It IS a rule, it's just not enforced

AFK'ing IS A REPORTABLE OFFENCE.

Quoted directly from the Runescape Website:

"6. What is AFK training?

AFK training is Away From Keyboard training. While you are playing on our games, you must be at the computer. Away-from-keyboard training is not allowed, and you should log out when you leave the computer."

So there it is. Walking away from your computer after you click on a fishing spot IS a reportable offence, under macroing/bots/rule 1 of Honour.

You CAN be reported for it. Now, does this mean you will be? No. Does this mean Jagex will ban you for AFK'ing? No. Does this mean anyone cares if you AFK? No.

BUT; don't go saying it's a legitimate strategy or thing to do. Of course, I sometimes do look at other tabs on my computer while I play. I don't know if that constitutes AFK, but meh.

Just wanted to get it out there: AFK'ING IS A REPORTABLE/BANNABLE OFFENCE.

I think it is said somewhere that afk while woodcutting or fishing is allowed. I think it meant bandits and spiders in stronghold.

Old news.

When msot people speak of AFKin its not truly AFKin

For the majority AFK means flicking to another tab/window and checking bk every minute or so or even jsut sitting in rs window and dealing with chat.

For example I might say I'm afking concentrated gold because i click to mine then check forums and then jsut sit and natter on msn and cc til rock collapses/im full

I have always wondered, why make a rule and then not do anything if someone is breaking it. (Not like you could ever make sure if the player is sitting at his computer or eating delicious pancakes in the kitchen)

What the heck? What is the point of this post?

I afk. It's legit. I click on a rock, and I DO STUFF. Be it cleaning my room, or doing homework. NOw I'm not actually afk'ing, because the way my room is situated I'm honestly never more than 5 feet away from my desk. And when I do my homework, its at the desk as well.

But are you (ragdazzle) saying you log out when getting a drink? Going to the bathroom? I am not flaming you, so don't think I am, but I can't think of a polite way of saying this. WHO CARES. Everyone afks. Everyone. Its a fact. Now people who afk to go to mcdonalds? Yea sure botting. But people who afk while staying at least remotely near their desk? Well even if it is a rule, it shouldn't be. Here is my reasoning:

If I am fishing, and am cleaning my room (I clean my room often) when the spot changes, I lose xp. Thus I suffer the consequences of not staying at the desk. Same iwth LRC, my inventory fills up so I stop mining. I lose xp. I suffer the consequences.

The only reason why I am raging at you ragdazzle, is because you seem like the kind of person, who would report someone for botting for not talking, reporting someone for saying noob, or reporting someone for saying "i am jagex lulz."

I consider AFK training to be something like Bandits, or splash training. Morally, I find AFK'ing wrong, but I only consider it wrong if your AFK strategy keeps you on for longer then the logout timer. AND assuming your not keeping an eye on things.

So, say, start fishing or WC'ing then walk away to grab water or something, who cares? Train at bandits while doing homework in the same room, checking up on your account every few minutes, who cares? It only gets wrong when people start doing it for hours and go watch a movie or something. (By movie I mean at like a movie theatre.)

I never said I cared, I never said I reported people for this, I never said I don't AFK.

I'm just pointing out that it IS a rule that COULD be reported by some idiot.

Saru, I myself call people noobs, I swear a decent amount, I AFK myself, etc.

In the last year, the only reports I have made were a few at green drags with blatantly obvious bots, and one against someone who was talking incessantly about "potty" stuff, whom I asked over ten time to stop as well as a clan chat mod asking him to stop as well.

And while I think that what you do for "AFK", Saru, is completely fine, I'm just letting people know the possible danger of it.

One other thing, I only report people for botting when they don't respond to public, they don't respond to trade, don't respond to private, and act in a jerky/unnatural way that a player would not.

I am not a wannabe mod.

If you report someone for AFKing, you are a sad, sad individual.

I don't know. If you report someone who appears to have been splashing the same spider for two days in a row...

To the above poster, there isn't much of a difference in my mind between botting and the specific kind of AFK training which lets you spend hours or days at a certain spot. But really, that's only Bandits and splash training.

Honestly, how do you really know that a user is AFK'ing? Perhaps that person you've seen fishing, that won't talk to you is not AFK, maybe he/she just doesn't want to talk, the same goes for WC. That person you've seen at bandits for 12 hours; maybe they really are there. Staring at the screen, watching their experience go up, and like the fisher and woodcutter, he/she just doesn't wish to talk. My point is, you never really know. Unless, as stated, it's been two days and the person is still splashing that spider. That's different.

Are you really going to watch them for 2 days straight? Just to report them for a rule no one cares about.icon_e_wink.gif

There is no rule in RS that says "you must respond to public chat". Therefore, reporting for not responding to public chat is a false report, which is a bannable offense.

The sad thing is, people like the OP report people who can only use/see quick chat. And if someone wants to play solidly for two days, how could if affect you?

If someone wants to walk away while they're logged in, how does it affect you? I don't afk myself, but really, it doesn't affect you and jagex couldn't care less.

You idiot, I actually stated that I wouldn't report anyone even if I thought they were AFK.

The only Runescape rules that really matter to me are the cheating ones. As far as "afking" goes, I often find myself doing something in my room while training some skill such as fishing or woodcutting. I see no real danger in someone getting a glass of water while their character cuts a willow tree. Sure, before afking with any real wealth worn was a tad dangerous due to randoms (especially for pures/skillers) but now it really has no reprocussions aside from potentially losing experience. Which is great! There shouldn't be any reprocussions for not logging out in order to go turn on your tv or put mess around with a set of weights.

I do however understand that you are more-less just restating the rules which Jagex have implemented and are trying to prevent people from thinking that they can't get burned by some idiot on a report-fest (I think). So, thanks for that.

As long as you are at your computer it's not afking.

And I couldn't give a [bleep] if someone AFKs, just like I don't give a [bleep] if someone bots.
