items that may become useless after EOC

Low Levelled

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any good guesses on items that are going to become useless? I'm trying to figure out what is going to change with this whole combat thing. I'm not super active right now, and I'm not going to be trying the BETA.

Slayer helms, too.

so then what would be the best helmet item for slayer?

Whatever the highest defensive helm is. Slayer helms lose their 7/6 bonuses. They'd still be used at spectres I guess.

Dragon boots will be largely outclassed by bandos boots if you have the defense level for them.

Arcane Stream Necklace will lose its damage % bonus and turn into a generic (but high) critical hit % bonus boost for Magic. 4.9%, as opposed to Fury's 4.4%.

As of now, the amulet of ranging has the same bonus for its own class. They're the best single-class amulets.

It's funny, because everyone automatically assumes that was is currently true in beta will remain true forever.

Especially evident in items that clearly haven't had the right stats set yet. I'm pretty sure that Jagex hasn't come up with good/balanced stats for most unique items yet - Elite void currently just has its prayer bonus and a lot of quest weapons have damage and hit bonuses around 10 each.

The general theme seems to be any armour that was primarily purchased/obtained for it's offensive bonuses (with a few exceptions like bandos) and also spec weapons will become outclassed until Jagex has a look at them again.

Slayer helm not doing anything special except combining different slayer protections doesn't sit right with me at all. 10% more dmg on melee void will also probably be not worth it.

Void Armour aswell dont forget.

Low HP boost Low Def and not as decent Attacking potential

Void armour has decent enough health boost, it should still be useful for camping stuff for champion scrolls and whatnot. How useful the boost is depends on whether it applies to abilities or not.

I think void and slayer helm are probably going to be dealt with later. I mean special effect items seem to be taking time to deal with, they only sorted of spirit shields after a week or so ago and last update sorted out barrows sets.

Also the guy who said stream will be useless wtf? I'd call the best mage amulet stats wise in-game useful, even if the unique effect is gone. I mean yes Fury is some what close to it, but it's still worse than it (unless you really need hy/tribrid numbers.

But the real question is, does the fury's other bonuses make it outclass the stream.

Well as it stands it only has major offensive boons and nothing really towards defence (to my knowledge), therefore unless hy/tribridding the greater boon to mage/range from stream would still be better as boons to melee/range offence res useless to you then.

And this is of course without even touching on availability with prices etc. Fury is out of reach for many until well after they can use it where as the stream is much easier and cheaper to obtain.

If all you're gonna be doing is maging, the stream is better, but if you're hybriding, fury would serve better. Same argument for amulet of ranging. Afaik fury only gives crit bonuses atm, nothing else.

Don't panic. This is only a beta, I'm sure many of these items will be changed for the better.

People are making guesses way TOO early.

It's not probable that jagex downgrades items like slayer helm. If the exp rates are not getting any higher according to jagex, then no point on removing the bonus. Same with void, especially if you consider that void is useless for anything other than pure offensive setups. So you won't be doing boss hunting with it anymore, but you probably still want it for lower lvl monster camping.

Defenders are also getting a revamp if you read the stuff some weeks ago, so clearing them out of the equation isn't worth, although I would risk saying that for melee purposes dungeoneering will remain on top for off-hands.

You can for sure put things like bandos boots > dragon boots, but the amount of situations where this clearly is going to happen is very low. Mostly rings and amulets are areas which you can pretty much cover, but even then, we still need to wait for jagex to rebalance certain stats (amulet of defense/accuracy or avas).

Most spec weapons are also probably going to be outclassed unless they massively buff their damage (which is unlikely).

I'd love it if weapons could have their own special attacks again. But perhaps they would "power up" existing abilities, giving them new animations, effects etc. For example, an Armadyl Godsword could power up the "pulverize" ultimate to do even more damage, along with a new animation. Dragon claws get a powered up "flurry" ability. Korasi's sword might add magical damage to an ability. You get the idea.

I believe a lot of the special effects on items haven't yet been added, but will be (void, slayer helm)

Spec weapons won't be as good.
