  1. You answered your own question. When Jagex tried to censor Jiblix it brought him into the spotlight. Because of that, he is more well known than other people who disagree with Jagex in a similar way.
  2. In 'getting rid' of the threat, they've given this guy more momentum than he could ever have wished for by himself. If you're seen to be the aggressor, you always come off second-best in PR. Counterproductive 101 right there. This whole thing is a perfect example of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect
  3. Not to sound ignorant or dumb, but if all the constants for both experiments are the same and the only variable that is different is the weapon, what does it matter? If I was on task I would still be getting the 15% using the CR that I would get using the SS. The same would be said for if I replaced a glory and row with a fury and imbued ring. Lets say you are using a SS and you are hitting 80% of the time, extra accuracy bonus can only do so much. However, if the rapier is only hitting 40% of the time then that same accuracy bonus will do much more. That is because attack bonus doesn't give the same boost in accuracy all the time. I.E. +50 attack bonus may boost from 40% accuracy to 60%, but it won't increase 80% accuracy to 100%. Its like diminshing returns. Also if it is a % bonus, then 15% strength bonus will have a bigger effect on a rapier which has higher strength than a SS. (15% of 101 str bonus is 15, where as 15% of 82 str is 12) Finally, if a rapier is 2x faster than another weapon the +8 str from a berserker ring (i) counts as +16 str. That is because the rapier uses the +8 str twice (+16) in the time the other weapon uses it once (+8).
  4. I just got 99 smithing for around 50-60mil. I did iron pl8s/mith bolts to 88 at 50-60k xp/hr and 5 gp/xp. 88-99 I did addy pl8s at 130k xp/hr and 8gp/xp. The cost of doing addy pl8s is going up however. This would be the slowest of the three skills you suggested. For crafting it would be over 100mil (assuming your going from lvl 70) doing blue d-hide bodies. Battlestaves would be best, but there is a buy limit of 100. Herby would be the fastest to get to 99, however, it would probably cost over 100mil if your not already a decent level.
  5. The most obvious and probably useful tip is to train combat with slayer and a cannon. That way you can train all combats, slayer, and get charms all at the same time. Alnother thing is to train farming right from the start since it can make you $ (herb runs) and because it is a slow skill/has time restrictions. You should also look into cannoning cave crawlers after you train your effigy skills to 97+. I don't know much about this but I know that it is fairly fast exp (mostly for people going for 200mil all skills, but it may be useful for all 99's as well). If you could get this moved to the metagame forum you would probably get more and better quality advice since thats all about getting levels the fastest. A similar post was made in there not too long ago. here
  6. So are you actually open now and selling ores/bars? or are you just looking for workers? Because I'm working on 99 smithing and would love to buy some addy bars.
  7. The mage damage boost only affects your main target when barraging/bursting multiple targets so it doesn't make a big impact. In fact, a high magic damage boost can be anoying because you have to keep switching which lobster is your main target since you kill it before the others.
  8. I think its too hard to say with any degree of certainty, if this whip attachment will be tradable or not. On one hand, this is the first weapon attachment, and it is also the first slayer drop to require a slayer level to wield. Therefore, it is hard to compare it to other slayer drops. Players have also been asking for higher leveled, untradeable content. Jagex has listened by giving the attachment an 85 attack requirement; if they really did listen to the players it should be untradeable as well. On the other hand, all other slayer drops have been tradable. Also, the 80 slayer requirement could be Jagexs way of allowing the attachment to be tradable, while still requiring the player to have the level to obtain it as a drop. I am going with my gut and saying its going to be tradable because I think the precedent set by other slayer drops is the strongest argument in this case.
  9. Does it say anywhere what the slayer req. will be to get this new whip attachment? One of its requirements is 80 slayer, but it doesnt say what the monster will have.
  10. oak doors, 10 oak planks/door for 600xp, and at 250/hr I was getting 150k/hr. You could do it much faster, but I wasn't really paying full attention. So basically most people think 99 being 2nd rarest makes sence, I guess I just expected the 2nd rarest skill to be harder than it was.
