Bow holding

Leyenda

Recommended Posts

I have noticed that the Runescape character holds a sword in its right hand, implying that he/she is right-handed, yet holds bows (which are 2h weapons and could be held in either hand) in the right as well. I am right-handed, but hold bows in my left and pull the string with my right. Are Runescape characters ambidextrous?

This is a serious issue. It could change our whole prospective on the life of our characters!

Perhaps you all do not see the magnitude of such an obscure issue. If Runescape characters are ambidextrous, then who is to say that one cannot wield a dagger in each hand, providing double the attack strength?

You make a good point., yet we have already seen progress in this field with the defender, which is half shield and half dagger!

Also notice the shoulder-pad for both verac and bandos tops are on the wrong side.

Indeed. I shall ponder this thought for a few moments.

I think holding the bow with your left and pulling with your right makes you right handed. I know that I pull with my right, you should try it.

Exactly what I said; however, the Runescape character, supposedly right-handed, pulls with its left

Lol, oops read it wrong. I don't know, maybe they are ambidextrous, they left arm is really strong, just look at that dfs/ granite shield, and think how tough it must be to lift it.

you don't need something as petty as strength to hold a dfs.

its all in the DEFENCEsssss....

It is conceivable that only characters adept in defense would be able to keep themselves safe from harm while attacking with a dagger in the offhand slot; therefore only characters with high defense would be able to attack with dual daggers.

because if jagex change it now, roughly 50k people would hold a riot, and then rage quit.

Progress waits for no one!

in rs every player is right handed (or, just taught to use the right hand for combat).

yet thay still use there left hand to pull the string.

now that you mention it thats is strange, i dont really have any reson as to why besides jagex mised that one.

Nowadays, in the Unstable Foundations tutorial, beginning players are not taught combat, but are left to their wits to defeat a goblin while Sir Vant keeps a dragon at bay. They naturally wield the sword in their right hand

My girlfriend is right handed, but shoots bows left handed, much like your rs characters.

And not only are they ambidextrous, they are magicians, if they were in classic that is. They used to hold weapons in their right hands, then when attacking, they would magically switch to the left.

Miscellaneous info...

I recall hearing that swordsmen during the medieval time-period were trained to wield swords in their right-hand because castle stairwells were designed such that the defendant could move his sword-arm freely, whereas the aggressor had his sword abilities dampened by a wall. You would have thought they would've trained their swordsmen to be ambidextrous, so that one could pose a threat defensively and offensively, however, left-handedness was also considered unorthodox and 'of the devil' at the time.

The idea of the Runescape character being ambidextrous is interesting, as I myself am ambidextrous - I write left-handed, play tennis left-handed, play hockey right-handed, and play piano both-handed, wait.. - but I think the cause of the switchup is either a not-so-obvious graphic design error, or a compromise from Jagex so that left-handers have nothing less to complain about.

Good point. RS characters can cast magic spells and lift boulders, so why not hold two daggers at once?

Nice information, and an interesting conjecture. However, a simple fix (or maybe not so simple?) could be to have the player choose whether he/she would like to be left or right-handed, and just have the sprites be mirror-images of each other

You guys, I don't think you understand the magnitude of the issue here. The issue being: Why do you care at all which hand your character uses to do different things? Good lord, a topic that talked about how the old wilderness was better would have been a better topic.
