High Alchs per hour

If you are calculating exp rates I suggest you go with a slightly lower number, you almost certainly will either mess up or get a random once in an hour.

PM me in game anytime

It's a lot easier then that for an idiot to sound smart on the internet.

That's exactly what you're doing right now... just saying.

you shouldn't get randoms if you alch in soul wars

Interesting, I never thought about alching in soul wars....

have you considered training magic through other means?

low alching teaks is pretty good.

superheat LRC, etc.

Just to show that math for max exp per hour alching;

(5 game ticks per alch) x (.6 seconds per tick) = 3 seconds per alch

(60 minutes per hour) x (60 seconds per minute) = 3600 seconds per hour

(3600 seconds per hour) / (3 seconds per alch) = 1200 alches per hour

(1200 alches per hour) x (65 exp per alch) = 78000 experience per hour

low alching teaks...? Why low, why teaks? And what is LRC?

At a gues, I'd say low because it doesn't interrupt woodcutting, teaks for woodcutting xp, and LRC for living rock caverns.

High alching doesn't interrupt woodcutting, either. (Or at least it didn't 3 months ago the last time it tried.) And to answer the original question, yes, 1200 an hour is the absolute maximum as you alch once every 3 seconds. Actually achieving this is pretty much impossible though and you should expect anywhere from 1000-1150 on a long term basis depending on how chatty you are and how much you afk.

How is it impossible? All you need to do it keep a consistent pace with clicking, and you should be fine. Going afk and talking to others aren't reasons that make it impossible to get the max exp because you choose to do those. Alching is easy enough that it requires almost no concentration.

well for one thing, game ticks are not exactly 0.6 seconds

The average game tick is actually slightly longer.

RS wiki says the average game tick is 0.606 to 0.618 seconds depending on server population/lag.

I've spoken to the ancient and he thinks the average game tick is even longer than what RS wiki claims.

I've personally done no testing of this on my own.

What I meant was that it's not impossible to get the maximum alches possible per hour, even if it's not 1200 exactly.

On a different note, I never knew that it was slightly longer.

oh yeah, it's really easy now that you can queue up your next alch by casting it early.

If you're going to alch, do it while doing something else. High alch is an incredible training spell that everyone uses incorrectly by bankstanding with it. I personally like to alch while slaying or barbarian fishing, alching the fish.

This was about the maximum amount of alchs an hour, slaying or anything that would interrupt it would reduce the amount cast an hour.

It is still a valid point. Not getting the max number of alches can be more efficient if the reason is doing something else like slaying or fishing. That way you'd be getting the normal amount of exp while training a skill, and get the bonus exp from alching while training that skill.

I can see that point but I think the maximum amount would be asked usually if someone was training purely magic.

Otherwise superheat would be a good alternative as well.

However I will not say your wrong because the OP hasn't said otherwise.

Just to add, while .6 vs .618 might seem insignificant, you're losing ~175 tic's an hour.

Grimy, the ancient do any tests themselves? Are you planning on testing yourself at some point? It's something no one really pays attention to that still affects everyone, seems the sort of thing worth looking into. Something i've always been curious about, but haven't been able to test properly myself.

afaik, he did not.

and no, i don't plan on testing it in the near future (within 6 months from now).

We both have our hands kinda full.

Maybe if I think of a convenient way to calculate it.

For example if i knew with certainty that the in game stop watch counted ticks, i'd do that.

but i don't know that with certainty.

  • 2 weeks later...

Is there a definitive list of skills one can train while alching? I am going to be alching a large sum of things soon and I am wondering if I could/should do any of the following:

1) Mining in LRC (not what Im alching)

2) Woodcutting

3) Smelting gold ore

You can alch while fishing, but you will have to combine dropping and fishing. You can also alch while woodcutting, again dropping the logs, and while mining in the same way. You don't have to do anything special to alch during smelting gold. You can also alch while casting stun over and over for more magic xp and during combat. You can perhaps also alch during other activities such as agility but the question is if that's worth the hassle.
