Assume Nothing
Since when do you put dumplings in water? I know you do that for wonton (obviously), but all my life I've eaten them straight up with maybe black vinegar on the side (and fried, of course)... Edit: Then again, wontons are a type of dumplings... Say wontons then! Wongtons! Wontongs! Wonton. Dumplings. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiaozi Dumplings covers the steamed version, the grilled/fried version, and the soup version. And the colour of the vinegar isn't really that important, we're all referring to rice vinegar here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice_vinegar#Chinese Oh, and because China is so big, there are different Cuisines in different parts of China. There are more soup based dumplings than just Wonton. Incase people don't know what Cha Siu Bao is, it's basically steamy, savoury, barbecue pork buns. Here's a pic of it;
ThurinEthir
<3: It's so weird reading the pinyin lol, I always just say it out loud. I usually don't like Cantonese food (probably because my dad's family is Canto and we have Canto food every single [bleep]ing time a relative comes over), but cha siu bao are fine...very fine. While we're on the topic of Asian food, how many of you can I creep out with this?[hide=][/hide]Pig's blood cake. :)Less disgusting but just as good:[hide=][/hide][have no clue what the English name would be...it's chicken something]Oh man I miss Taiwan so much. Wongtong
Wongtong, have you ever had Turbot?Yes, I believe I have. Not much meat on there, but still nommy. @ThurinEthir: Eating pig blood is kinda gross, but it tastes okay. I think the whole 'blood' thing just puts me off though. @Pinkbullet: Those are quite nice too, it's the same filling just in a different bun. I think I prefer the ones you posted, but both are goooood. LOOK AT THIS. MINI CAKES! 8,180WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME#1 Wongtong stalker.Im looking for some No Limit soldiers! Assume Nothing
My parents and I go to the Chinatown in Chicago about once a month, and we got cha shao baos too. Ours looks like these: That's the baked version, that actually resembles bread, with savoury meat filling. What I posted was the steamed version, which was a soft bun. Here's some vegetables to go with the meal EDIT - Hmm, chicken wings with a 'Spicy salt' mix is pretty damn good too Lol, another edit - Found some baked lobster and cheese images. @Wongtong; It's a flatfish, the big ones are the ones with loads of meat. Actually, that sounds a little wrong on a food thread :x. It's known for it's delicate flavour though. Best served steamed, with a light touch of soy and some sliced spring onions. Not so sure about the kind of buns Pinkbullet posted, I've seen them in a few authentic vendors in London Chinatown. I just realised that fried rice is quite common in Authentic Chinese Cuisine, didn't know that. EDIT - I dislike Szechuan cuisine for one simple reason - Far too many spices. "From the Cantonese perspective, strong spices are added only to stale seafood to cover the rotting odour."

Assume Nothing
I'm honestly not a huge Chinese food fan. I mean I like a lot of it, but it's not my favorite. Tell me, are you referring to the authentic stuff, or the American stuff? The American stuff is basically modification of Chinese food to be more palatable for Americans. Personally, I hate it. I've ate some of it before and just didn't like it. I'd be ashamed to call that Chinese Food More info on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_chinese_cuisine EDIT - A picture for my post This is real Chinese food.