  11. But are those reason really enough to make it the second rarest 99 in game? For a fast buyable, 80mil isn't very expensive.
  12. I recently achieved 99 construction and the first thing I did was look on the highscores to see what my rank was and to congratulate the next person who got 99 after me. Then I looked around to see just how rare my skill cape really is. To my surprise 99 construction is the second rarest skill cape in game, just after runecrafting. This was surprising to me because level 70-99 only cost me about 80mil, whereas for a skill like crafting (ranked 7th rarest) 70-99 would cost 100mil (making blue d-hide bodies). And although construction has little benefit after level 75, neither does crafting. Looking through the list of 99 skills there are other interesting things- slayer, a skill I would consider very hard is ranked 8th, making crafting, smithing, and construction all rarer. Does anyone else think the ranking of some skills on the list doesnt reflect there difficulty/cost/usefulness? If so, which skills and why, and if not, why does a skill like construction have spot #2? rarity of level 99s
  13. Well as to your 99 range and mage, I am assuming your going to be chinning and barraging? If so, then you sould barrage rock lobsters for the mage which would give you charms for summoning (another good money sink). Other than that I would suggest spending a lot on training up your strength (use prayer pots for turm, extremes/ovls, etc). as for items gilded armour looks pretty cool with firecape, and you could get an ags. That and if you plan on pking, then buy 500 rune sets + all the pots, food, and runes you will need. Makes it much faster to return to wild and it looks cool in the bank.
  14. I don't understand how construction is #2 on the list. Sure its a pretty useless skill after 75, but it only costs just under 80mil to get from 75 using oak planks. Thats nothing compared to other buyables like herby and crafting. And thats not to mention how fast exp it is.
  15. Can anyone confirm if inferno adze can be gilded or not?
  16. When I solo I use the same set-up as you only with a rune c-bow, zammy vambs, bss, ee instead of eee (1 extra inv. slot since no unholy book, and not much worse than barrows gloves), I use curses (ss flash minions and leech defence/range), and I use a tort instead of yak. I bring 3 ovl's, 6 super prayers, extra tort pouch, 1 uni pouch and scrolls, 1 super restore in invintory the rest brews. My tort has a 3:1 brew:rest ratio. Right now I avg. 13 kills a trip, however when I first started I was down around 6-8. I find the key isn't so much the gear (snakeskin vs rangers, wealth vs archers, v helm vs arma) but about experience. Some of the things I learned that helped me improve my kc: ~time brews right before ovl boost (find out how many hits with c-bow before ovl boost) ~always keep you hp high to avoid having to spam brews if you get hit hard ~time how long it is before ovl wears off so you don't waste the 500 lp boost it gives (eee works well) ~find a world that has a population where you kill all minions before kree respawns (low spawn rate has the biggest impact when you use a unicorn. It allows you more healing per kill) ~be sure to dismiss yak right when its empty so that you can start using unicorn healing right away. ~time how long it is before you can use the alter again to save prayer(I just do it by kills, but I think its 10minutes) ~keep enough summoning special (20/60) for at least one heal so that if you get hit hard you can brew+unicorn (saves you from using two brews+ a restore) ~Use your unicorn to heal before a brew if you are above 40/60 special (having it at 60/60 when its natural recharge occurs lowers how much it heals/minute) ~if you have invintory space pick up ranging pot drops as they can be used in place of a super restore or to boost your range if you drink a brew right after the ovl boost occured (only use it in place of a super restore if drinking a super restore would waste prayer) ~b2p can be used which gives up to 320lp/kree (assuming all minions are killed, 4 inv spaces required) ~try to be attacking kree at all times to avoid being melee'd ~learning how to ss flash properly (not an issue for you since you use rigour. Although I have heard arguments for both rigour and curses (dps vs healing) I'm sure someone on these forums has some data to prove which one is better) If everything I listed seems like too much, just pick one thing on the list and practice it on your next trip. Once you have perfected it, add somthing else from the list. With your stats and gear you should be able to get 12 kills a trip soon enough. And as for improving your set-up, I think the best thing you could do is to get your range up. Spending 20mil on chinning would help you out a lot more than a pair of rangers would. Also note that arma can be very inconsistant, some kills I won't use any brews at all and others I will drink 3 or 4 because the kill takes 5 minutes. Just remember that because sometimes you can do everything right and get a horrible kc.
