Currently: Igor Stravinsky - Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring)

"Intense" is one way to put it..

The Firebird Suite is my favorite by him. One of the best Drum and Bugle Corps adaptations as well.

Ooh, thanks, I'll check it out. I probably have heard it, and will remember it when I hear it again.

Currently: Edouard Lalo - Symphonie Espagnole in D Minor, Op. 21

Performed by Arthur Grumiaux as the soloist--absolutely amazing. One day I'll learn it... one day..

Cool.

Intriguing, Shostakovich is indeed amazing. He's up there with Schoenberg and Stockhausen on my list of favourite 20th century composers. Truly a revolutionary musical period, and one that people who are too obsessed with melody dismiss as 'terrible'.

Nice to know there's another fan on here. :)

To be honest, I don't know a great deal of 20th Century composers. The majority of the classical music I know of comes from what I play on the violin, so I don't know much past the mid-19th and early-20th century. But Shostakovich remains my favourite classical composer. :)

Hehe, I've loved Shostakovich since I started listening to music, in fact, my first exposure to music of any kind was through my grandma's classical cassettes on car journeys. :D And it still remains one of my favourite genres as of today, and I love any music with classical elements in it (be it symphonic, progressive or anything).

I've come across a few really obscure 20th century composers when trying to build up some kind of repertoire for bass trombone (not easy, it never was and never will be an acceptable solo instrument) and some of them are really forgettable. :P However, you find the odd gem amongst the bad, and I was so sick of playing transcribed music for b. tb. that I was willing to just play anything that sounded interesting for once rather than some cello sonata that had been rewritten. (although the Bach cello suites do sound awfully good on trombone)

Anyway,

Kamelot - Millennium

Khan is awesome.

Animus- 03 Untitled

In a very black metal-ish mood today...

Can't say I've gotten into anything else by them, but that is a fantastic song.

As for me..

Ornette Coleman - Fuzz, Feast, Breakout, European Echoes, Alone, And The Arrest (From his 1965 album Who's Crazy.)

Cool.
