I think it's kinda acceptable for foreigners to make this mistake, since they have different grammatical structures and may have trouble adapting to English...? It's sometimes quite hard to tell the difference between that one kid who can't spell and some foreign guy.

This is the best rant ever. I've seen it in real life, even in workplaces and universities, where it shouldn't be acceptable at all.

I've gotten better at not doing the jerk-y corrections of people's spelling (a little, anyway!) but I still have to confess: the whole reason why I clicked this topic in the first place was because of the misspelled "your" and I wanted to rage.

OT: Grammar mistakes don't bother me that much. I just get a general idea of what they are trying to say and get a message out of it.

Only thing that annoys me is people saying "barrowing bcp." I didn't know that barrows dropped bcp's... its freaking "borrowing."

 

Outside of that, everything else makes me laugh at their illiteracy.

I agree with the rant as far as basic grammar and proper usage; however, personally, I also have problems with the misuse of certain words based on their connotations, rather than their denotations. If we start down this path, where do we draw the line?

:wall: RS is an MMO. A majority of people use abbreviations wherever possible; it's always been the case. They know the difference between "Your" and "You're", for example, but they're indifferent. This said, MMOs are bad places for Grammar Nazis.
