This is exciting, looking forward to seeing these changes in game. :)

I hope they update all the old graphics with this new thing, (Like monkeys and Dagannoths updated to their looks from the summoning skill.) it's a longshot but still. :P

Day and night seem's more possible now, yay! :D

I don't care about day or night. I want new st00f.

day or night introduces some cool things though. what if there was a dungeon that was only available at night? Plus jagex could easily make it a 23 hour day so that eventually all players can play at night.

it should be area-based (using your country info when registered or your ip)

Another blog that points to day and night.

Not to burst anyone's bubble but:

My question for you is about "Particle Physics". How are you going to implement them into the game (if you are), for better animations/graphics pertaining to lighting, magic spells, glowing effects, etc? Will we see this in an animation pack coming in the near future?

Also, a lot of people have been discussing day/night, and the graphics seen in Runehq's concept art by Jagex. The detailing on the house is much better than before - will we see day/night released with an upgrade to compatibility with direct x (which will allow for better graphics, without sacrificing players ability to play with these graphics), and possibly some graphic reworks to give a few more places much more life, and detail?

A) Captain my Captain :)

Yes you will start seeing more advanced particle effects as mentioned above and naturally also better animations as well.

You will start seeing a lot of the older graphics getting upgraded over time.

I don't believe we are currently looking at Day/Night effects.

I think it's been more lighting effects they've been working on, not actual day/night.

I am so hyped for Runetek5 now. SD in fullscreen with a few extra graphic options is going to be great. Plus it will fix the GE Bug which can get a bit annoying for some people. One thing I'm hoping for is that they still allow players to use the smaller screen versions, because for some tasks using the liquid screen makes things harder than the original small screen.

How many times has MMG lied about some updates well a couple times not to mention he avoided the pictures and why would they need to update the lighting if there isn't something like Day and Night coming.

I recall talk of particle effects in animating magic spells.

perhaps tht will be part of a future animation pack?

Also speculation of weather intrigues me - it would sit well with skyboxes and improved lighting etc

But also recall the being of the fairy quest series we were employed by mister farmer as the season were all out of whack and ruining crops...the season are out of whack due to the fairies...the fairy quest line is ending soon.

Perhaps the end of their story will bring us weather?

I don't think so, I think they are trying to go with consistency, and they said they didn't want to have both the fixed and fluid screen sizes for SD and HD. They wanted one engine for both SD and HD, so making SD fluid too would help.

I could be wrong, and also I guess there could be a setting. And also some people's computers may not handle a full screen SD, if they included that option.

I absolutely LOVE when RuneScape releases new things like this.

even though I'd like to see more content than graphics, I can't stop myself from getting very exited. Trying to be hopeful here, I'll say there will be content to accompany the graphical upgrades. most preferably a new skill.

The only thing i don't really like is the new minimap. I'm all for them changing the way it looks but is adding depth really the way to go? It just seems a little out of place in both screenshots.

They need to add skyboxes so we can pilot airships at level 95 sailing.

No one ever said we had to sail in the water. Sailing ship in the air. <3:

Correction:

They said RS2 original launch and exsisting SD run on runetek 3 which CANNOT support the HD graphic options.

While runetek 4 runs agraphic options and features but CANNOT run low cpu usage SDness

Runetek5 supports BOTH the basic stuff of SD and the high end options of HD in a single engine, whihc allows some of the less cpu munching hd options to be applied to SD. Runetek5 also supports things such as direct x opengl and consoles so tht the single graphics engine can run many many forms of the game.

Looks fantastic. I've always been the most interested in the Game Engine team, I personally think that's where the most interesting line of work is.

This looks awesome.

I cant wait for the skyboxes and other added features.

I liked how the updated world map looked like aswell.

Was more HD-ish.

I just want an option to have older graphics...I don't like the new ones at all. That's why I play on Standard Definition, it's the closest I could get to Low Detail with RS2...

A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.

I am really really looking forward to those skyboxes, will those mean we won't have that distance fog anymore?

From what ive understood after reading a few complex ways of explaining skyboxes, thats what I think it means.

SKYBOXES! YAY! Finally a more realistic feel without feeling like there's a glass ceiling pressed down on you so much as before.

I think we might still have some distance fog, recalling from other games I've seen (depending on the view angle, the fog will still show, but not as thickly as other angles).

As for the lighting effects, I wonder if that includes the blasts of magic each time we used strikes/bolts/etc. :-k Would be interesting to see not to geometrically polygon-shaped blasts.
