Well that was a weird game, poor habs lol.

Kessel with another two points, and grabo line finally got a bit of offense going.

Kessel is really getting under my skin lol.

Time to go drink that game away

It was an interesting game to say the least. Hopefully that's behind Pavelec now and we can get some half decent goaltending this roadtrip.

Yeah, most goals in one game since the lockout.

Solid road win by the leafs tonight as well.

Take one of Boston at the bottom East... feels nice especially since the Habs put them there :)

Torres is getting slammed by fans about his choice of Halloween costume. He dressed up as Jay-Z. Eh, I don't really find it racist, I just think people are throwing that term around too much nowadays.

Another win in the bank. Hopefully Jersey and Buffalo won't give us too much trouble this week.

Woo, Kessel named first star of the NHL for October!

Kessel, Lehtonen, Khabibulin are October's stars

Toronto forward Phil Kessel's sizzling start has earned him October's highest honor.

Kessel on Tuesday was named October's Player of the Month in the NHL with Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen coming in second and Edmonton goalie Nikolai Khabibulin landing in third place.

Kessel finished October leading the League with 10 goals and 18 points in 11 games. He has been held off the score sheet only twice and has five multiple-point games, including two 3-point games and a season-high 4-point game on Oct. 8 against Ottawa, when he also had a hat trick.

His torrid start has helped the Maple Leafs jump out to the early lead in the Northwest Division with a 7-3-1 record. Their 15 points are one better than the streaking Senators, who have won six straight games.

Lehtonen has been the difference-maker in Dallas, helping the Stars tie Pittsburgh for the most wins in the League with eight. Lehtonen is responsible for all of them, while his goals-against average (1.75) is fourth in the NHL and his save percentage (.947) is tied for second with Los Angeles' Jonathan Quick.

Lehtonen has allowed more than two goals in a game only once through his first nine starts. The Stars have 16 points (8-3-0) to lead the Pacific Division.

Khabibulin, who won only 10 of his 47 appearances last season, has helped the Oilers get out to one of the NHL's most surprising starts. He has a 5-0-2 record and leads the League with a 1.12 GAA and .960 save percentage. He has not allowed more than two goals in any of his seven starts, and Edmonton leads the Northwest Division with 16 points (7-2-2).

I wonder if he'll keep it up. Past years sort of echo what might happen.

j0xPu5R.png

Well, he's certainly not going to keep up a goal per game pace. A point per game pace is possible..

Personally I think he finishes the year with 40ish goals, 35ish assists. Which would still be awesome..

Leafs first in the league :D (granted, we do have a few more games than a few other good teams).

Difficult to say. Is it that he's playing that well, or is that he's got some sweet offence in front of him, controlling the puck away from his defensive zone, and the Oilers' "D" is playing just that much better this year? Khabibulin has never traditionally put up the kind of numbers to merit his #1 status -- and he's 38 now -- which means he's nearing the end of his career. I dunno -- maybe he's finally going to pull something out of his backside and play his "A" game every night for a change? He's overdue for it.

From what I have seen -- he's played well, for sure, this season with a .963 save percentage, but he's not really been challenged too much. Over the past 5 games, he's averaging only 28 shots against per game, and in the two games he's got his donuts, he only had 19 shots each game.

That said, Edmonton's had some awesome young guns "up and coming" in their roster for a while now: Gagner, Eberle, Hall -- now Nugent-Hopkins -- so they've got some good young legs out there that can bury the puck. On top of that, they added a character player in Ryan Smyth (one of my all-time fave players) and bolstered up their "D" with Cam Barker out of Minny, where he learned *how* to play defence.

Frankly, I am really excited about this Edmonton team this year. I doubt they will win the Cup, but I think they may go a long way -- and I will be excited to watch them play for years to come.

Guarantee it, the Cup will come back to Edmonton soon -- maybe sooner than we think!!

Perhaps, could be a kind of "Dwayne Roloson" type year.. The Oiler's offense is clicking really well, much earlier than expected, but their defense is really weak (on paper at least).

I've only watched bits and pieces, but I did see some pretty bad defensive mistakes which is why I don't think it'll last.

Offensively, they're definitely set - likely to be one of the most high scoring offenses in the league for quite some time, and I agree that they'll likely win a cup.

But I think Bulin playing lights out combined with a somewhat lucky defense is still the biggest reason for their upswing, and that at least can't last..

Anyway, it's been a topsy-turvy start lol (Boston last in the east????), so a lot of things will fall back into place by the end of the year I'm sure.

Oh God, that was sad. And of course Seguin gets the hat trick :wall:
