Pirate_Felix
However, at home its totally different. Every chance my mom gets she speaks out against gays, saying they're filled with the spirit of the antichrist, caused katrina, split up pangea, created sars, bubonic plague and cancer, shot kennedy, eat babies, and invented satanism. Ok well I may have exaggerated a tad, but she sincerely believes Katrina was caused by the gays, and they're filled with the spirit of the antichrist. When she found out my brothers best friend was gay she stopped letting him go over less and less, now he can never really go over there. I think my little sister is a lesbian, and so I asked my mom what she thought of it(she doesn't know I'm gay) and she slapped me and said "how dare I speak such words in this house, where God is, homosexuality cannot, and I will not have you speak such words over your little sisters life." and I said "well, if she is, will you still love her?" my mom said "Well she isn't, and never will be so why bring it up." >.> Its really depressing living at my house, because everyone is so anti-gay. *sigh* I try to discuss it with them, but I don't want to appear too forward incase they get suspicious. I'm afraid to tell them, they have a rifle under their bed incase a robber comes in (no, they're not rednecks XD) and idk if they'd use it on me, they HATE gays. Kinda ironic. mcneilp
Can't say i've had much experience with racism really. Grew up in an area that wasn't particularly diverse racially. In my old job however, there were three dudes from Ghana who helped us on the back shift. I, and most of the shift got on good with them as they were funny as hell but there was one guy who made racist jokes behind their back. Or even if you don't believe in God, if its present at birth theres no reason to be ashamed of it. ^^ That sentence phrasing is awkward lol, don't really know how else to convey it. The only ppl who don't know are my family, and anyone my parents talk to often who I know couldn't keep a secret. The only reason why I don't tell my parents besides the fact I'm afraid for my life (which tbh I doubt they'd do it, but you never know.) is they make me pay them $100, for every time I say the 'f' word, and once I said cocaine and they threatened to kick me out of the house for being a negative influence on the family. So when I tell them they'll disown me, and all throughout my life They've never let me interact with the outside world (kinda why I cling to RuneScape so much) so when I do get kicked out, I'll have nowhere to go. I'm not even in college right now just incase they do kick me out, I'll have money for a temporary (or permanent) apartment. I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. soulless
I am Middle Eastern, ever since 9/11 I have been the end of a lot of prejudices [even though I am Christian]. Anything from sheer terror of me to disgust. I was speaking with someone from a public school about fights or whatever. They said about how all the Arabs stick together. And I was like yep, that's what we do, support one another. As soon as I said that they looked like they had seen a ghost. They were terrified and lost all interest to talk. I use to be harassed at school by this kid who use to constantly make airport jokes and say how inferior "my people" are. He would find me and my Arab friend just to insult us. It was quite a damper on the spirits and I dreaded seeing him. Till one day I had enough and reported him to the guidance counselor. Somehow he had convinced the guidance counselor that I and my other Arab friend bullied him and we were terrifying and that we said he was a dirty Palestinian and that he wanted to blow up Israel (which is funny because that kind of sounds like what he would say to us...). After explaining to my guidance counselor that I never said such things, and how it is blasphemous to yell Allah in mockery and that he was a damper to my spirit. I was threatened with receiving a suspension and half the amount of demerits needed for expulsion if I did not apologize to him for "threatening" and "belittling" him. I sat next to a moderately dark skinned man on an airplane once. He looked Middle Eastern and it was confirmed when he pulled out something with Arabic writing on it. Not to be rude but I read some of it and it was a prayer to Mary. He saw it had caught my eye and he smiled and handed it to me to read. I thanked him in Arabic with a "shookran sayyid" and passing people saw that I had something written in Arabic and I was muttering I heard "oh my God... I don't feel safe with those crazy Muslims sitting next to each other showing each other their terrorist language". My teacher for Speech was also my debate coach and she knew I like political and educational things. She asked me to give a speech that was really informative and political without being persuasive. So I picked the Israeli-Arab Conflict, illuminating on the Arab side since the Israeli side is covered amply in US media. After my researching and writing of the paper, I had been harassed to the point were I had to change my subject, being called a "Jew hater", etc. My teacher was disappointed in me and I was disappointed in myself. My paper was not anti-Judeo at all, not even anti-Zionist and focused on the political aspect but without people even hearing it I was forced to abandon it. There are certain Eastern Christian religious customs I have which are discriminated against as well. I have been called a stupid towel head for fasting. During one feast day, you hand out roses to people, especially those you have a hard time with to try to make amends with them and someone asked me what I poisoned them with and what plot "my people" were planning. A whole slue of other customs, including bowing, wishing blessings upon people (i.e. God bless your hands for preparing such a delicious meal and may He grant you a long life because of the fruits of your labors) and carrying prayers in Aramaic on me, and when some people see this they attend to [voluntarily and involuntarily] discourage me from my stupid "sand people" things. I'm a Maronite [a type of Christian], extremely anti-terrorism and anti-war and I want to be a consultant for the FBI like someone I know to translate things from Arabic to English. If people hear that, they think I'm joking because I must be automatically a Muslim and pro-terrorism. It is truly sad. I could go on for years, hahaha. Good luck with your paper. I feel sorry for ya mate. And I would have to say that I "DO" hate Israelis, not Jews but Israel as a Country. They are no better then the Germans in WW2. I guess monkey see monkey do. The people that made that Country also started out as Terrorists against the Arabs. But that is all off topic...
