How to spend your XP weekend

Recommended Posts

Bonus XP weekend is 1 week away, although affectionately dubbed No-Lifing weekend and what could be perceived as a grind-a-thon, ultimately saving time, effort & money is the goal.

People may argue - it's a game I play it for fun, if i'm not having fun I don't play it. Having said that this particular game requires an awful lot of time & effort to unlock the majorty if content, features & abilities available to you. It also requires doing things that may not be to your liking, to be able to access content that IS to your liking. Unfortunately due to game design certain skills are still broken & it's best to "get things out of the way" if you can, besides a little bit of mental motivation or self discipline can only help in your development as a person right? :P

Anyway breaking down skills for bonus XP weekend.

Combat

Melee - This is essentially free and can be afk'd if need be, there is absolutely no reason to train this specifically.

Ranged - Not a bad option if you are a pure or something as you get more XP per chin or cannonball depending how you are training.

Prayer - lol

Magic - Not a bad option to save some cash but still be able to use a fast method (don't alc or superheat lol)

Grindables/Slow XP

Agility/Firemaking/Mining - All 3 can be trained at a 2x rate with horn if you dislike them in the first place, however if you dislike BA as well, these aren't bad choices.

Fishing - Only if you suck it up and do barbarian fishing, other fishing methods are afk and saving an hour of multitasking doesn't seem worth it.

Woodcutting - If you hate this skill you should do Ivy, you can play an entirely different game and still get close to max xp rate lol - Don't do this on BXPW.

Runecrafting - Should be done at ZMI if you have no money for buyables, or is quite low as a skill. It's generally accepted that Runecrafting is quite tedious, so knocking off a few levels for the benefits they may give (70 Surgebox in DG). However if you do receive effigies the lamps should generally be spent on this or agility making it slightly pointless to grind out the skill, unless it's for an immediate reward.

Buyables/Fast XP

Herblore - An important, expensive buyable that the majority who cannot make overloads, should be doing. However if you have the ability to already make overloads easily 93/94-96, you should perhaps not do it since you will get 99 eventually from making ext/ovl's in the future.

Construction - A great buyable to do due to the tedium of clicking involved & not getting random events. Although this is a fast skill as it is, the clicking & costs involved is a major put off for some & should be considered.

Crafting/Smithing - A moderately expensive skill at times, this is another fast bank skill which is a lot less tedious than it's construction counterpart. Should only really be done if you already have your desired Construction level

Hunter/Thieving - Both moderately tedious skills being that they can't be multitasked well and require a lot of attention & clicking. Both should be only be considered IF you have no buyables left to do.

Fletching/Cooking - Both are considered fast, easy buyables and probably should not be done on BXPW. They also serve no real purpose to rush to a high level in.

Farming - If done correctly you may save several DAYS of doing the skill & quite a bit on the gp/xp of the seeds. Also for the time it takes to do it, this goes great in partnership of doing other skills as well. However unless you dislike routine, rushing farming isn't necessarily a good thing, unless you want the immediate rewards of having a high skill (Effigy/Dungeoneering)

Misc

Dungeoneering - If you are 100+ and don't care much for tokens this is a great skill to do if you have a great, permanent team arranged for it.

Slayer - Last resort, if you honestly don't care about BXP and maximizing time or money saved, or are a maxed player (or as maxed as you care for) then you should perhaps be doing this & making the most of quiet spots :P

Summoning - No brainer, if you have charms use them once your multiplier is down to 1.1x.

At the end of the day, how tedious or how much effort a skill takes is entirely individual, however categorically, certain skills suck for a reason & utilising your time to ultimately spend less time doing them is generally a big consideration at least to those who have goals of maxing or need X level to attain it's reward.

Oh & don't forget to have FUN on BXPW... LOL

what is the cheapest way to train herblore and smithing?

Depends on what your herblore is - but there has been at least one or two topics created every day asking people what they should do to level herblore.

