyways.
August 9, 200916 yr I respect the unbuyables more than anything, combat doesn't really mean much although it's definately great fun. Things as status symbols rares etc people always want, although merchants do create a false sense of what's the latest "fashion" or an "artificial demand" and profit greatly from it we're stuck playing piggy in the middle. I miss the days of not being able to see your combat level, that + wearing bronze = Heaven. =P~
August 9, 200916 yr I play for myself, not to show off my skills. If someone wants to know what lvl my skills are, they can look in the high scores. Simple as that right? That is correct sir. I train my non-combat kills because I enjoy them, and I don't train combats because I don't find them fun to train. ;) It's very simple, basically all personal preference in the end though. August 9, 200916 yr Combat isn't the only way to enjoy RS. And when you're pure, combat level is a poor indicator of power. It's a pretty good indicator... pures kill often and die often as well When you have level 50s running around with 99 strength, it's a poor indicator. If it was a good indicator you wouldn't ever need to look up your target on the highscores before you fought. people who used to stake wouldn't need hard to look up names since their combat level would indicate how strong they are.
August 9, 200916 yr Training your combat skills and ignoring your non-combat skills would actually be a good way to go. You'd get a high combat, then have the ability to fight high level bosses, which would make you hundreds of millions. Then you could use those hundreds of millions to quickly burn your way through several non-combat skills. And yet people insult players with high combats and low totals. :P When combat gets boring, you skill! By popular demand, this signature is back- however I currently do not have a blog up at the moment and if I did I wouldn't update it. Sorry, the sig links to nowhere :( .
August 9, 200916 yr Until people decide to check out your other stats, see you're 30 combat levels higher with a lower total. Then you'll be mocked. I just like to train a bit of everything. The stats I enjoy get trained more. I found myself forced to train some stats higher for Stealing Creation since I love the mini-game and higher levels make it more enjoyable. August 9, 200916 yr Everyone's going to have different opinions based on how they like to enjoy runescape. If you like showing off to people then I guess you would get your combat levels up. But alot of people don't care what other people think so they don't go out of their way to impress people. So maybe for you getting combat levels would be the best way for you to enjoy the game, but as for me... :-#
August 9, 200916 yr The game revolves around combat and trying to totally avoid it is just silly. I have had two friends that told me that they "ruined" their skiller by gaining a hitpoints level in some way or another. A week later I looked up their status on the highscores only to see that they had raised 50 attack levels! It seems then that they suppressed their combat levels to adhere to the stereotypical level 3 skiller. Not liking combat is one aspect, avoiding it completely is another. To each their own, but it just seems like a bother to conform to locked skills.
August 9, 200916 yr Combat IS the best money maker in the game. Primary skills (skills that rely on gathering primary materials to be used to produce a final product) are useful as well. Secondary skills (skills which use the primary products to make the final product) are for the most part USELESS (minus runecrafting -- one exception that I can find)... unless you get some weird joy or satisfaction from training them for whatever reason, they are no longer viable money making skills. In fact, instead of making you money, they will COST you money at present market conditions. Examples (primary skills on left ---> secondary on right): Fishing --- > Cooking Farming ---> Herblore Woodcutting ---> Fletching Mining ---> Smithing Other primary skills which don't really allocate their resources to any specific skill: Hunting Thieving etc. For all these skills, the primary resources cost more than the finished product that the secondary skill produce. So in the end, you will be losing money if you move onto training the secondary skills... there is no profiting on that end... it's not economically efficient even if you use the primary skills to collect the primary resources yourself.. you're better off selling them and making a higher profit. Combat would also fit into the "primary skill"... and there are very few skills (if at all) that can be compete with its money making abilities at higher levels. None of the primary skills I listed can. I personally don't like training most skills except combat... mostly for economic reasons.. another is that combat offers some excitement as an end result of training (i.e. your drops after killing a monster are always different, whereas for other skills, its always the same product)... and combat seems to be the way to "show" your power. Combat skills are definitely the winners. August 9, 200916 yr I do both obviously but I find the best way for me to make progres in both combat and non-combat skills is to train one and then take a break by doing another. If I had to choose my favourite out of the two though it would probably be non-combat skills. Thanks to littleboy for the signature.
August 10, 200916 yr Well, my friend thinks that combat is everything. I tell him to get stuffed. Combat may be a large portion of the game, but it's not the ONLY portion of the game. People do tend to judge on combat level though, which is quite annoying :wall:
August 10, 200916 yr With the current status quo, combat stats are by far the best to train.
