Since when do you put dumplings in water?

 

I know you do that for wonton (obviously), but all my life I've eaten them straight up with maybe black vinegar on the side (and fried, of course)...

 

Edit: Then again, wontons are a type of dumplings... Say wontons then! Wongtons! Wontongs!

Dumplings covers the steamed version, the grilled/fried version, and the soup version.

 

And the colour of the vinegar isn't really that important, we're all referring to rice vinegar here.

Oh, and because China is so big, there are different Cuisines in different parts of China. There are more soup based dumplings than just Wonton.

 

Incase people don't know what Cha Siu Bao is, it's basically steamy, savoury, barbecue pork buns.

It's so weird reading the pinyin lol, I always just say it out loud. I usually don't like Cantonese food (probably because my dad's family is Canto and we have Canto food every single [bleep]ing time a relative comes over), but cha siu bao are fine...very fine.

@Wongtong; It's a flatfish, the big ones are the ones with loads of meat. Actually, that sounds a little wrong on a food thread :x. It's known for it's delicate flavour though. Best served steamed, with a light touch of soy and some sliced spring onions.

It's weird, some people get mixed up with Westernised Chinese Foods and Authentic Chinese Foods. Not so sure about the kind of buns Pinkbullet posted, I've seen them in a few authentic vendors in London Chinatown.

 

I just realised that fried rice is quite common in Authentic Chinese Cuisine, didn't know that.

 

 

EDIT - I dislike Szechuan cuisine for one simple reason - Far too many spices. "From the Cantonese perspective, strong spices are added only to stale seafood to cover the rotting odour."

Tell me, are you referring to the authentic stuff, or the American stuff? The American stuff is basically modification of Chinese food to be more palatable for Americans.

 

Personally, I hate it. I've ate some of it before and just didn't like it. I'd be ashamed to call that Chinese Food

No, sir. That is not the case. Keep our foods separate. We all live near different Chinatowns and our parents are all from different parts of Asia so you might as well not try to compare mine from yours from Wong's from Penguins, mmk. Ty.