Smithing - probably crafting whatever your highest metal item is

Although, superheating gold ores would be nice - bonus mage and smithing exp.

Don't smelt or superheat gold ore on BXPW. The bonus from the gauntlets does not stack with the multiplier.

As for what's cheapest or best for you, check out grimy's spreadsheets or the RS wiki gp/xp tables and don't forget to take into consideration how slow/fast the xp rate is.

I figured most people would have their things sorted however this is a half-helpful, half-satirical post on just why BXPW is daft & if you don't make the most of it then you are an idiot. You either have to grind out skills you don't enjoy in order to save yourself some time/money/effort, or don't utilise the time properly. Whether you actively or passively participate, ultimately everyone is an idiot.

Smithing as awhole for bxpw = fail.

Gold smith gaunts don;t work so gold smelting = same/less than normal.

Smithing product items you should be using sc hamemrs normally, which don;t work so again u get less xp than u can outside bxpw.

Which leaves other smelting, which is sucky xp.

There are hoardes of ways to train magic while doing other skills, magic shouldn't be done on the weekend. Everyone should have their ighest trees/fruit trees/calquat planted so they can take a few minutes to get a lot of farming xp right at the beginning.

I was hoping this might clear some things up for me. I'm still at a loss for what to do once that counter hits 2.7x Exp on the 11th. I've been thinking it over (and over and over and over) and i cannot make up my mind about what i should be doing. I have Adamant Bars and Blue Dragon Leathers enough for Level 95 in both Smithing and Crafting. The way i calculated it i would save about 14m spending equall amount of time on both these skills come bxp weekend. But then then the attractivenes of some easy RC exp distracts me. The way i calculated i can easily get 800k exp or so. So now my thinking starts from square one. I don't hate any of the 3 abovementioned skills it's really just a matter of time saved vs. money saved and i don't know which of the two i find more appealing. I realise that the hours i save doing RC on bxp weekend can be used to make up for the money i will lose (or rather, not save) with Crafting and Smithing if i do decide to go with RC. But then again If i save the 14m, thats 7 or 8 hours of money making time saved which could be spent doing RC. So this really does level out either of the two options.

Anyway, if anyone doesn't mind giving me some advice, id be greatful.

At your stats, Nox, the following:

Have 5 magic trees, 6 palm trees, a calquat and as many spirit trees as you can planted. Upon logging in, check-health on all of them to get ~400k farming xp.

Bank and take out your fishing gear - granite lobsters (3+summon one), fishing urns (15), a summoning potion, feathers/knife, barbarian rod - you're going powerfishing (games neck to barbarian assault). You should be getting 200k xp/hr in the first hour or so. Do this for ~3 hours.

You can also ZMI or even better, combine the two.

Yeah i've already got the farming sorted, although i haven't got any Spirit Trees (sadface). I was thinking about Fishing too (Fremmy Elite would help me a great deal). I guess i should stick to this actually.

Thanks for the advice.

I have around 60M in cash right now, and technically if i spent it all during bxp weekend i could get like 90+ herb, or at least something really high. Is it worth it if you don't really care for boss hunting/just don't do it? What else would a high herb allow you to do...?

About how many mahogany tables could I make per hour, assuming no mousekeys and a few missclicks every so often? And thanks for this post, just remembered I could do construction and finally do those effigies I've stored up (well few more parts myself at least).

I only got herb up for slaying, and will bump it to 91 on BXW just because I can, I'm probably not gonna use it, but it is still good for effies and if I do get into boss hunting.

Definately suggest herblore, helps a bunch on slaying, spec restores with claws, extremes super antifires... It's all good, in fact they're so good for me, that I stopped slaying for now, because I don't have spec restores left and gonna make 1,6k of them this weekend. :)

If u don't do construction then IMO there isn't any other buaybles you should do on BXW because gilded altar prayer is unaffected.

If u like farming also plant your highest trees and fruit trees and do them first. I'm planted magics and palms this morning, gonna make the run first thing on BXW, going to net atleast ~270k xp!!
