The Big Chinchompa & Boost Your Bank! (28th of August)

Oh, and with regards to them completely predictably expanding the sale of ostensibly "cosmetic gear" into meaningful advantages; all I can say is, I told you so! But I am sure the apologists will still maintain that this isn't a big deal, they have to save face after all!

Can someone explain how 'buyable bankspace' is an "advantage"?

I wrote about this on my website, but Jagex cancelled a previous plan to include bank space as a perk for buying an authenticator because of the response that it would be selling an advantage. They ultimately agreed and the authenticator was later canned for lack of enthusiasm apparently.

But it does give an advantage, especially in free to play where bank space is so confined. RuneScape is a game all about the gathering, processing, and trade of massive amounts of "stuff," and a major impediment to that has always been bank space. So for someone to have more bank space offers them an advantage because they can hold on to more stuff.

And yet, It's cheaper to just pay for P2P than to buy 50 bankspaces in F2P. As for the similar argument in P2P, there are already plenty of ways to stretch out your bank. Whilst I have the standard # of bankspaces, I've also got a fully upgraded Costume Room that stores hundreds of items, which I could store even more in if I had treasure trails crap. Anything breakable and reobtainable (god books/holiday items) that I'm not using go away, saving another bunch of space. I know people play differently blah blah, but I would personally have trouble filling my bank unless I was absolutely trying for it.

But for the most part, what spaces I have in my bank don't give an advantage over Joe the Plumber playing next door.

10$ for free increased bankspace forever that will even carry over if you ever decide to upgrade compared to a 300+ upgrade for a month with over 10x the content to fill it all up. You can't really compare the two. To a pure F2Per, I could definitely see how buying bankspace would be an alluring thing. But the new argument will be whether or not buying bankspace devalues your f2p achievements.

I'm pure f2p, and I have plenty of space for all my stuff, so no thanks for buying extra bank space.

...so why the hell can't players have an RSA dongle now?! I mean, you're already selling the advantage of extra bankspace! You may as well give players something useful out of the deal!

...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago.

Surprised no one thought of the idea of being able to buy loyalty points/rewards with runecoins yet.

Interesting update.

And then turn around and implement it with an obviously larger advantage. The amount of fail with this move cannot be contained in a square kilometer.

I can see the bank space update be useful in F2P. Although my bank isn't as crammed as it used to be after they increase the number of slots we get, the 50 free bank spaces still increases my bank space by more than 50%. Still not going to buy it.

To be quite honest, I'm kind of pissed off at how many loopholes Jagex is finding with their promises. Yes, they haven't broken their promise that Solomon's Store will sell in-game advantages, however this is pushing it.

As for the Hunter update, I find it to be a nice bonus. 200+ red chins caught per day without bots messing with you (assuming 700 points/D&D) is alright.

About what you say about the bank space update: Exactly my thought as well. They're really pushing this (too) far now. I bet that we before New Year's Eve will have seen them pushed this even further.

I have a feeling that along with EoC we'll see the first signs of buyable weapons and armor. Releasing them alongside Runescape's "biggest update ever" will certainly soften the blow and I believe they've pulled stunts like this before, though I can't remember with what.

Maybe I'm missing something, but wasn't the reason they canned that project because of a poll that showed that players would only be willing to buy them at prices that would cost Jagex money, if they bought it at all? It wasn't that players didn't want more bankspace, it's that they'd only want the security dongle if it was less than $10 and came with a bank space upgrade. A lot of people back then thought of it as an inconvenience at best - If it was lost or stolen, you'd be locked out of your account.

Nothing to do with the bankspace, it just wasn't a particularly popular idea.

Sorry. This may just be me. But I am sick of people acting mad and or surprised at these updates. WE ALL KNOW the road the game is going down. Most updates now are going to slowly compound the already heavily placed microtransaction MMO scheme. YES they will eventually sell weapons, armour and most likely gold. Stop pretending you're surprised. If it upsets you so much, there are thousands of other games to play. YES it is sad to see this game sprint down this path. Am I surprised at the inevatible? No.

Sorry I think buying bank space is fine. Matter of fact I bought 4/5 of the bank boosters because there is so much aside from being an efficiency-[bleep] like most players that allures me to it.

I'm not mad or surprised. I had a good feeling from the moment IVP stepped in charge that RuneScape would turn out just like Maplestory.

People are not angry because of this specific ability to buy bank boosters but they see the slow but steady increases in rwt. The advantages that however slight are being compounded with ever increasing releases of more rwt. A lot of players have junk in their bank me included. If I was really efficient I would not have kept the sof rewards, different varieties of pets, items to do lv 3 treasure trails which I don't do anymore and so on. Even so I still have a dozen space for more junk. So bank boosters are not really needed for most players.

You're right, you're the only one ever who has ever thought of that. Ever.

It's been discussed to death. What's more likely is they'll simply create Loyalty Shop counterparts, like a greenfingers counterpart in solomon etc. When faced with something significantly harder to obtain (Loyalty Shop), buying becomes a more enticing option.

I'm a member have a whole tab for PVP clanning and I don't even use all of my F2P spaces. #

With love to one, friendship to many, and good will to all.

Not the best update they've done, but I imagine it'll be nicer as activity dies down. It's a bit of a pain to play now with so many players running around, and the rewards aren't too great. Maybe if they'd boost the rewards a bit and the XP as well, it might last for more than 2 weeks.

As for the bankspace thing, I'm a bit disappointed that they wanted to give us much needed bankspace in this fashion, but I'm not too bothered by it.

Hopefully if the bank space options remain in the loyalty store then at the very least we'll be able to supplement our bank space at the rate we used to get with their progressive additions.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

Not sure if this is the right place but I'm not willing to give the sizzling summer thing its own thread for just one section.

  • Daily Challenges – with fantastic rewards every day!
  • Two epic quests - with a brand-new storyline featuring Ozan!
  • God Wars Dungeon – A classic re-mastered, now with even more drops!

http://services.rune...ling-september-

Two new quests, and a GWD rework that might just feature the new items?

I'm sold lol, to hell with everything else.
