Using other players for your own benefit

Featured Replies

I just wanted to make some form of a discussion asking you all what you think of certain RuneScape players who use other players in game for their own benefit. Specifically, the ones who make videos on YouTube, or are known in some way shape or form.

I know that a lot of these YouTube Runescapers use their viewerbase to, in a way, give them unfair advantages while playing the game. Some examples being:

Having them subscribe to a second channel of theirs to acquire YouTube Partnership on it (= $)

Trying to buy hard to get items for trade price from viewers (Divine SS, TT items, etc.)

Getting 76k and higher tricks in PVP worlds

Having subscribers run you essence to the altar so you don't have to bank

Having subscribers lose to you on purpose to gain ranks in minigames

etc.

I'm sure there's a few I have forgotten, feel free to add on.

In return, the Runescape will add them to their friend's list, obviously a most sacred place to be. (More than likely to be deleted a week later)

Now basically my question for you all is; do you feel that these people are *entitled* to acting this way because of their status on a video website? Have they earned the right to act this way? Do they deserve these special privileges? I want some opinions

Thanks for your time.

I didn't know people did that lol. I guess it's up to the subscribers... fame on youtube is absolutely as serious of business as fame in runescape, so I don't see why you your e-fans shouldn't do stuff for you.

I like that you posted this, since recently both ingame and on YT I agree that famous 'scapers are gaining huge advantages from fans hoping to please.

Its all down to the idolisation of anyone who excels at something you do, years ago I respect OldKnight and Zezima for high levels and now there is an even greater personal connection with the commentaries so it is easy to do this,

so I guess I do agree they exploit others, but to get ranked in a popular cc many are happy just like they are to 76k their way to Tassets.. etc etc. :)

Lol, seems like all these are directed at one person. (Or I guess that's just how I see it.)

COUGH*SPARC MAC*COUGH?

Well I suppose if he's guilty of them all, then sure. Plenty of known PKers ask people to die for them for BH ranks.

It's hard to view it as being a black and white issue, 'cause it's not like these people are forcing their subscribers to do stuff for them. I guess I don't really see it as being unfair. They provide us with entertainment, and some of us repay them in either views and comments ($$$) or favors.

I only watch Taco Limey and Zarfot, though.

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

There AREN'T entitled, but if someone is stupid enough to waste their time doing that for someone else, that's fine for me.

People do what people pleases, there is no law against it.

They do what they want. Shut up.

people selling ranks in merch clanchats is what I'm most upset about.

(seen threads of people doing this on a rwt-site)

Meh. If people are willing to do it, then whatever. If you're that eager to please someone famous in-game, then go for it.

I've seen people selling ranks in their clan chat to anyone who sold them an item with a high street price.

If people are willing to sell things for trade price, help out those players, etc etc, theres nothing stopping them.

Its not as if they are being FORCED to sell things at trade price, they obviously want to.

O.O

I dont think sparc does much of that. I mean, he doesnt turn down a free 76k, and I know it was common practice to get some 76ks after dying and gaining a substantial amount of dp before they nerfed 76king. I haven't seen him actually ask his subscribers for stuff like that tho.

He does, there's videos everywhere. His friends send me messages complaining about how much of a "user" he is, even with friends, but they obey because of who he is. However this thread is not about any specific player, it was merely to gather people's personal opinions about this practice

I feel like I'm cheating the unwitting masses every time I use the Grand Exchange.

Expecting a good life because you're a good person is like expecting a bull not to charge because you're a vegetarian.

They put in a lot of effort to make the videos, which is why I think they have a right to use their subscribers like that. It's not like they're forcing them.

Anyone at Manchester University PM me

If people want to literally worship someone in Runescape by selling them hard to get items etc, that's up to them and their own demise, because sooner or later the person they look up to is going to let them down. I myself have looked up to a few famous people, to find out later on they're really cruel in-game. They are now on my ignore list permanently :)

Also like others have said, youtube fame is really overrated. Like today, I noticed some featured video and it was someone talking complete rubbish about their day, and it had 1M views? Honestly, what has this world come to. We're so obsessed with fame and things like facebook, twitter, thisser and thatter, I think it's a bit too much.

Anyways.. each to their own.

I know alot of the most famous summoning tanks on youtube will receive high amounts of lootsharing because of high hitting vids (people happily give 2k barrages for a slot on friends list).

Check it out, huge amount of effort has gone into this massive mod!
