When you shoot a bow, fi you are right handed you hold the bow in your left hand and pull the string with your right hand. And if your left handed you hold the hold the bow with you right hand and pull with your left hand. So this still implies that your character in runescape is still right handed.

how the bow is held is not determined by which hand you favor, but which eye you favor. right eye dominate people hold the bow in the left hand. and left eye dominate ppl hold it in the right. in real life. you will usually have more right eyed dominate people.

 

heck go to any major archery tournament yourself and see. be it USIAC's, National outdoors, or indoors, or heck even your local double FITA. the majority of the archers will have their bows in the right hands. call up Hoyt or Mathews and ask them for a right handed bow and see how long it will take them to get it in stock.

Having attended many FITA events myself I have to tell you that this is completely wrong. Maybe there some difference between my country and yours in terms of what hand is favored, but I have seen only a few people use right hands for bows and they were ALL OF THEM lefties.

I beg to differ. I am mostly left handed (tho I tend to hold a knife and tennis racket with my right hand, but everything else is lefty) and I find it easier to hold the bow with my left hand.

My girlfriend is right handed, but shoots bows left handed, much like your rs characters.

And not only are they ambidextrous, they are magicians, if they were in classic that is. They used to hold weapons in their right hands, then when attacking, they would magically switch to the left.

Double weilding wouldn't be over powered if they added in a huge defence negitive. Like, most of the time your defence was normal, but it you got hit, you got hit hard because you have no sheild to block. That would be sort of like it would be in real life. If you were good, most of the time you would deflect with your other blade, but if someone got past your guard, that would be able to hit you for lots of pain. Sort of a negitive weapon special, like a barrow set effect.

I recall hearing that swordsmen during the medieval time-period were trained to wield swords in their right-hand because castle stairwells were designed such that the defendant could move his sword-arm freely, whereas the aggressor had his sword abilities dampened by a wall. You would have thought they would've trained their swordsmen to be ambidextrous, so that one could pose a threat defensively and offensively, however, left-handedness was also considered unorthodox and 'of the devil' at the time.

 

The idea of the Runescape character being ambidextrous is interesting, as I myself am ambidextrous - I write left-handed, play tennis left-handed, play hockey right-handed, and play piano both-handed, wait.. - but I think the cause of the switchup is either a not-so-obvious graphic design error, or a compromise from Jagex so that left-handers have nothing less to complain about.

 

I think they just figured you hold a sword with your right hand, so you hold a bow with your right hand. They never thought about the fact that you use your string hand to pull the string rather than hold the bow.

No no no you have it all backwards. In the medieval ages, everyone was right handed. End of story. If you were left handed, you were ostracized by the community at best and punished somehow at worst. But chances are your parents wouldn't let you be left-handed. Anyways, they weren't trained to use their right hand to defend castle stairwells easily, castle stairwells were designed to be easily defended in your right hand. And even to this day, the concept of a left-handed swordsman is all but unheard of. Anyways, training ambidextrous swordsmen would be incredibly more difficult.

 

Also, I always thought of ambidextrous as someone who could do things like write easily use both hands. Also, I should hope you play piano with both hands - I type with both hands yet I am definitely right-handed.

 

As for bows, I'm under the impression that some people don't realize that the standard way to use a bow, i.e. the righthanded way, is to hold it with your left hand. You use your stronger arm to pull back the string, which can be difficult (especially with medieval longbows) and to aim.

 

Jagex probably has us hold the bow with our right hand because that was the standard hand to hold a weapon with. This may have been ignorance (which I personally doubt) or just easier to program. Maybe at the time it just wasn't worth the effort to tell the game to put weapons animation or w/e where the shield animation should be? Just a thought.

That's highly illogical. That would mean changing defenders from having a defence bonus to a negative defence bonus. Also, you'd need to have that same negative defense bonus when wielding no shield, or for that matter when wielding a bow...

Pretty damn sure it has to do with you being right handed, not right eyed....In any case though, people usually tend to favour one side of the body more then the other - typically the right side, as most people are right-handed. To be honest, what's the chances of someone being right handed and left eyed?

TBH this is one thing that deserves a graphical update. They messed around with 2Hs quite a lot, why can't they finally make BCPs/Brassies make sense?

The defender only provides a bonus to attack. It does not make you attack twice. The new dual-wielding would cause you to attack twice

tbh, I was just wondering if anyone had noticed this slight graphical error, but brought up being ambidextrous and double daggers because nobody seemed to care about the graphics themselves :)

I personally hold a bow in my right hand, and pull with my left. I am right handed. Holding with my left and pulling with my right hand doesn't feel natural. I never did archery competitively though and was always told to go with what felt the best.

Assuming linear addition, it would have a strength and stab attack of 80. Comparison: whip has 82 slash attack and strength. This means that your special, which would take 25%, would be like four whip-hits near-instantly. Do I hear knock-out?

Ah, but with double daggers, how will you defend yourself? It is natural that double daggers would provide a negative defense bonus, and possibly not increase the strength bonus from 1 dagger as well

Consider that MANY major sports list the dexterity of a person for a reason. A left handed boxer or left handed hitter in baseball changes the game plan. With that, the thread is not silly as some would quickly say.

 

However, in RS, the hand you hold a weapon is not important because the combat mechanics in the program don't care. Now, it'd be cool if one's strong side were accounted in the program and had a factor in combat but that's a bit more complicated and on the unnecessary side.

 

Still: RS players are ambidextrous, they swing both ways :D
