Revenge on a hacker?

How in the hell do you get the hackers IP if you only see the IP BEFORE you see your charicter..?

Its not too difficult to notice a difference on a screen you see very regularly, so when he logged in I imagine the different IP stood out before he logged in.

If you notice a difference in your IP, you're paranoid. Paranoid to the point where you know you did something to get hacked. >.<

As far as I'm concerned, if you have your hackers IP, you deserved the hack, you knew it was comming.

Speaking for 6 years of experience, you don't notice anything like that unless you're expecting it. Especially if you have a dynamic IP.

Not to hijack, but what is this DoS thing you refer to? I've heard it mentioned before.

DoS = Denial of service

Basically a person or people spam the target with requests (pings) and attempt to bring the server down.

In short it [bleep]s with the connection making runescape unpleasant to play.

Its not hard to notice the difference in ip on the login screen for rs; unless you realllllllllly are blind.

Unless its like ur next door neighbour or something.

I mean the random textual bits b4 the actual ip number change quite dramatically.

Speaking from someone playing rs since it first launched I notice the difference everytime I've logged on elsewhere

some people just dont believe it can happen until it happens to them..

You don't just get hacked. If you do, you absolutely did something to deserve it. End of story.

Yup even its a case of say tip.it got hacked (as forums sometimes do if they r a bit security lacking) and they got user data then used it to hack rs accounts.

If your password is the same on the forum as it is on rs its still your fault.

If your friend or your brother or w/e used your computer and got a keylogger and thus u got hacked, its still your fault for not having gd spyware/anti-virus.

I'm glad you get it.

If you don't follow basic security procedures, you're accepting the possible risk that comes with it.

The ONLY case of hacking I can think of tht isn't ur fault wuld be if the rs server itself got hacked and thus they directly got account info from jagex; but odds of tht seem very slim jagex has high security and im willing to bet if such a hack DID occur they'd do some big lockdown and force some sort of verification using data the hackers didn;t get before they let u change ur pass and only then allowing u to log on

While for the most part I agree that computer security is the responsibility of the user and that password parity is a large issue, there are still possibilities for a third party to steal your information. Given all the top-of the-line security suites, paranoid practice while surfing the web, and locking down ports and such, there's little you can do against a zero-day attack or highly skilled and determined hacker. Unless you never connect to the internet and never accept any external media, someone who wants access to your computer and your information will get to it.

Highly skilled hackers doesn't care about noob runescape players, maybe if it was top 10-100 or something, but i guess those players have some sort of immunity from attack, given by Jagex, would fit at least.

True.

But those top of the end hacks:

1) Soooooo highly unlikely to be used for a game so dont matter

2) They not gonna target people at random with tht sort of attack; you gotta of pissed them off for them to home in on your for such a specific attack.

So it'll still be your fault

I think this should be in Tech & Computers :P

And for everyones interests, Hacking is a wrong term for the case. Mate getting your pass would be stealing, someone installing a keylogger would be a sniffer (many different terms here), but a hacker is someone that infiltrates an system from a network and cracks passwords or exploit security holes to get access to databases where user information is stored. So technically, the pro hacker would hack himself into the database where he could set his stat and cash pile to maxed. Much easier than stealing passwords, thats why hacking never happens, because its a waste of time.

Probabilities all point to "it's your fault". The chances of you being hacked without doing nothing are so slim they barely pass as a possibility.

Bruteforce attacks on your account could take years to crack the password.

Depends, bruteforcing the login screen would take ages, because you only have a limited try per ip every five minutes. But if you somehow get a checksum you can crack it within some days, but it doesn't happen.

Should have got norton security, then you proberlly wouldn't have got hacked,it's your own fault, like people have already said you don't just get hacked, you have done something to get hacked, but having a bank pin is a must!!!!!!!!! I don't think a key logger can log this cuz you haven't typed it.

Maybe not a keylogger, but what about a program that takes a screenshot each time a mouse button is pressed?

? That sounds pretty insane

Your computer would have to

a.) Take a screenshot on every single button you press/type

b.) Send it to a remote source

It sounds pretty interesting, but it probably wouldn't work.

Other then the insane lagging you'll get every time you click, the screenshot would have to be the very instant you click something - and if it lags even a little, you'll get a picture of the flashing bank numbers.

On top of that, the people who created this program would have to sort through all the pictures to piece together your pin.

Sounds a little farfetched to be honest.

I don't. You'd actually have to look at your IP every time you log on.

I mean, if we had different colours or something if it was different lol...

I can understand that some people would notice that sort of thing, but the average person won't.

tl;dr

you either did something wrong or you were hacked by someone you know

Pretty much this. I find it interesting that because you think you don't go to bad sites, you think you don't need good internet security, as you disagreed with the person who suggested you should upgrade it.

Secondly, you should have a bank pin. I've never benn hacked, but I had one since the day they came out.

Also, the person dropping chaotics and leaving mean messages suggests it's not a random hacker; a random hacker would just steal your stuff, maaaaaaybe drop your chaotics, then move on, not waste time with mean messages. I'd think.

If u miss dramatic changes even at a glance ur far too unobservant imo

I mean mine goes from virginmedia.cliftcus8 or something like tht to britishtelecom or something to do with bt depending on whether im home/uni.

I can see if u have same net provider it'll be close enough to miss, but odds of hacker having even remotely close to yours is like 1 in a thousand

"Hai guys! I recently got 'hacked somehow' (in fact I was probably a moron who downloaded porn from shady sites 24/7). I don't have a bank PIN, I don't care about my computer's security and I took a big dump on all of Jagex's account security advice! So, like, halp?"

EDIT: "Also, I do drugs! Wow, I'm cool, eh?"

This.

Suck it up and move on. You didn't have a bank pin, so you face the consequences. Plus there is no way you can legally get revenge on someone if you know their IP.
