WaN
Have you ever been thinking about, how much money jagex gets each month thanks to runescape members? I calculated in big numbers: 5$ each month/player Every day you can see over 1k p2p players on each p2p server There are like 44 p2p servers? Then we can count around 44k +? p2p players... Say that we have another 21k inactive or on f2p servers,s Then the profit to jagex is 65 000 * 5$ = 325 000$ each month. 3.9 Million dollars each year =) Its funny to calculate on this. I know that i could be verry wrong about the numbers so correct me if I'm wrong.
AirlessWig
I think there are way more members. You forget to mention that they have to keep the servers up, have to pay developpers, customer service,... Bu yea they make good money Click here for my guide on how to solo the D Kings

Well they make that much, but then you have to include expenses such as server hosting, employee wages/salary, utility expenses ect, so it's really not that much. I'm sure they still make enough tho to have a very nice living :D
aj926
If they made only 3.9, we'd still be playing RSC with no updates and Andrew would be eating out of a cardboard box. EDIT- However... I speculate that they amke 12 million, with adverts. I Speculate that they spend 3M of it on the servers.

WaN
nice to hear your thoughts =) I know that they're paying for serverhost and so on, and that they may be earning way more than 3.9 mill a year. But its still a pretty good profit for a lowgraphic online game ;)
ValaraZ
nice to hear your thoughts =) I know that they're paying for serverhost and so on, and that they may be earning way more than 3.9 mill a year. But its still a pretty good profit for a lowgraphic online game ;) Yep. i heard from radio that they get 0.01̢̢̮ââ¬Ã¡Ãâì from clicks. this is the lowest click fee they will allow so it can be more, more the advertisers pay more their adds show up on the f2p window. Allthough that was from google, it can be applied here. 4milll sounds pretty little. if you take a look at the staff list you can see why. they have employed alot of ppl since i started hanging around here. now like 50+ staff members, then there were maybe 10 or so. 12m sounds like good number and i bet andrew is a wealthy man. Barihawk
Actually, they do. Try checking up on Jagex on the Stock Market reports. Believe it or not, they make more money on F2P than they do Subscriptions. Marketers know that LOTS of people play Runescape...especially kids 14 and below. Know those ads "shoot the midget and get a free PS4!!11"...those are click beasts. Not to mention, you fail to recognize that Jagex does not only make money off of Runescape...they also design corporate websites and deliver other products related to Java. They have a CEO and an Executive Board, and have rather good stock (It would have been wise to invest right before RS2 came, apparently). My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. Believe me, nothing except a battle lost can be half so melancholy as a battle won. -Sir Arthur Wellesley

ozzie_the_owl
ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... wrong lets take a look at the highscores. lets see now, members skill with most ppl on list is fletching wow, just over 500k now, assuming that 20% of those people on that list are no longer playing or no longer p2p, we come up with the # of 400k paying members of runescape. 400k * $5 (at least, it cost more in different places using different types of buying, for example, paybyphone is 6.99) = 2 M * 12 (months in a year) jagex is currently making about $24 million dollars yearly, not including advertisements and howevermuch they make from allowing miniclip to show runescape, which i would put at around 300k+, since runescape.com gets so many hits per day, they would be able to charge more for their advertisements. granted server costs and employies, they make much less than that profit, but the figure itself is nearly 7X your estamate.
mikehild
And those are just the people that appear in the highscores. Not all members will have 30+ fletching so I think its safe to say that there are at least 475k paying members.

imaerehw14
i would like to add to this thread, that i dont think im the only one who pays by month/3 month periods with cash through mail. thus, 1 month is $8 (i dont have a credit card, and the intrest rates would basically be the same for that membership if you carded it or mailed it). so now you have a lot of variables to contend with, and that just pushed your 12m way up.
