So basicly, wich would be your 10 best home consoles of all time?

Here are mine:

10: Dreamcast

9:atari 2600

8: genesis

7:neogeo

6:gamecube

5:n64

4:ps2

3:ps1

2:NES

1: SNES

PS: I didnt include current gen consoles as i think it isnt right to judge something that hasnt left it's prime and all 3 current home consoles are still going strong, your free to include them.

You had a neogeo? Are you some kind of millionare.

My experience with neo geo comes mostly from Virtual console, it's original price was outstandingly high (can't recall, but i think higher than the fabled 599 us dollars)

Ugh, NES #1. Such a boring article. And Jesus Christ, they put 3DO on it? Really? That system was such a failure lol. I remember having a friend who owned one, it was a terrible system.

I would maybe rank consoles like such:

5. NES

4. Xbox 360

3. Saturn

2. N64

1. Dreamcast

Those are probably my 5 favorite consoles I've owned. I was never a big sony person (although PS3 is crazy tempting) and I never actually owned a SNES or Genesis, although I don't know if either would make my top 5 anyways.

NES is #5 but even though it had some solid stuff there was just way too much crap on the system. I played my NES a lot as a kid (sitting on my parents waterbed infront of our TV) but I probably played classic DOS games more, a lot more.

360 I had to put #4 just because it really is a very solid console, even if it is a current gen one. It has a decent library (I've been liking it more and more due to more of the live arcade than retail releases though) and the controller is one of my favorites.

Saturn I think was really underrated as a console, due to the PS1. In all honesty if you were a fan of 2D it was a [bleep]ing brilliant machine, and it has a lot of very solid game offerings on it. Sadly it didn't really utilize it's full potential, which sucks because it was a powerful [bleep]ing machine. Also the built in hard drive was great, not having to lob around a memory card like the PS1.

N64 is probably a little too generic of a choice, but it can't really be helped. I played this console a ton, and it certainly was one of the first to really show people what could be done with 3D. It's decision to still use cartridges as well, while it seemed foolish back in the day (and certainly $60-$70 games back then sucked to buy), I think was a solid choice as N64 games did not have the horrible load times that plagued the PS1.

Finally the Dreamcast is easily my favorite console of all time. It was the first console to fully embrace online support, which brought in all of these awesome opportunities. Playing with people across the globe on Phantasy Star Online, or playing a match In UT '99 was awesome stuff. Add in an awesome library of games, two solid Sonic offerings (and the only good 3D sonics made, unless you count the isometric Sonic on the saturn) and a beefy system and you have a winner.

Not to mention that since the console was so easily hackable (all you have to do to run emulators, game ISO's, ect. is to burn a [bleep]ing CD) it makes it so that the console is even awesome today. Instead of having to hunt for 10 year old games I can just download an ISO of the game, burn it to a CD and play it on my dreamcast perfectly. The Bleam! emulator allows you to run a lot of PS1 games on your dreamcast, some which have upscaled effects.

Also, the VMU was awesome.

I'm not counting PC as a console though, even though it probably technically is I don't think it really matters. I would put PC as #1 then though.

I'm not going to click on the link because IGN being as predictable as they are, they probably chose the NES as number 1

hatsune-miku-wallpaper-49-1.jpg

Is there really a point to this list, IGN? Hell, there are barely even twenty-five consoles people would count as good, let alone best. A top ten list, maybe, but twenty-five? Sheesh.

3. PS2.

2. SNES.

1. Dreamcast.

I've owned a N64, Gamecube, Ps2, and Xbox 360. I think my picks would be pretty biased.

Never been a console guy, but playing the old games on simulators is a pretty good history lesson in the development of games and why some of them were so epic, even without using the controllers.

I'm not biased but I dont think any of the consoles this generation, especially the Xbox deserve to be on any list.

Wow better graphics and online.

PC's had it first. They didnt do anything first >.<

I dont need a siggy no moar.

Since when did the Xbox do something other than establish a better connection, for a price?

So far nothing. Project Natal would be the only new thing Microsoft do.

EDIT: I may be the only one, but I find it ironic how you say I'm biased. I think you stalk me for some unknown reasons, or maybe it has something to do with love.

NES on #1 is dumb btw, it really is overrated.

I am starting to hate IGN more and more when they come to consoles. That list is pretty. I didn't even know there were 25 consoles, let alone 25 GOOD ones. NES as #1..... they are pretty overrated, and while it is a classic, that doesn't mean there isn't anything better than it.

My top 3 would probably go:

3. N64

2. Xbox 360

1. PS2

PC would trump them all though, but I don't count it.

You fail to realise that graphics and online are very important factors on why people would buy the console. It's not just a 'whatever' thing.

Tbh, I browse VG&C forums, sorry that it has to be that way.

Hmm, if I am not mistaken, PC's have pretty much the same graphics.

And, no, you dont just browse, you stalk, no matter how many people post in a thread you quote me. It's getting a tad pathetic.

The Xbox has tons over the PS3. The whole online system is better. Connecting with your friends is easy. You can join parties and talk to them while your both playing different games. You can quickly download games to your harddrive and get fast downloads for game demo's. You can hook Netflix up to your console and stream movies directly to it.

There are a ton of things that make the Xbox 360 a better choice for consoles.

As for my #1 console, it would have to be the SNES. Super Mario World has to be one of the best games I've ever played. Star Fox, Donkey Kong Country 2, and Super Mario Bros. 3 make it even better.

As Nadril stated, this is about consoles.

As for me "stalking", I quote you because nobody else makes such stupid biased comments as you seem to in every thread you go. :wall:

Eh, for number #1 I'd have the PS2 heh followed by SNES. Man, I have some good memories with SNES.

Ah.

I still want to choose PC.

I can't really make a list because I have only really owned a 360, Wii, and a regular xbox.

PC would be top if it was Gaming systems rather than Gaming consoles. If it wasnt top I think alot of people would flame IGN.

Why are you talking about the PC in a console thread again?

Dont remember. Werent we talking about consoles in a PC thread? Or am i thinking of somewhere else..?

Urk, IGN.

The Wii is kinda underrated by "serious gamers" but it doesnt deserve the #1 spot imo. I think the PS2 does.

And still, Skully, you arent exactly king of all fairness. You are biased yourself, probably more than me.

I dont need a siggy no moar.

Well until the mid 2000s I was a PC gamer and I didn't play all that much TBH. I played a few older RTS games like AOE, Zoo Tycoon, and some old Star Wars games. I credit Runescape with bringing me into gaming, even though it's gone down the [cabbage]ter in recent years. The whole MMORPG thing struck some chord with me.

So the first console I actually owned was a PS2 which I bought in about...2005? Just after they brought out the slim I think. So I can't judge any console before Playstation 1 really, on which I played at my friends house quite a bit, and I'm not going to try as its hard to judge from today's perspective.

I own these now however

6. Wii

5. PSP

4. DS

3. PS2

2. Playstation 3

1. Xbox 360

I judge PSP from the multimedia aspect really, it's my portable DVD player. It was a gift from my parents, which, whilst not unwelcome, wasn't really wanted as I don't really want any games on it. But it functins well as a DVD player. If it came to games I'd rank it lowest. I think PS3 and 360 are fairly even really, but the party chat feature just pushes 360 up.

Worse community pushes 360 down. :wall:

Im more of a PS3 fanboy than the other 2 consoles ;)

But Vale, for the PSP, I've heard a few times that it is possible to hack into it and even play GBA games.

I wouldnt exactly think so though.

I dont need a siggy no moar.