stonewall337
Well, from personal experience, blacks I meet seem to be treated better by the system, then whites. Most are also more lazy. However, I have a very strong defense against anyone calling me a racist. 2 of my brothers and 1 of my sisters have been adopted from Ethiopia, as well as I have one brother adopted from Bulgaria. Thus, I don't have a "bias", all that i feel is based off experience. And if someone plays the race card, I'd tell them to go to hell. They are the ones spreading racism far more then others. Amaranth_GTO
Any form of Prejudice would work. No it wouldn't. We're talking about RACISM here. ;) --------------------------- To answer your question, no, I have never experienced racism against me (that I know of). I live in a white society, and I am a white man. The only "problem" in relation to racism that I have experienced would be the rampant political-correctness that runs through society where anyone can easily be labeled a racist. I have never harbored feelings of racial superiority, but I have been labeled a racist for criticizing black American "culture" because I believe that it is degenerative and displays lack of self-respect for themselves. Still, I'd be curious to learn about a homosexual that has been discriminated on, and how he felt about everything. In that case: The city I live in, Virginia Beach is VERY VERY diverse. I am actually surprised many of my friends who are white have very few friends of different races. I actually only have 1 friend that is white, I have about 20 black friends, 6 Mexican friends, and idk 3.5 Asian friends. (long story LOL). My school is primarily black, and Asian, with Whites being the next, our city However, white is the most common, then filipino, then black, then mexican I believe. (HUGE filipino influence as we're next to the biggest naval station in the country. (I;m pretty sure it's the biggest LOL I heard it on the radio)MORE STUFF!!!!!!!Oh hey I live very close to VA beach too! *high-5* And yeah Hampton Roads is the biggest port/naval base on the east coast USA.I didn't know Pat Robinson was here though... :o that explains a lot of the homophobia. My school is a small private school, so it's not as diverse as the school you go to, but the homophobia is pretty much the same. A friend of mine came out earlier this year, and since almost all her female friends have flat-out refused to talk to her. It's really sad... And it didn't help that the WBC was in the area earlier this month

And if you would like to challenge me as someone who was educated in a public system, my family has been attending only private institutions as far as we can prove with record (which is my great great grandfather who attended an academy funded by the sultan of the ottoman empire) and I have one-on-one tutors for Arabic, writing composition, drawing, violin, guitar and fencing (and formerly Italian & Aramaic which I've sufficiently learned). I have been profusely educated and I hold the position you scoff at. Grim_
Stone may I ask exactly what private school you went to? Guest Mrmegakirby
No country is perfect, and it's wrong to base a person on their governement. That's exactly what creates racism: A country goes against another country, sometimes major things (war) sometimes a simple trade disagreement, and these things form. Tensions carry over, and this is the result. Then people start taking every action as a form of racism, and there you go, society down the drain. Adeelasim
Meh, come to Toronto Canada, most multicultural place on Earth. We are like 25% white, 25% black, 25% south Asian, and 25% east Asian :P. I completely agree with fakeitormakeit2, people are brainwashed by the media. After 9-11 there has been increased racism against Muslims, which is increased through the distorted and biased lens of the mainstream media. It's good to see that at least here no one takes it seriously. Like black jokes or white jokes, there are arab jokes i.e. "Hahahaha when are you gonna blow up the school Abdul?". No one takes them seriously :P. With regards to terrorism, Anti-terrorist (Primarily NATO) nations needs to realize that by sending their nations to war against a group of people living in caves with a couple of AK-47's is counter-productive. The aims of the terrorists are not to win - they know they can't win - but to cause as much disruption and mayhem as possible. By keeping nations focused on the terrorists, they are unable to deal with much more important issues at home. Terrorists are a nuisance, but don't wage conventional war against them. Instead, it's more effective (and WAYYY cheaper) to send spec-ops teams to infilitrate and destroy them. Back to the topic now, I still encounter racism everytime I go to the airport. Being a Muslim means I get "special" treatment -_-.
