you didn't got my point at all -.- i didn't meant limiting to p2p, i meant limiting to paying extra\mems each month, and not by "renting servers" - as this paying way might cause problems and will turn new classic to ghost-town.

I see you ment it slightly different than I thought, but my point still stands: whenever these "ghost towns" arise, servers will shut down (it's no fun paying for a server that isn't used), and only the good ones remain, which people will play.

It's pretty stupid to only let P2P'ers pay for a server. There is no reason at all to limit it. People who want a server, should be able to get one. If you're afraid that there will be too many servers... then the problem will solve itself. Once the initial rush is over, a few good servers will remain, and people will play those.

Limiting it to P2P doesn't do anything but annoy people.

I dont think renting servers would cause it to turn into a "ghost town". Infact, it would cause quite the opposite to happen. Those who do not wish to pay for a server anymore, simply stop paying and the server is turned offline.

Think of it like Vent Servers. There are some vent servers that have hundreds of users, and some that have 2. All you have to do is join a "popular" RSC server and it wont be a ghost town at all.

This method also has another benefit. Those who are rich in real life can run a server, and those who do not have the money to fork over for one, can take in the luxary of those willing to pay to run them. So in this case, everyone benefits.

So yes, after the inital rush, alot of the servers will die down, and alot take offline. But all the ones taken offline simply means the ones still online will get more populated.

This update gives players a choice they never had before. A way to experience "old school" content without limits. So now the ones who complain RS was "ruined" by the RWT updates, or love to cheat, lor ost all their items and gave up, and those who dont want to spend hours to have the best things in a game, all have a place to go to have some fun.

I fear player - owned servers will suck! However, I know I will at least try them out. It wouldn't bring back the old RS Classic but it would be cool, especially if I don't need to train my char back to 99 92 99 (RSC stats from when RS2 was launched).

:\ In my opinion, quite pointless. Focus on RuneScape, where people are PAYING to play, though I don't know if Classic is p2p only?

But there are people who are willing to pay to play classic. Many of my friends claim they miss it, and are no doubt going to be very happy about this update. I know at least one player who would no doubt pay for servers.

Right now classic is only for players who logged in within a certain window of time. When that happened, it was p2p only (a lot of f2p users where botting in it so it shut that down). I've never tried logging in when my membership last dropped, so I couldn't tell if it's still p2p only. I'd assume it is though.

High-alching that REALLY expensive item in my inventory looks more and more tempting with every beer I drink.

Glory exists, Dragon long and baxe to, as well as the med and sq shield.

Defenders got added waaaaay later #-o

my bad...what about d chain? kbd i'm 99% sure existed at classic...any other bosses existed?

and my point still stands. 90% of servers will go down, maybe a few for staking&pvping. nobody will stay cause it's calssic...people will prefer to be back to runetek5 faster than you think...so i don't think the hassle jagex going to put in this huge project really worth it.

Because a lot of people want to replay RSC, and it'll be an extra chance for Jagex to make money from current F2Pers who want to play RSC again. And it's like 2 people that are working on it, so it isn't that big of a problem for RS2.

They are talking about virtual servers, so this means they'll use bits of servers that aren't full to accommodate the new RSC servers.

As for the everyone knowing each other bit, I'm sure if you rent a server, a lot of your friends will play on that server. You'll know almost everyone on your server if you want to limit it, giving a nice friendly atmosphere.

I really really hope they get this made, and that it turns out payable. I wonder thou, how much modding will be possible? Would you be able to put a BDK in Lumbridge? Let it spawn R2H's everywhere? Or more pre-defined possibilities..

Player owned classic servers? Cool I guess. I did all but 2 of the quests back in classic, legends being one of them; I've always wanted to try doing that one in classic. But for whatever reason, my classic account was reset long ago back to a lvl 3 noob. No idea why. I guess this will give me an opportunity to do that quest.

That probably won't take all that long though. I really doubt I'll get into this whole player run servers thing unless they also let player rent runetek5 cheat servers. Would be nice if I could experiment with some of the spiritual shields, but I doubt that's going to happen.

I fear for many players nostalgia will only be fun as a memory. I guess a lot of topics like "new servers are OK, but don't have the real RSC feeling" will show up after it's been released. If you look at (our) current RSC forums, a lot posts are in the lines of "RSC was great because everyone knew each other", or "RSC was great because of the community". Those things won't come back with these new servers. Another problem is people tend to let their memories be more positive then reality and very few people like to be confronted with that.

Because of this, I predict this will turn out into a big let down for a lot of older players.

I think people knew eachother due to the ammount of interaction needed between players. Plus the smaller size of map and fewer things to do in the game. Plus people stuck to the same servers more.

KBD was the only bossmonster ingame.

The dragon items I just mentioned are the only ones available, and it are the best itesm for melee combat in the game.

Hint: do not get a rune scimmy on rsc! get a baxe or 2H instead, because the speed is the same for all weapons ;)

I'm just going to assume you have never played Classic before. Honestly I don't think it's fair for you to make assumptions about what people will do when RSC comes out, because you never played the true game and don't understand how epic it is. Chances are, many people will go to a separate server and never go back to RS2.

You have to take into account the amount each server will cost. It's not cheap to run a server. If you search around for Runescape Private Servers currently, it takes quite a big buck to operate each server a month. I'm going to guess Jagex will, at the lowest possible cost, charge a 50 dollar fee per month, but most likely even more upwards to 100 or 150. With a price like that, there won't be room for 90% of the servers to go down. With a price like that 90% that should of gone down, simply don't even pay.
