Do you guys think Edating is ok?

You've made several points and you haven't backed them up, despite given several opportunities to do so.

I'd argue the evidence against your claim is that dating websites continue to run as businesses; despite apparently being the weapon of choice for rapists and paedophiles, the police, the judiciary and the legislatures of several countries have seen no reason to close them down. Which rather suggests they're not actually full of criminals, and they actually provide some other service.

Now, I can't possibly begin to fathom what that other service might be...

I see no need to argue his point when Google can do my arguing for me. Do a simple search. The amount of people that have been molested, raped, murdered or attempts at any of the aforementioned, due to e-dating are staggering. In the school i used to go to, heck even in the country i used to live in, this happened so often. It was on the news at least once every week or two.

Good. Then finding a source for your claim shouldn't be too much to ask for then, would it? It's either a notable amount, in which case newpapers should be covering it (thus, you can post URLs here); or it isn't notable and, basically, you're wrong.

Yes, the same thing might happen when you date the old fashioned way, but by staying away from e-dating you make it a lot harder for yourself to fall victim to this. Its a lot easier to create a fake persona on an internet dating site than it is creating (and living) by this fake persona in real life.

I'd argue the opposite. Given the vast quantities of information we freely store on the Internet (think of how much we give Facebook alone), the lack of security guarding this information, it wouldn't be too difficult to find the identity of someone fairly quickly, even if they were using pseudonyms as we do around the Tip.It Forum. To use dating websites you also need access to the Internet, so either you need an Internet cafe, in which case you're on CCTV, or you need a supplier, in which case there's a contract, in which case there's a bank account and a paper trail.

Compare that to a lonely hearts column in a newspaper where frankly, I could put down any name I wanted and no-one would know any better.

Now you might argue that this is more likely to happen in a 3rd world country due to the lack of knowledge or understanding (and by that i mean understanding that the internet is full of lies **), but they are still people like you and me thus making my argument somewhat valid although just (or more common) within a certain community.

**You might find it funny that i mention this: "and by that i mean understanding that the internet is full of lies".

But once again you would be surprised how uninformed a lot of people in Africa are about what the internet really is.

I don't actually understand what any of the above has to do with anything previously discussed in this thread. I mean, quite apart from the racist undertone, it's totally irrelevent.

Africa = Continent =/= Race.

Therefore saying it has a racist undertone =/= invalid.

As for it being irrelevant. It's going to be really hard for me to actually explain what i mean by this if you haven't lived in Africa yourself. And no matter how i say it, it WILL sound like i'm taking a bash at a certain race even if im actually trying to justify their way of thinking.

As for this

If you're in need of any evidence, the internet is at your disposal. This is not a court case, and i do not need to defend myself. I have no point to prove, but if you feel like you need to prove something you're more than welcome to do find whatever you can to do so. If you're ignorant enough to think i'm wrong, then that's an intellectual disability you're going to have to live with. I can't help you there.

No point to prove? Well you did in fact drop a comment about e-dating being for rapists and pedophiles etc. You also tried to insinuate that the majority of e-dating incidents end up like this, so it would seem like you have a point to prove. Sure there are cases where this has happened, but I'm fairly certain they are going to be a minority of cases. Just as though they are likely to be a minority in normal dating circumstances.

So we're intellectually disabled if we disagree with you but you won't defend your own opinion? Lol.

Anyway, Nox, the burden of proof is on you. If you don't provide, we will assume that everything you said is false and/or fabricated.

In addition, to be caught by a rapist/pedophile while e-dating requires you to use little no to no caution and to be stupid about it. Anyone with a few ounces of sense should be fine.

I don't agree with most social norms in the first place, so I don't see how this is anything different than playing a sport I am not interested in. To each his own. As for online predators, they sure do exist but they are overhyped by the media.

Does it matter that most of these "women" on these dating sites would be men anyway ?

You can still date men, can't you :-k

But in seriousness, dating is a mix of physical and mental aspects, so I'd find it pretty hard to have an exclusively online, non-physical relationship.

@ Ginger: Obviously when i said "E-dating is for cowards, pedophiles, molesters, etc." it might have been a harsh generalization. Obviously not EVERYONE that uses those sites are pedophiles, molesters, etc. But a staggering amount of them are. Probably a minority, i wouldn't know. I've heard of more than enough bad cases to back my opinion (now lets all remember opinions =/= fact and therefor are allowed to be ignorant). And i like how you put words in my mouth. Because of course i said its the weapon of choice for pedophiles and molesters. But once again, i couldn't care less.

And yes, you have given me the chance to back my claims, but frankly i can't be bothered. If you're so concerned that what i'm saying is false or miss-informing then you're more than welcome to research why i might say that. I just can not be bothered to spend my time searching the databases of newspapers to prove someone i do not know, nor care about wrong. And i couldn't be bothered any less if that person got any kicks out of proving me wrong. I'm sure you can understand that?

@istolethepie: That post was directed at Ginger. If you feel it applies to you, then that's your problem.

@Nomrom: Assume everything i said is false and/or fabricated.

Edating over games where you can't physically see the other person I find to be sketchy. Let's face it, how attractive a person is physically (no matter what the hell guys/girls say) is a huuuge part of a relationship with someone. People can be pretty attractive over the internet with their written language. Doesn't mean they're attractive to you physically (this also goes for those 40 or whatever year old internet predators, especially of the same gender (unless you roll that way, but you get the gist)).

But hey, if it works out for ya, I have nothing wrong with it. Caution is key, though.

If you had more conservative with what you posted at the start, then your posts probably wouldn't have come under attack. If you had said something like "E-dating is bad becuase you are more at risk from online predators than through real life dating" then that is something people probably would agree with.

True, which backs the fact that people are fast to assume the negative as apposed to "he might be putting it on a bit thick, but i know where he's coming from". But what's done cannot be undone nor should it. Also i probably should say that my initial response was made with ignorance as i was referring mostly to the incidents that have occurred where i live rather than universal.

E-dating isn't bad if you end up meeting the person, but it's hard to keep it going because physical contact is important when you're in a relationship, maybe if you both truly love each other, and have regular webcam chats, then it can work out. But in my opinion, dating someone in a game is stupid, especially if you don't know what they look like.
