Napoleonic Hegemony

There was an interest in a hegemony game set during the Napoleonic era, just wondering if anyone would be interested in playing it? Same style as Ye Olde and Arch's moderation of the first Hegemony.

Main countries would be:

Great Britain

France

Spain

Austria-Hungary

Ottoman Empire

Prussia

Russia

Italy

Sweden (or Scandinavia depending on balancing issues)

Netherlands

Poland

Portugal

----

So yea, if you have any interest in playing, just post. This isn't the game thread though (I'll make a nice new polished one if it does start).

Oh and it probably won't start until the end of July when I have all my courses finished, this is just for brainstorming or whatever.

Great Britain, why not.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time?

Portugal.

Edit - please exercise the ability to ban ridiculous research. Ross's lawnmower thing and Archi's superships really ruined the game.

By Napoleonic Era, do you mean Colonial times? Basically, war-wise, the period just before the invention of the rifled musket?

Don't worry, I will.

And the game will start at I'm thinking somewhere between 1750-1780 (depends if we want the USA in the game or not). So anything that's been invented at that time is fair game (like rifled muskets), just keep in mind that the rifles they had there were accurate, but they were also slooooooooow as hell to load, so an army armed entirely with them would get ripped apart by regular muskets. Good for skirmishers though.

Can we use a proper map this time, with provinces...and the battles are small scale affairs instead of huge pile ups?

Yes, and I'll try but it always ends up devolving into 'group everyone together and smash the enemy'. I'll probably put in attrition or something to counter it, idk.

Yup....Weapons that had no noticible effect on the winning...they really ruined the game.

But yeah, I agree, research should just be banned altogether. Dusty should just tell us that our brilliant scientists have discovered something.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Good point again.

Can we just appoint generals instead? So we tell them that we want specific targets captured and they(Dusty) comes up with a strategy when writing the report.

Bypasses all the rubbish about 'I said my troops did X and you didn't listen'.

Generals have traits like 'Defensive' or 'Vetern', so we retain some control over the battle.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

I think I'm out for this one. There's just nothing to innovate and nothing new to bring in. It just becomes a land grab like Hegemedieval, without the fun of distinct soldiers and tactics.

The lawnmower thing was invented by Da Vinci before electricity existed.

Don't say it's ridiculous when it was actually around.

Oh, yeah, I've seen those diagrams Ross. Not really much like a lawnmower, save for its effectiveness in trimming down the field. :D

I vowed not to come back until I had drawn all the characters from the webcomics, completed the OP of my new game and stuff but this seems fun. I take Austro-Hungary please.

I know that you are trying to fit a genre but other countrys did exist in those times those times howevers aren't documented in any decent history books.

Also, force people to use Napoleonic / American Civil War tactics. Otherwise this becomes regular Hegemony.

Well, they'll sort of have to. If someone just says 'And when the battle starts I charge my infantry forward', they'd get cut to ribbons by volley fire from an undamaged enemy line.

But yeah, I agree, research should just be banned altogether. Dusty should just tell us that our brilliant scientists have discovered something.

Or you could set them to research some sort of field, and every once in a while they'll make a breakthrough and you get some tech advancement.

Hm, yeah that could work.

Traits would be like...:

Logistic Wizard

Offensive

Defensive

Winter Specialist (countries like Russia and Sweden would get a lot of these, while others would get very few)

Fortress Killer

Specialist (better with skirmishers and special troops)

and others

I think I'm out for this one. There's just nothing to innovate and nothing new to bring in. It just becomes a land grab like Hegemedieval, without the fun of distinct soldiers and tactics.

Maybe. We'll see. I'm thinking of having revolts be a bit more frequent then in any other hegemony game, so that somebody can't just conquer the world with no problems at all.

no idea. this actually looks fun, and not jsut some gloat about semi victory or something.

Why would I make a thread about an entirely different game to gloat about something unrelated? You have a very odd mind.

I am thinking of a totally different system...Since the IEG, IAG and GDP all had glaring faults...And experiances from the last game pointed out that, quite simply, a self-replenishing budget is stupid.

There are 5 'chips' you can bet on.

Blue, Red, Green, Yellow and Black.

Blue, has a 95% chance of producing a profit, but the profit will only be 5% of whatever you put into the fund.

Red, has a 79% chance of producing a profit. Initially the profit will be 1%, but if you invest for successive periods then it can increase to 20%.

Green, has an 88% chance of producing a profit. Initially the profit will be 5%, but if you invest for successive periods then it can increase to 12%.

Yellow, has a 70% chance of producing a profit. Inititally the profit will be 15% percent, but investing for successive periods will decrease it to 1%.

Black, has a 10% chance of producing a profit, but the profit from it will be 120%.

Random Number Generator decides the success rating for every period of time.

If you don't invest the money in a clear PM to the moderator, then nothing will happen to it, and it just carries over.

If the gamble fails then you lose the money you bet on it with, all of it.

Conquering other countries doesn't give you anything straight away...But research that that country would have got, generals that country would have had, become yours instead.

Armies are cheap to gather together, but take a year's worth of training to actually be deployed. (Except for Peasents).

However an army of 20,000 people will cost alot ot payroll and supply...So that after three years they will have burned through a small fortune, stopping people from having armies at each other's throats the whole time.

Also, lets assume that everyone has spies in each other's countries...so no secret armies of 100,000 appearing out of nowhere.

Same with ships.

Ships are either in port or they are on patrol somewhere. If there are no instructions given then they are in port.

Castles and other fortifications can be built and can protect key provinces on the map....but they only protect that province, armies can go around.

Sailing a ship past a fort, or an army with artillary, will damage the ship and possible sink it...but it will not stop ships from being able to try to sail past.

PS. I like the idea of fields of research, it allows customisation, without too much Archicrap.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

The great thing about Russia is its natural resources and large population. Once I get some nice modernization going, Russia should be pretty secure.
