Redneck Football Coach Fires Reporter

I've heard about this in the news recently, and I think that it's pretty ridiculous. The coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks complained about a reporter wearing a Florida Gators hat (she wore it because her hair was wet from the rain), and it ended up with her being fired from her job.

Lol. That is all.

Time for her to get a lawyer and make some good money off him and the team. That's what I'd do.

Losing their job was a bit far. But you can't expect much better when you work for a radio station that is based around one team. That's really bad judgment on the reporter's part.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

^Uh no. Just because you work at Loblaws doesn't mean you have to buy all your groceries there. Same goes for this, you can't fire someone because they wear another team's hat. She was probably not even a Gators fan, she was just covering her wet hair. I fully support whatever legal action she's going to take.

Matt: You want that eh? You want everything good for you. You want everything that's--falls off garbage can

Camera guy: Whoa, haha, are you okay dude?

Matt: You want anything funny that happens, don't you?

Camera guy: still laughing

Matt: You want the funny shit that happens here and there, you think it comes out of your [bleep]ing [wagon] pushes garbage can down, don't you? You think it's funny? It comes out of here! running towards Camera guy

Camera guy: runs away still laughing

Matt: You think the funny comes out of your mother[bleep]ing creativity? Comes out of Satan, mother[bleep]er! nn--ngh! pushes Camera guy down

Camera guy: Hoooholy [bleep]!

Matt: FUNNY ISN'T REAL! FUNNY ISN'T REAL!

Nor did he fire the reporter. William Randolph Hearst would be proud, all the same.

Not exactly a close comparison. Like rocco said, she works for the radio station whose job is just covering the team. A closer comparison would be someone who does some Republican talk show wearing clothes they got at the Democratic Convention to conduct interviews. Maybe someone should have offered the lady an umbrella, then all this would be solved.

I can smell a lawsuit coming out of this if there wasn't anything in a dress code about this...

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

OPEN WIDE HERE COMES THE HELICOPTER.

The coach didn't fire the reporter, the radio station she worked for did.

Seems like the radio station took things too far... Firing someone because of their choice of headwear is pretty stupid, but then it's also not such a good idea to wear a gators hat to a razorbacks press conference.

People there take their sports seriously. If Joe Biden had worn a John McCain pin during the election, do you think he'd be vice president?

The difference is that the only person that really saw the hat was the coach. If you see the video, nobody apart from the coach can really see the hat. The radio station didn't fire her because of the hat, but because the coach said what he did to the hat. Also, I would call the guy more than a redneck after watching the video, I would call him a lot more. It is a sport, no need to talk to a reporter like that.

How do we even know she was fired simply because of the hat? Maybe she's an awful reporter in the first place, and that was merely the last straw.

And Dan: the video is just of the coach. All the reporters are off-screen. There's no reason she can't show some respect to the coach by taking the hat off - it's hair. Maybe she did take the hat off and he answered more questions. We have no context apart from that one question and one answer.

At first I thought this was pretty controversial, but then I remembered my opinion on clothing. I walk around in Microsoft shirts, heavy metal shirts, preppy shirts, gangster shirts, etc. I'm not really affiliated with the majority of what's in my wardrobe though. It's just a means to an end. People simply take it too seriously, as if it's completely representative to your character or something. Narrow minded bugs. :)

Exactly, the reporters are off screen as they usually are in press conferences, so it was not her wearing the hat that got her fired, but him noticing. But from an outsiders standpoint, he looks like a stuck up twit. The first rule of sport is to respect the opposition, he certainly doesn't seem to if just a hat from an opposition makes him refuse questions from a reporter.

If this was football in the premier league and a manager refused a question due to the reporter wearing another teams hat, there would be uproar and he would probably be ripped to pieces. The problem with American football is people thinking it is more than it is. It's a sport.

The firing imo is just a small thing, sue the radio station, that is all she can do.

I agree with you completely. Americans take football too seriously. In fact, a major news station in my state conducted a poll, and 40% of those that participated supported the firing, and 60% were against it. Those who supported what happened are in the minority (in the poll at least), but the number is still a lot higher than it should be.

The coach was just butt hurt because his team lost to the Florida Gators recently. And yes, he is the stereotypical type that one would associate with the South... He's always like this.

I would say it is a very small minority of games which do. But often those are started not because of the game but because the rioters find it 'fun'. Alcohol and large crowds are often the problem. Although they do take it too seriously too I will admit, the managers and coaches I have never seen be unprofessional. If they have, I would be confident to say they would be fired.

Welcome to the south. Doesn't surprise me one bit. We love our football and hate our rivals that much. And its not "just a sport". Its a way of life here. You wouldn't understand, and I wouldn't expect you to understand unless you lived here.

I live in the south and I understand exactly how ridiculous people get over football. It's a good thing to be passionate about competition and pushing yourself towards glory, but when people are going to be a bunch of monkeys about it, nothing good comes from it.

Exactly this.

I'm not from the south and I know how serious the rivalries are.

I hate threads like this. At least make the title match the topic, for god's sake. As much as you'd like to think you're better than the people involved, making your title as provocative as possible... If that's what it takes to get a discussion it's not a topic worth discussing.

I live in the south. (Albeit the northern part) and I hate football just as much as some people on this topic. I like playing it of course, I like any sport. But watching it is just so boring. oh, my God.

That reporter's job, believe it or not, is to represent the radio station they work for. That radio station backs the Razorbacks 100%. There's no room left to support the Gators.
