Flaming

It not only happens here, it happens everywhere! RSForums, opinion related subjects, debates, sport clubs and (sorry) politics.

But isn't the topic discussing why TIPIT has gone more flamy rather than discussing flaming in general? >.>

You got to admit though, Tip.it forums has gone from a serene place to discuss into flame city.

I blame the growing numbers of intelligent and snobby users. But that's just my opinion.

Concise summary: If only people would do what I tell them then I wouldn't have to flame them.

Not going to happen keep venting.

Except the 4m/hr is actually tested / backed by evidence :P

Yep its scientific fact just like:

You're guaranteed dharok helm every 2.5 hours at barrows.

Every 12 hours you get a visage from frost dragons or a godsword from godwars.

4mil/hr is guaranteed to think otherwise would be ignorant.

It not only happens here, it happens everywhere! RSForums, opinion related subjects, debates, sport clubs and (sorry) politics.

I like to read the comments posted below serious news articles at cnn.com.

They are utter garbage.

Nothing quite like reading an article on the chilean miners and then the comment at the bottom is: "Obama the socialist is paying for the rescue! $%^@ obama!"

I still can't understand how ignorant the mods have to be to not consider your posts not to be personal attacks/flaming and not delete them because of that. In nowhere in that post did you represent any legit information or anything that would have any discussion value, forget about actually discussing anything.

By the way, frost dragons are currently(and the prices are quite low right now) 3.2m an hour GUARANTEED.

Some people, such as Gi, don't understand averages. Many things are based on averages, such as DPS. If we went only by GUARANTEED profit, then Frosties would always win, followed by DKS. However, since averages ARE part of the game, after thousand of Dag king kills, you can calculate the AVERAGE gp/hr. In fact, its GUARANTEED at least 1m gp/hr at DKS, just from bones/hides.

Since you claim to be effective, instead of efficient, I wonder how you can claim everyone else is full of cow manure, when proof positive has been posted numerous times of the profit/hr AVERAGE and GUARANTEED at different monsters, depending on gear/stats/proficiency, and adjusted for current GE prices. (DKS average ranges from around 4-4.5m).

I could post dozens of pics for DKS, for example, with the ending profit. Sometimes the profit is 1m gp/hr, other times its upwards of 10m. But, due to AVERAGES, I can figure out my AVERAGE profit/hr. Its really basic math.

To so blatantly disregard averages would be tantamount to claiming str amulet is > fury for melee damage, since it increases your max hit. But you would then be ignoring DPS.

Sure, CLS can 4hit graador, I've done it. But I've also been outhit, when using a whip, by another whipper with 87 strength. But does that mean he will consistently beat me out? Hell no.

Play your own game, let them play their the way they want to.

You're one to talk about that.

If I learn something from runescape players, such as you, am I allowed to use that advice to possibly help other people here?

In my opinion, I am.

No, you may not use your knowledge to help others.

Albiet this thread being like a week or two old, I think it deserves a bump.

There's interesting points brought up in this thread; http://forum.tip.it/topic/277803-u-mad/

How accepted is 'Trolling' in the online community? Should trolling be banned, or be a mutable offense, or should trolling be socially acceptable? Where do we draw the line? Intelligent trolling requires a very small manipulation in wording to win an argument, not pretending to be stupid, or rich. There are many ways to be annoying in RuneScape, without actually breaking any of the JaGex rules.

All too often people cry "U mad?" and "It's only a game/pixels". Hmm...

Edit - Good examples would be the RSOF and RSC.

I think most flaming these days comes from people who post badly thought out suggestions, ideas or debates.

They get politely questioned on a point then refuse to answer it and start flaming anyone who mentions it, despite not being able to contradict with any reasonable argument or evidence.

Jagex approves trolls, they've even made Trollheim for us. We draw circle lines around the mountain. Intelligent trolling? Wat is dat human? U mad?

If I said this in RS, should I be banned?

Muted?

I don't think so, no matter how annoying I am.

It just can't be done.

It's only a game, afterall. If you don't want to hear me, you have your ignore list. You don't have to hear me.

Y u so srs? U mad?

I think it's more of an issue of those people who refuse to listen to criticism. Quite a few guides/suggestions I've seen had people simply "ragequitting" their guides just because some people decided to be helpful and give criticism as an attempt for improvement.

People really need to be smarter with their responses and such... baseless arguments and pointless flaming are really what draws debates down.

Yup and the thing is its often thoose who are polite and try to help that get the brunt of it. Despite doing nothing wrong.

I think a good example would be the hidden updates sticky. I frequent there a lot and without evidence post from my own memory and experience.

In the same way pretty much every post on that thread never has evidence posted with it and has to be verified by others.

Yet because I happen to have a good memory and thus post often fairly regularly I get attacked as a know it all and posting bs without proof just because someone gets up the ass I say I recall something they think is new and hidden being in patch notes or w/e a few months ago.

NB: Not saying I'm totaly perfect cause I do bite back

Precisely. I'd also extend that to those who don't like to be questioned or justify their points.

Then they just get ridiculous and call in their girly mates as they can't handle what they've started. Lot of that going on, on here lately.

There's criticism and then there's "HURRR HURRR YOUR METHODOLOGY IS CLEARLY INFERIOR AND THIS IS WHY". That gets my hackles up every time and frequently they're posts that aren't offensive enough to report. I will freely admit that I am not the sort of person to turn the other cheek.

Proof please. Don't confuse disagreeing or asking for points as being wrong.

Unless you're on a community to assume you're going to be right 100% of the time, being wrong is bound to happen. So really, I don't see what you're proving by mentioning that unless you're just trying to troll the other user...which is kind of the point of this whole topic. You're a really smart guy and you're often right, but it's how you present your opinion that matters the most. Everyone here has a very absolute frame of mind, and some people don't like that because it's unwelcoming.

I think the reason for the flaming is because the people that use this forum are of a higher level of intelligence. Because of this we have a lot more cynics in the crowd who are unwilling to agree with any opinion until that opinion provides sufficient evidence. We like to argue before reaching a consensus on the matter. It's just our way of making sure we don't accept invalid opinions that could possibly make us dumber.

Exact opposite, Jr's been trolling a number of threads lately.

Attempting to isn't the same thing as actually doing so. There is a lack of 'intelligent trolling' on these boards. Back in my day, trolling meant something.

What's the difference between Trolling and Flaming, anyway? I'm sure there's a grey spot somewhere

There's a difference between discussion/debate and flaming.

Asking for proper logic/evidence/proof and debating evidence back and forth isn't flaming.

Flaming is leaping to insults and derogatory terms for no real reason.

And too above:

Trolling usually means posting topics or replies that are purposefully stupid, idiotic or in other ways conflict inciting.

Flaming is getting aggressive and rude towards people on any given thread simply because they disagree with your view. And more often than not is used in place of justifying your position.

On Topic; There are very fine lines between Flaming, Trolling and being a general idiot. I think albeit TIF has gotten more controversial topics, there are more intelligent discussions about things too. I can easily find a topic a few years ago that is basically an OP saying something stupid and people blindly agreeing with the OP or flaming him like hell. I dunno, the Questionnaires sub-forum really makes General Discussion less noob-friendly.

Also, I'd like to point out that individual relationships with a user can intrigue flaming too, the prime example being what was said a few posts above (Stonewall and Jrhairychest).

If people can remove "personal hate" out of arguments, then we would have a lot less flaming.

I agree. I find it ironic or strange that on the very topic adressing flaming and trolling we have the startings of flaming and trolling...

other than that I try not get personally angered no matter what is being talked about, other than any topic undo posts... Those I normally troll with a fury sent from heaven