  17. Hi, I am sort of a noob in terms of the whole rare market and decided to buy a green mask. I know its no partyhat, so I was wondering if I actually made a good investment buying it at 78mil and if I am looking at any decent profit in the near future.
  18. Thanks for the spreadsheet askthedude, I'm not too worried about losing 1 bank space if I did do serums. The only thing I am worried about is making a potion that has good $/exp on paper, but turns out doesn't sell on the GE.
  19. Hi, I am lvl 134 with 62 herby which makes it hard to get into better PvM teams that require extremes/overloads. I am willing to make the $ to get my herby up, however I don't know what potions I should be making. I have heard of people making serums and brews, but didn't know if that's what I should do. I am looking for the cheapest (realisticly, not something that's going to take me 1,000 hours) method possible. Thank you in advance. P.S. If I should be using multiple different potions at different levels, please let me know
  20. DEM REVS Rofl. Anyone who pks often will know that pk'ing today is far greater money than the old wild. Not BH however, as with penalties and such that was probably the most profitable era of PvP. Today you drop a rune set, or even a no itemer with just 76K cash in his inventory and you receive millions. Old wild, you receive exactly what they lost. People complain because they don't get exactly what they want, although the random statuettes compensate for it.(As you said) I don't mind RS the way it is, as Auror said it really isn't broken. People are quite hooked on getting every last thing their opponent has that they become delusional of the money they're actually making. I would of argued for free trade back if Jagex had not released statuettes. PvP before statuettes was quite horrible loot wise. Although I don't agree with removing the trade limit because it will cause more problems than it will solve, I would be more open to a change in the pking system (although I dont see a real solution). I disagree with your ideas on pvp loots. In only wild, you were rewarded for being a good pker. I.E., if you risked the same as your opponent (which was often the case), then you made profit only if you had a KDR (for those of you who dont play COD/FPS's, kill to death ratio) above 1. Risking more than your opponent would require a better KDR to make profit, but also made it easier to get kills. In the new system it is the opposite; it hinders good pkers. I.E. you start at 100EP and go pking in edgeville. You and your opponents both risk about 500k. You kill 5 people and your EP drops to below 10%. Lets say you got an average of 700k per kill, 200k more than your opponents risk, good deal. However you are now at 10EP, and, combined with the lack of death potential (because you never died, which is the point of pking), you start getting worse and worse loot until you are getting less than 50k a kill at 0EP. This is agrivating to many pkers (including myself). The obvious solution to this is to keep your EP high when you pk. However, when people go pking, they don't want to sit around for 4 hours getting EP (seems like a chore to me), they want to pk. Oh, and did I mention that I can't do a 1+ round dm with a friend because after the first round, we will get junk loot for the rest? The other flaw with the EP system, is that it removes the consistancy behind drops, and replaces it with random drops. Like you said, you can get a VLS from somebody risking 76k, however this is very vare, and you can just as easily get 200k, or even no drop at all if you killed that person already. One final observation: the lower your combat level, the worse the loot. It makes sence except in the case of pures/range tanks. They risk much more than the average noob low level, but get junk loot (which usually doesn't pay for the gear they are wearing) Overall the new system is great for casual high level pkers, which a majority of pkers are nowadays, but for hardcore pkers and pures/range tanks, the system has many flaws. /rant
  21. My theory's behind why strength is over-rated: 1. Back in the day (before turmoil, piety, ovls/exts, etc.) Strength was king. A lot of high level players are still in that mindset that strength levels/bonus is the best and therefore drive prices up for those boosts. 2. Hitting 2 more damage is more noticeable than hitting one less 0 every 10 hits. It also has the excitement factor (hitting a 50 is far more exciting than a 48 even if you hit a few more 0's) 3. People want to justify the fact that they spent 5mil on a ring. 4. Noobs see the price of a berserker and a warrior and assume the berserker is better because of price. 5. most people train on low defence monsters where strength is better. 6. strength is still better than accuracy in edge PKing.
