Summoning vs Herblore

Featured Replies

WGS is coming around the corner for me as I only have a handful of quests and 1-2 requirements to fill before I tackle the quest.

Looking ahead, I'm considering either summoning and herblore (maybe agility?) for my 4 allotments of 100k xp. I've ruled out construction as I won't be getting level 65 nor will I be needing that high level a house anyway. Prayer is also out since it's slightly cheaper than herblore and summoning and I'll have level 78 before I even do WGS.

So I'm left with herblore, summoning, and perhaps agility. (While they're not there now, assume that they'll be at 65 when I complete WGS) Herblore is pretty expensive at around 25 GP/xp, so each allotment would be worth 2.5 mil to me along with a lot of time making potions or cleaning herbs. I don't really know the costs of summoning or the time it takes, but I hear using the kyatt is super quick and overall summoning is at least faster to train than herblore, provided you have the charms. Lastly there's agility. As much as I like the uses of the skill, I don't like training it too much <_<

What would be the best split of my XP?

can you make over 2 mil gp/hour?

I haven't crunched the actual efficiency numbers, by my gut feeling is that if you don't have a money maker that yields over 2 mil gp/hour, go with herblore

Herblore for all of it. It's more expensive then prayer and summoning. Summoning is much cheaper then both of them unless you burst for the charms btw.

For all 4 allotments?

Just how expensive is summoning anyway? Another factor that has to be considered is that I still have to go out and collect charms, and I'm not too heavy on combat.

Summoning is cheap and you can get charms through slayer or whatever. Go with herb.

I'd put it on herb, because since you have to go collect the charms, chances are, the other drops you should be collecting alongside the charms could easily net you quite a bit in cash, and then you could use that to level up the summoning.

How can summoning be cheap? When I looked at some of the pouches, they cost quite a few shards and the other ingredient was expensive for most good training methods.

A side question: Should I wait until 66 to use my golds on barker toads or just burn through them now and make t birds? I'll end up being able to use war torts, so I dunno if my tbirds will become obsolete. But barker toads would be even more useless.

If you Waterfiend, that'll pretty much pay for your shards and seconds. Put it on herblore. If you're not, put it on slayer or something slow

I want to save money: Herblore. It is the most expensive skill to train (although it is very fast)

I want to save time: Runecrafting. It is still the slowest skill to train. Although I wouldn't bother lamping past 75 runecrafting, the last useful level (Ardougne Elite). 91 Runecrafting is pitifully slow money nowadays.

Don't waste it on summoning, it is a rather easy and cheap skill. In an hour you can average about 48k summoning xp (including getting charms and money), whereas herblore averages about 38k xp an hour (assuming you make 1m/hour and already have access to the best training potions (90+ herblore)).

I don't know why you'd bother on agility.

Agility or RC'ing.

Far slower exp/hour for both of them and can't be brought, I don't regret getting 70 agility from WGS one little bit.

I would say herblore if you want to save money, it looks like it has got a lot more expensive to train now

T bird will never be obsolete because of its energy restoring special and its low cost.

War tortorise is so expensive that... you only want to bring it for tough fights.

Btw, my herb is still 63 and I have finished WGS, just for your reference.

You can finish the quest and keep your xp reward unclaimed untill whenever you want to use it. It is not a lamp, there is no rush to use them all.

Say summoning can be trained at 40k/h, and a cost of 7 gp/xp. Using lamps on it would save you 2.8m and 10 hours.

Herblore can be trained at 320k xp/h and 28 gp/xp (magic pots cost that atm). Using lamps on it would save you 1.25 hours and 11.2m.

By spending it on summoning you save 8.75 hours at the cost of 8.4m, so if you make about 1m/h or more it's better to use it on summoning

You don't have the level for magic pots yet though, so idk it would probably be more practical to use it on herblore.

Seriously without your maxed RC'ing and agility don't waste it on a buyable skill. Yes it will save some money, but when your talking 30k exp/hour on a none buyable skill vs 60k+/hour on a buyable skill its silly to waste the free exp.

I actually put all of mine on slayer. I was 97 slayer and struggling with motivation. The experience pushed me past 98 and then the last level went quite smooth.
