Urza285
I think I get what you mean by putting the storyline into the game more fluently. The game obviously wont forgo their epic quests with story material because these things are at the core of the game. Though I still feel you are wrong on this aspect. The player base wants something with replay value, has lore and isn't a one-off quest or piece of content to play through. Because this is going to be a skill based around the lore we are going to take an active role in the lore and how it will change and shape the game. Previously in quests we would get snippets of back story, play a quest involving the problem involving the areas history and gain some insight into future events. Instead of playing content tied to the past lore we will now be playing content tied to the present and in a sense future lore and history. Previously we would always be looking back into the past for prolonged periods of time. We would glance with our investigative eye at the lore from the past to solve a present puzzle lore-wise. Now instead we will be living that moment where grand and epic events would happen such as the betrayal of Char. Events such as those and our actions taken will then effect what might potentially happen in future world events. The first world event was stated to come to us soon after the release of RS3 and later events three months afterwards. These events will probably be like king of the hill like struggles to fight over current lands such as varrock. Honestly I would look at this skill as adding a bit more fat and muscle to the current lore infrastructure to further enhance the story line. Its kind of like how people view distant histories about real people or places. They don't cherish past events so much because they've never lived it or been so immersed in the after-effects of the events. A good example would be looking at the 9-11 events and how they effect us and then think about how a couple generations from now might view its importance. Binary Mage
Was pretty much a certainty by now, but I'm glad we finally got official confirmation :D Now let's see if they reveal details this week. A lot of MMO news websites made a much smaller article than IGN did from the press briefing's info, but said that exclusive details would be coming the week after. Let's hope! It just seems like IGN was just a little quick to pull the trigger on Divination info. A whole bunch of websites reported on details from the exact same press event, and yet IGN was the only one to talk about Divination at all. Seems like we might be getting more details from other websites in the coming days/weeks, considering that they are still saying they have information from the event. For all we know they might just do the Divination namedrop a week after IGN did and not provide anything substantial yet. Ammako
If the skill is a direct continuation of TWW, I kinda hope the skill would have it as a requirement. Then again, we're talking about the same Jagex that removed the quest requirements for training Runecrafting, Summoning and Herblore, so I wouldn't hold my breath. They removed the quest requirement from Summoning, Runecrafting, and Herblore because they were too inaccessible--they're not going to add a requirement fifteen times as hard to a brand-new skill. Besides, Divination is supposed to be partially a F2P skill. F2P cannot access TWW, and thus would not be able to access any content at all. 1 The Fallen Diviner
Urza285
If divination is something more of a future sight thing then its rewards must be quite interesting based on this premise: The gods are not actually gods. They are mortal beings who have absorbed so much power from the artifacts that they have gained the power to do innumerable things. Many of them very obscure or even observed for that fact. With that said I wouldn't put it past these 'gods' to be able to hear our thoughts, read our intents and ultimately grant our wishes. Thinking in terms of prophecies, more specifically self-fulfilling prophecies, the gods might play the role as divine wish granters. Though they might not be so bold as to grant them up front, but I would suppose they would send down 'signs' through use of divination rituals. What I and everyone else is struggling with is what might come from this skill that would be of use. I can easily see how the lore would be tied in, but a product... how? Ezkaton
I'd have really loved it if the whole IGN releasing the name of the skill was a ploy by Jagex much like Tyrion's move in Book 2/Series 2 of Game of Thrones when he tells Maester Pycell, Littlefinger and Varys all different things about Cersi's daughter, and seeing which one Cersi gets pissed at him for. So Jagex in the same way were looking for game sites they can and can't trust with senstitive info. Then again it has been confirmed. So woop. Now just hoping to see what they say/post and do with it. Just praying to every God and deity in RS, and IRL hoping they don't make the skills 120. 2 Reacting impulsively and saying what's on your mind feels oh so good.. for a little, until you realize you just started WWIII.2672nd person to reach 2496 total. Thanks to Wicked for the awesome siggy :D
Blyaunte
My only worry is that, if, as and when they do add “divination” to the game as a skill, it’s going to be an actual bona-fide "skill" and not another “mini-game” like Dungeoneering …

Someone already asked in a Q&A if it was going to be a unique skill like Dungeoneering, and Mod Mark said its designed to feel like a traditional gathering skill (like Fishing or Woodcutting). Tansuo
Find it suprising that people are finding Divination to be the first skill intertwined with lore. Did we suddenly forget that Dungeoneering existed? Metagrosss
http://frontpage.fok.nl/special/597874/2/1/50/runescape-3.html ^ this link reflects an interview by Jagex to a dutch news site. Special things mentioned: - summoning is getting some sort of extra feature: level up your own predator, animal or monster- the state of Gielinor will change during the year, according to which god gets the most players following him, for example: if guthix gets 51% of the players following him, Gielinor will turn all green and colourful; every three months jagex monitors the players choice of god and probably will change the landscape- Divination has something to do with the story Not much, although i'm interested in leveling my own predator :) Edit: ifthese things are already old news, i'm sorry, first time I heared about the first two :)
X3EN
So... skilling + lore version of prayer? It's an excuse to bring in non-aura wings to make sure RS is less and less unique among MMOs. Apparently they've said before that they have plans to rework Summoning so that you have more permanent-style pets that fight for you and gain XP alongside you. I would be really, really, REALLY surprised if it came out with RS3, but incredibly happy if it does! I was expecting Winter at the least. Sy_Accursed
^Tbf the summoning rework has never been 'planned for this year' It's just one of many reworks we know to be on their to-do list (con, agile, mine n smith are there too); but it does sound like it makes use of the level-my-x concept they said they were looking at for weapons and such. Would be kinda cool if summoning got entirely reworked so that like rather than having this array of useless stuff with the odd golden one each person would pick like a BoB, a healer, a fighter, a mage etc. and the looks would be cosmetic effects the same but you like trained it and leveled it to make it better. Eg have a choice of terrorbird, tort and yak for BoB and as you train it up how much it holds increases.I just like the idea of summoning being more personal - as in you bind a small array of spirits to yourself to train and grow with. It appears to be that the full rework is going to be sometime in the future, but that that there will be a large change to how Summoning is trained, the pet system, and how summons fight for you (which is going to be this year). Exciting stuff. I wonder just how many of the future updates we've been hearing about over the past year are going to be crammed together into the RS3 release. It's sure going to be an enormous change :D The Fallen Diviner

Not really fair, according it is mtx instead of a skill...unless you consider real-life moneymaking as some sort of invisible skill.
