I had to reboot my comp, so I need to reinstall dwarf fortress.

Does anyone still have that old link for the newb pack?

Woah, I stepped into this thread at the wrong time.

Actually no, dogs don't get mad because of it. Once my aunt's dog (a well-built amstaff) got a bit to curious while I was taking a leak in the woods. Let's just say he thought of me as the alpha-male ever since.

@ross My Core i7 930 makes DF it's [bleep], I get worlds in under 30 seconds.

My new one has the same. 3.06 Ghz, 1.5TB Hard disk, 8GB RAM at 1600Mhz too.

Well, it will when it actually arrives. 10-14 working days my ass.

Still, if what you say is true, I look forward to constant 120 fps forts.

I find it funny how such a crude game as DF can take more proccessing power than any FPS.

Cool I got a P4, 1gb of ram piece of crap that can barely run the original half life. Win. -.-

I had a ATI dual-core with no GPU and no driver, 220GB hard drive 4GB Ram and unkown CPU. That piece of [cabbage] lagged even on Robot Unicorn Attack.

I haven't got past 50 dwarves yet, but no lag for me. Mega worlds may take longer though.

What Video Card did you get?

Not sure, though does it matter without a driver for it?

Was talking to ross, but your post confuses me. You say you have an ATI dual core, except ATI doesn't make CPUs, and then you say you have a no-name CPU. Thou dotht confuseth me.

I have no idea about the CPU but I just posted some of the stats.

Open command prompt and type in dxdiag, it should show some basic info on your computer, assuming you are using windows.

I'm using my school computer now. I stoped using that piece of [cabbage] as soon as I got this.

Pity DF can't do multithreading, it would increase performance immensly. I tend to give it it's own core right now, it increases performance, sure, but it pretty much devours that core.

100% usage all the time while DF is running, even on a fairly high end one.

I also find it amusing how an Ascii game can maim even top of the range computers which can run Crysis on max settings.

2Xeo5.png

Hey ross/whoever is rather knowledgeable of DF could I ask a question? How do you deal with your excess stones in the beginning?

LNYvk.png

You can mass dump them, or just hide them.

I have a EVGA super-clocked 460 1gb. It's a bit slower than a 465, but it runs cooler and scales better in SLI. I'm getting another for Christmas, and then it shall be crysis maxed detail.

@Grim - Quantum stockpiling. You designate one square as a dump, get your dwarves to move all the rocks, and reclaim the land.

Why does everyone use Crysis to define something's performance?

On that note, Crysis 2 is coming out. :)

Because it is very graphic intensive.

Grim, desgnate a [g]arbage dump, then [d]--[d] all the stone.

I tried logging into Runescape.

Now I remember why I quit.

WHY JAGEX?! WHY DID YOU REMOVE THE CENSORS!!!

EDIT: Earth? Butterflies with knives? Really?

Are you sure those weren't just Sarah and Lidya?

I haven't seen those two with knives, though i would like to try knife throwing myself. Nope, it was just me going a bit more insane.. Oh, and i'm starting dwarf fortress up and its taking less than 1 percent on my computors overall computing power.

Unless you have some kind of dodecacore hypercomputer, I highly doubt that is correct.