  22. Reading the news, huh? Find me the word "vuvuzela" on any of these front pages (or any other legitimate new source). Yahoo: Top Stories MSN: Top Stories CNN: Top Stories Time: Top Stories Not everyone clicks the sports tab and certainly NO ONE will randomly search for a word as obscure as "vuvuzela." Just because someone doesn't care about a sport, doesn't mean they're stupid. Where will it get you in life knowing who won the World Cup in 1966 (or 2010 for that matter)? Oh, it won't get you anywhere. Instead of being so condescending, why don't you help the unenlightened learn? Perhaps it's because you're an arrogant individual who thinks he's better than everyone else. Wake up, you're not. Get over yourself and learn not to be an ass to everyone you talk to. After a 5 second search on CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/meast/07/10/uae.vuvuzela.ban/index.html?iref=allsearch Ya... one of the thousand examples I can give you of the news mentioning the World Cup and Vuvuzelas. If you're implying that everyone is equal and no one is more intelligent than anyone else, you're hilariously wrong. People who don't read the news on a regular basis (searching Vuvuzela isn't reading the news) are ignorant and stupid. In the past 3 weeks i've read about 4 or 5 stories mentioning Vuvuzelas on the news. Wouldn't it be "read in the news" or "watched on the news", not "read on the news"?
  23. For me, I respect and like the company that Jagex was, but do not respect or like the company it is/has become. Just a few points I disagree with in the article Fact: Jagex is a company which has grown from a nothing into a company which makes millions of pounds sterling per year and brings entertainment to a record breaking number of people around the world. Fact: Jagex is a completely different company now compared to when it was a nothing. Daily activities are no longer overseen by Andrew Gower himself, but Mod MMG and his staff. The company has changed, and so have many peoples view of the company. Just because a company was great doesnt mean you have to respect was it has become. As they are human, they can make mistakes. The best of us do it, the worst of us do it a lot. For the amount of updates Jagex have made over the 9 years of Runescape running, the number in which mistakes have been made is a very small minority. The problem isnt that the make mistakes, its the fact that they dont admit their mistakes. Instead they defend them regardless of if they are right or wrong. Furthermore, although they have made a small number of mistakes in 9 years, the frequency of the mistakes is increasing. This is very frightening to players because it hints that the game/Jagex staff is going downhill. Jagex don't only make Runescape. If you have a problem with a Runescape update, you will usually blame Jagex, but it is not the whole of Jagex which deal with Runescape. Jagex have built various games which many people enjoy. All though Jagex does deal with games other than Runescape, Runescape is dealt with only by Jagex. Therefore if I have a problem with a Runescape update, the only company to blame is Jagex. What you said is like saying, The government isnt only in control of our national defense. So when a Russian nuke lands in my backyard I shouldnt blame the entire government. After all they have still done other things like deal with taxes, domestic affairs, foreign affairs, etc. But in fact it was the governments fault, and no one elses, that a nuke destroyed my backyard. I urge you to stop and think next time you feel like an update has been wrong or something has annoyed you in-game and think more than 'omg i hate this'. Think about who something will benefit, who will use it, who will it disadvantage, what advantages will it give me, who will enjoy it? Three words: Rock Climbing Boots
  24. I hope one of them (raptor?) turns out to be evil and we have to chose to either: 1.side with him and fight the other hero's 2.chose to kill him with help from the other hero's. I do like the idea of signature hero's- puts a name/face to all the nameless hero's that are referenced in quests all the time.
  25. Thats because high-alching, along with so many updates, are "grandfathered" into the game. Once people have something, they rarely want it taken away- despite the positive impact it will have on runescape as a whole. Even if its only been in the game for a few days people get upset (firecapes and stryke worms).
