February 19, 200620 yr Alright, decided to give the forum another boost, tournament threads generally do good. And since most of us are familliar with movies from the 80's I decided this would be a good tournament. The way we are going to do it. I'm planning to make more tournaments (not at the same time), so we are going to do this slightly faster than the previous tournaments we've held. Instead of a tournament that's open for a month or three (the greatest movie ever thread), we're going to wrap things up in a month or a bit longer; depending on the size of the tournament. First we'll be open for a nomination week. Everybody can nominate any movie they want. Doesn't matter if it's English, Rusian, Italian, German, French, Brazilian or whatever. To get in the tournament a movie needs to get two nominations, no exceptions. During the nominations I will keep a list with all the movies that still need 'support', so it's not to hard to find out which movies still need a vote to get in the tournament. So, you might wonder how we're going to do a tournament this fast. The voting will be going like the usual tournaments; round 1, round 2, round 3. etc. etc. till quarterfinal, half final and the final. But instead of one match a time we'll be doing all the matches at a time. So it will be looking like this. 1. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back - Raiders of the Lost Ark 2. Raging Bull - Ghostbusters 3. Blade Runner - The Thing etc. etc. The movie you think is better will be bolded, so it will be looking like this: 1. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back - Raiders of the Lost Ark 2. Raging Bull - Ghostbusters 3. Blade Runner - The Thing etc. etc.. Alright, let's get started then. You're allowed to nominate any movie released between 1980 and 1984. So if you got a movie that says 1985 according to IMDB it can't be nominated in this tournament. Therefore be sure to check IMDB for year of release and leave the year of release after the title of the movie you nominate, so I don't have to look up everything. You're also allowed to nominate as many movies as you like. And remember, only nominate movies you have seen, or planning to see soon. It's not cool to go of every year on IMDB and nominate all the movies that are there. To participate in this tournament you shall be posting in the normal font colour and normal font size. Otherwise your replies will be too hard to read and will be ignored. Let the nominating begin! Nominations can be done till sunday the 26th of february. RESULTS ROUND ONE! 1. Airplane (1980) 10 vs. The Fog (1980) 1 2. E.T. (1982) 12 vs. The Elephant Man (1980) 1 3. Scarface (1983) 12 vs. Paris, Texas (1984) 1 4. Or would they go for the movies that aimed for more than just entertainment. We will soon find out! Have fun! April 15, 200620 yr Author Star Wars Ep. IV is an amazing movie, but for me it doesn't beat: Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
April 15, 200620 yr The obvious choice, by a huge margin (though I own both). Star Wars Ep. V The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
April 15, 200620 yr Author I just noticed I was mistaken, I put Ep. IV while it needed to be Ep. V For the finals, but I just edited to avoid further confusion. Putter, which is the obvious choise? Empire strikes back over return of the jedi, or empire strikes back over blade runner? Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
April 16, 200620 yr Author Both, but in this case, I was refering to Empire Strikes back over Bladerunner. May I ask why it is so obvious? :) Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
April 17, 200620 yr Blade Runner. Your true character is what you are like when you believe there are no repercussions.

Oh wow, don't try and sway the votes or anything. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
April 17, 200620 yr As a cyberpunk geek I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror if I'm not supporting Blade Runner :) My Tip.It Times Articles (10 and counting) || The Varrock Library Author Index projectDo you dare to dream? - Part 19 added. || The Hospital (WIP) - New story!Necromagus looks like a viking ... with glasses.

Oh wow, don't try and sway the votes or anything. I don't, it's just true that the 80's and 90's got dominated by the more easy movies, think of the action-comedy etc. of course there were a few exceptions, but most of it was pretty easy going. :P It's nothing to be ashamed about or something, it was part of the entire thing back then. You can see a big difference now, compared to 80's and 90's as everybody is starting to make these 'movies that matter'. April 19, 200620 yr It has to be Blade Runner for me. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)
April 24, 200620 yr Possibly one of the greatest Movies of all time, 2nd, in my opinion, to The Breakfast Club.
