September 21, 201015 yr It works well with a dark bow. Run, shoot, run shoot, :) Don't even have to freeze them. O.O
September 21, 201015 yr Too much effort :PYeah I used to not even bother with kiting in other games. Then I finally got a few good methods down so I got into it. I doubt I'd ever kite in RS though. But that's because I don't do PvP and I haven't done any boss hunting either  It seems like kiting would be more annoying to do in RS than in other games, but idk. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
September 22, 201015 yr Kiting is used often by good hybrids, so it is used, same with Saradomin. Elsewhere... too much effort
September 22, 201015 yr People don't bother with the loads of extra clicking. Only my prediction though...
September 22, 201015 yr Well, its only realistically useful in PVP, and SOME boss fights which you cant safespot but can run back and forth, so even if everyone did kite, it has limited use. Plus its hard to do because the enemy boxes lie to you and it becomes an extra pain in the ass if your a low combat level and you have to right click [developmentally delayed]edly. O.O
September 23, 201015 yr I kite all the time on my skiller, especially with melee mobs in dungeoneering.. do musical chairs around obstacles :P Being a Level 3 - Skillers Guide by Dirtybbqchip
September 24, 201015 yr It's been used for a while to melee the TzHaar-Kets in the fight caves. Mage pray, and time it just as they mage you, and you can melee them without getting meleed. Oh Toad beat me to it. Fitting, since he taught me how.
September 25, 201015 yr Gets old so I never bother with it, same with prayer flashing. In other games like WOW, I just prefer hit and run guerrilla tactics in PVP to kiting. Exclusive Legacy Mode Player He just successfully trolled you with "courtesy" and managed to get a reaction out of you. Lol
September 25, 201015 yr I use the same tactics at zamorak boss as i do with sara boss with amazing results solo. Can easily do 10-15 on a solotrip. As for pvp, it can be useful but only when you freeze your opponent Click here for my guide on how to solo the D Kings
September 25, 201015 yr is there a similar term to 'kiting' for running under a frozen opponent to prevent them from hitting? or is this still referred to as kiting?
April 18, 201115 yr Tl;dr. Just replying to the original post. Kiting is useful in a lot of situations. Such as hybriding, SGW, and the fight caves. However, in PvP, it poses a problem. You see, edgevill PKers are very delicate creatures. They will whine and put on protection prayers if you make the fight anything other then: Eat... attack... shark-brew, restore, re-pot... attack... eat... prayer pot... attack... eat... out of food... tele... And i believe the reason kiting didn't catch on in edge PKing in the first place was because it took too much effort, and if you make a timing mistake and your godsword(Or what ever weapon) swing comes late, you feel like you just wasted SO much time. And just resort to fighting normally for fear of not being able to "out DPS" your opponent(Or at least that's how my brain works  ). However, in hybrid fights, things are already so fast paced that people won't even bother/have time to whine if they don't like something you're doing. And plus, protection prayers are fairly easy to get around in hybrid fights if you're good. Hexiled Razz. Player since March 8th, 2005.
April 19, 201115 yr is there a similar term to 'kiting' for running under a frozen opponent to prevent them from hitting? or is this still referred to as kiting? I don't think that's kiting; though there's not really a proper name for that. ~~~The Harpy List~~~Harpy Facts~~~It's Super Effective~~~The Beginning~~~Harpy Therapy Center~~~Alg~~~Jedi Harpy~~~Rohirrim~~~Attenuation~~~
April 19, 201115 yr i used kiting in monkey maddness, used pray mage and attacked with my whip and ran away before it would melee me.it worked perfectly. outside of pvp, it has a good use for low levels fighting some bosses. I'm a Brony and proud of it!
April 19, 201115 yr For PvP it works best when you can trap an opponent around rocks. What you do is run away and trap them behind the rock, wait until your attack is ready again, and hit in. This can really advantage you in a Rapier vs Maul battle. Not using it in PvP is like not using protect prayers because your opponent whines about it. They'll whine about it, but if it helps me out, I'm gonna do it. Kiting well / keeping distance is actually a crucial part to tribriding well. It's also how good magers can beat rangers (utilizing the 1 more additional spacing magic has against ranged). What I do when I'm maging and face a ranger is I get the first barrage off, switch to range, get a hit in, walk back 10 steps, and kite with mage. It works very very well. I use the same basic format when maging, except I use the "rolling barrage" technique -- which is to set one barrage spell to auto, and manually cast a second one. Each time I auto cast the first barrage (usually Ice), I immediately manually click the second barrage (blood, shadow). In effect, it means I've always got a spell rolling out against my target(s) at all times.
April 19, 201115 yr By "why isn't it used," do you mean "why doesn't everyone else use it?" :P Most people aren't very smart or creative (as far as PvP goes, at least)... I used to kite in PvP all the time when I PK'd... ranging around stumps in the wild against meleers was always fun... I'd shoot them 4-5 times before they'd hit me once :D Also, luring people around trees w/ mage and then freezing them at key locations was great back when safespotting them existed. Most players just don't click enough to keep up with you... it makes trapping people behind wilderness terrain very easy for escaping also. Kiting just seems like another aspect of RS that people eventually figure out on their own. Takes even more time/creativity to think of situations to generalize kiting to :D
April 20, 201115 yr Tough to properly kite in a game without easy to pull off snares and stuff :P. If people could root in any armor reliably and such, I'm sure we'd see more of it. El Psy Congroo.
April 22, 201115 yr I kite a lot in Daemonheim. If a monster has faster attack speed than me, I step behind an obstacle after I'm done attacking, and come back when I'm ready to attack again. This way we both trade the same amount of hits, covering a disadvantage of slow attack speed. This can even work against long range attacking foes, but it's more of a hassle to lure them by a suitable obstacle. In the right circumstances, you can even attack them without them being able to retaliate before you jump behind cover. However, this may sacrifice some speed, as you have to wait for them to lose aggro, so you can hop in without them hitting back instantly. They seem to lose aggro at the same speed of a 2h's attack, so you may not have to go any slower if you time it right. I still need to test this more. Kiting with long range attacks like magic works somewhat without needing cover. By simply running back and forth like a Zilyana solo "hit and run" you can avoid damage, or not get hit altogether. Obviously, this doesn't work on enemy rangers or mages, and is harder with more targets. On the surface, usually you don't care much about your health and kiting is just a waste of time. On the other hand, it certainly seems more useful in dungeoneering due to the imperative lifepoint preservation. You can't just pull a lobster or shark from your bottomless supply in the demon halls, so kiting really has more of a purpose.
