July 9, 200818 yr Previously: Dmitri Shostakovich - String Quartet No. 8 in C Minor, Op. 110 Currently: Dmitri Shostakovich - String Quartet No. 9 in E Flat Major, Op. 117 A few years ago, my mum bought me this set of 6 discs which was the Brodsky Quartet playing all of the Shostakovich string quartets. Words can not express how much joy those CDs have brought me. :) Cool.
July 9, 200818 yr Intriguing, Shostakovich is indeed amazing. He's up there with Schoenberg and Stockhausen on my list of favourite 20th century composers. Truly a revolutionary musical period, and one that people who are too obsessed with melody dismiss as 'terrible'. Dark Moor - Cyrano of Bergerac Still trying to get into them. I much prefer their current vocalist to Elisa. Sounds like a poor man's Roy Khan, if you will. Steam | Soup | Last.fm

July 9, 200818 yr Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you."

Nice to know there's another fan on here. :) To be honest, I don't know a great deal of 20th Century composers. The majority of the classical music I know of comes from what I play on the violin, so I don't know much past the mid-19th and early-20th century. But Shostakovich remains my favourite classical composer. :) Speaking of which, I'm still listening to the same stuff I was last night: Dmitri Shostakovich - String Quartet No. 8 in C Minor, Op. 110 Cool.
