I think it's stupid to complain about this. It doesn't actually make it any harder to understand, anyone with two brain cells to rub together can work out what someone is saying.

I don't mind it in MSN and stuff, but on forums it just annoying. There is no need to rush.

i dont use capitalization, or some punctuation. i also am not all that great of a speller, so some of my words come out not quite right  . also i dont know how to end a sentence when i use a smiley, do i put a period after it, or before it?

Anyone with 2 brain cells would realise that they don't need to type like a three year old.

Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time.

I just end the sentance with the smiley. I think it'd be technically correct to put the period after the emotion - but it would kind of be subjective since it would depend on why you are using said emotion in the first place.

You know what's really worse though? They probably waste more time explaining what the words are to normal people than the time they 'save'

most ppl have the sense though to work out wot they are trying to say, i use the shortcut in the game because if u type too much in it will get cut off then u will have to type it all over again which is quite infuriating :(. as a result of that it has turned out to be a habbit of mine, plus i bet all u people who say bout being good typers dont even use the right fingers on the right keys (i personally use the rite fingers for the rite keys) so its unfair for u to cast up at others when u urselves have bad habbits.

Seriously, where are these people whom talk like that? Because I've never ever seen them, and I've been active on all kinds of chatrooms and using IM programs for over 5 years (not saying that's a lot, but in that time you'd think you would see most things.) Sure some people might have their IM nicks written in that way, but I've never seen anyone actually typing like that in a convo. I find that strange, because there's always at least 10 people who complain about it everytime a thread like this is posted.

People use to talk like this all the time on the good old days of battle.net

Starcraft ftw.

You also see it alot on counter-strike from people trying to annoy you, but I think it is slowly dying out.

At the least, people won't be bothering the ones who are reading our messages.

Its called an ".com/9ayfx]interrobang" and it's a real punctuation ^_^

Leave it to Merc to know a little bit more than anyone else about whatever the subject is... you've taught me something new once again. :P

I think last night I decided on the one I hate the most.

"cu" meaning "see you." They don't even space the c and the u out so the whole time I'm think "cu?" what is "cu?" and by the time it hits me and I'm really angry at the annoying abbreviation.

But why do they have to not type like a three year old?

@MPC: Technically the end of that email should've been "ttyl man" but whatever. If he wants to use the IM shorthand instead of the full acronym whatever :P

Hahaha I just noticed that!!! Wow that is truley pathetic on his part. I wouldn't hold it over him though, neither would you if you knew him. :P

Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so.

Because its frustrating for people to read. Especially when abbreviations are used that not everyone necessarily understands (see my previous post about the use of the phrase "cu.").

I used to type full sentences (eg. start with a Capital letter, end with punctuation (period or otherwise)) even on IM networks and on IRC. I grew out of that slowly, which might be for the worst. :(

I do still try and write normally (well, using Capitalization and Punctuation is normal to me, anyway) when I'm on forums, newsgroups and the like, and I haven't had people complain about my style of writing, so I'm assuming I'm doing alright. :)

I usually type without capitalization (unless it's a proper noun) on IM services and I only try to get punctuation in if they could confuse the word for something else, like they're, their, and there.

I'm less concerned with my grammar on IM with my friends because its a private conversation between me and my mate, so I know what you mean.

But on a public forum where everyone reads - I try to use the best grammar possible.

If it's something like a forum where they have time to think it through and type it out then I think that if it's really something worth reading then it's worth typing right.

This is the way the world ends. Look at this [bleep]ing shit we're in man. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. And with a whimper, I'm splitting, Jack.

kk. Seriously, 'kk' is the root of all my sorrows.

It's meant to be an 'abbreviated version of ok'...how?! Just move your damn finger up and right by 0.2cm and press O, because if you get it wrong and overtype you'll be seen as a racist! KK, urgh!! Can't stand it!!

Same here, I don't like 'kk'. When someone writes that to me, it just seems like they are annoyed at me even though they are not. It's like they're saying 'ok! ok!! Jesus Christ, chill!!'

I don't like when people abbreviate words such as u, r, y etc., or when they speak in leet language, but I'm ok when people abbreviate longer phrases, such as brb, ttyl, irl, imo etc.

:? Im not sure why people find it so annoying, and why they think its soo hard to read. I can admit that if the grammer is really screwed up, and the spelling is compleatly messy, i cant understand it myself. But seeing as im a really bad speller myself, i can understand when most people talk like that.

As to those saying "we must respect the english language" and waht not. Languages change and evolve, they have as long as there has been languages. If people with to branch off, and speak it diffrently, thats their wish. I know when i acutly speak, ive intergrated some internet abreviations into my speach. Some of you may think "ohh he is lazy, and stupid". But im not. I did it so that i can speak faster, and make my language flow better then speaking straight english (that is tought in schools). I really dont see why we get taught our languages in school, they just end up evolving, and changing. Why not accept the change and learn to speak with which may seem to be "Not gramaticly correct" when in that form of the language, it is.

Change is good

Would you rather someone work for you who had good grammar and spelling or someone with horrid grammar and spelling? In my opinion all the languages are established and are not to be screwed with ;)

DNT UNDASTAND WAT U MEAN M8

Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

I used to talk like that. Horrible days. So many flamings. Oh wait the getting flammed part was just last week. At least I stopped typing like a dumb @$$

But you see that is a diffrent situtation. This is just everyday on the internet that people are talking like that, two diffrent times that two languages should be used.

Another more recent thing that's getting on my nerves is the way people have started to put a space between the exclamation/question mark and the word - like this, "where are you ?!". And I don't get why people do this? Because it's usually the same people who wryt leik dis, and they type like that to save time, right? Then why the hell would they spend extra time on such a minor and useless thing as putting an extra space? I just don't get it. :P

Ah, I do that, sometimes. It draws emphasis to the urgency of the situation, and highlights that it's a ?! - you want an answer now. It's not just a question mark and it's not just an exclamation point. It works if you're asking something urgently... or angrily. :P :D

He doesn't mean the "?!" itself, but the fact that it's preceeded by a space.. so "hello ?!" instead of "hello?!".

At least that's what I got from it..

Also, the whole "kk" thing I don't think is that bad, it's a more final/definite version of "k". Like a salute in the military. :P

when ever i see "cu" i think they forgot a letter  . yes, i am immature :D
