runesmithie
Seriously, it's a huge problem :( I used to talk like it a bit back in the day (and around the start of these boards I was seen to use 'u' once in a while), but I grew out of it. Is there really ANY legitimate reason to use shortcuts? Most of them would take me more time to type out than the real word since I'm so conditioned. :P I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam. Guest GhostRanger
Plus, you are more proud of yourself when you can type faster than someone using shortcuts when you don't. :P

runesmithie
You know what's really worse though? They probably waste more time explaining what the words are to normal people than the time they 'save' I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam. zonda
I do when making a point about something, or exagerating a situation. I can see why it's annoying. It's one thing if it is like: "so like u wanna go 2 the store?" but... "50 y0uz lyk3 w4nn4 G() tE\/\/ d4 stArW!!!!11!?!?" *sigh* ...

jak722
I use them sometimes... But I do watch my punctuations most of the time. :D The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak. R33c3
People are just lazy. Which, is quite embarrasing since the amount of effort it takes to type a word like "are" is surprisingly minimal.
Mercifull
Depends who I'm talking to. I tend to get very lazy on irc because I need to type so fast. So words end up getting jumbled about full of typos and grammatical errors. So long as I can read it then i dont think its worth getting knickers in a twist over it. "so u wanna got o the stoer" Thats probably how it would come out in irc. But everyone knows it means "So, do you want to go to the store?" ____
In IM's I can put up with the occasional typo and shorthand. But when it comes to forums and there are typo's, shorthand and the like I really have to wonder 'why?'. There is no sudden rush to post the message since it isn't exactly real-time. And for the most part I take the posts of people who take the effort to make sure their post is readable more seriously than someone who hasn't. *shrug* @rocketman089: That too. @MPC: Technically the end of that email should've been "ttyl man" but whatever. If he wants to use the IM shorthand instead of the full acronym whatever :P

slicer92
Actually Im proud to have decent grammar.I have pretty much perfect spelling.I might miss a punctuation or two but at least people know what Im saying.Im pretty sure most people use 'leet speak' just because its a trend especially for middle/high schooler's who use Aim. Azvareth
"50 y0uz lyk3 w4nn4 G() tE\/\/ d4 stArW!!!!11!?!?" Seriously, where are these people whom talk like that? Because I've never ever seen them, and I've been active on all kinds of chatrooms and using IM programs for over 5 years (not saying that's a lot, but in that time you'd think you would see most things.) Sure some people might have their IM nicks written in that way, but I've never seen anyone actually typing like that in a convo. I find that strange, because there's always at least 10 people who complain about it everytime a thread like this is posted. My "pet peeve" (hey, now I finally know what that term means) is definitely people who get "your", "where/were" and "they're/there/their" wrong. I think it says more about the person if they go, "your lying, your dad where their, I saw him" than if they went, "u goin out 2night??". It's not that hard. I know some people who get it wrong are/could be dyslectic, but the way it looks now, it seems every second person on the internet suffer from dyslexia. Another more recent thing that's getting on my nerves is the way people have started to put a space between the exclamation/question mark and the word - like this, "where are you ?!". And I don't get why people do this? Because it's usually the same people who wryt leik dis, and they type like that to save time, right? Then why the hell would they spend extra time on such a minor and useless thing as putting an extra space? I just don't get it. :P
Hannibal
I used to type full sentences (eg. start with a Capital letter, end with punctuation (period or otherwise)) even on IM networks and on IRC. I grew out of that slowly, which might be for the worst. :( I do still try and write normally (well, using Capitalization and Punctuation is normal to me, anyway) when I'm on forums, newsgroups and the like, and I haven't had people complain about my style of writing, so I'm assuming I'm doing alright. :)
Necromagus
Meh, I try to use correct grammar/spelling wherever I type, it's simply good manners. If someone would feel the need to talk to me like that I guess most of the time I'd just ignore them... Bubsa
kk. Seriously, 'kk' is the root of all my sorrows. It's meant to be an 'abbreviated version of ok'...how?! Just move your damn finger up and right by 0.2cm and press O, because if you get it wrong and overtype you'll be seen as a racist! KK, urgh!! Can't stand it!!
