You need to hook me up with some Black metal and/or Ambient stuff :P , my playlist is pitiful when it comes to that.

Good dark ambient:

Aäkon Këëtrëh, Moëvöt, Diagnose: Lebensgefahr, and recently Elffor. That's about all I listen to.

Good black metal (none of these are "pure" black metal):

Anaal Nathrakh, Blut aus Nord, Shining, Silencer, Judas Iscariot, Life is Pain, Make a Change... Kill Yourself, and check out Dictius te Necare by Bethlehem.

Not sure if you'll like any of them, but if you do, say which ones and I'll point you in the direction of a bit more like it.

Right now: Tool - Ticks & Leeches

I'm trying to get out of the habit of listening to lone songs instead of full albums. But I'm not in the mood for a full Tool album, and I love this song. :)

Cool.

Likewise. Listening to...

Darkthrone- Transilvanian Hunger Album

Just finished listening to Zakk Wyldes demo stuff too if that counts. :P

Korpiklaani - Northern Fall

I've been getting into folk metal and I have to say that combining folk music and metal can produce some pretty good results. However, some songs are really, really terrible. :P

lustmord and Raison d'être are two prime dark ambient bands

lots of berlin school: tangerine dream, klaus schulze and such do good for ambient alternatives.

@silversword: indeed, i only stick to like 1 "folk metal" band in general and its viking metal actually.

Tangerine Dream - Phaedra

I might check them out myself as well. :)

And something I've been meaning to ask you: I know you're into Krautrock (if that's what it's called?). If it's not too much hassle, could you point me in the direction of some good artists in that genre? I know of Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk, but haven't actually checked them out yet.

Right now: Boards of Canada - Sixtyten

Not too impressive..

Into: of Montreal - The Sunlandic Twins (album)

Even better than Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?.

Cool.

What makes me laugh is people labelling Finnish bands as 'Viking metal'. There were no Vikings in Finland, not to my knowledge anyway.

Finntroll - Svartberg

Overrated, yes. But enjoyable.

Right now: Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass (album)

Only a few tracks into it, but it's sounding pretty good so far. The majority of the beats are fairly average, but he's got fantastic flow.

Later: Buck 65 - Situation

I really like this album. Really.

I'm kind of in the mood for Hip-Hop at the moment. :)

Cool.

We Takin Over - DJ Khaled ft TI, Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Birdman and Lil Wayne and Akon

Indeed, Lustmord and B. Rich's Stalker is the best dark ambient record, ever imo.

Yeah, a thing to know about Krautrock is that it's more of a era indicator than anything. There's no real general sound, but, it's usually really experimental. It's also split into 2 parts: Electronic and the more psych stuff.

Electronic

Tangerine Dream

Klaus Schulze

Kraftwerk

Cluster

Kluster (lol im serious)

Neu!

Rockish stuff

Can (Future Days is more electronic though)

Amon Düül

Amon Düül II

Popol Vuh

Ash Ra Tempel

La Düsseldorf

Agitation Free

Guru Guru

Pyramid (make sure you get the german one)

Ratio is unbalanced, for every good 1 rockish album, there's like 3 good electronic ones, rofl.

Another thing worth checking out is zeuhl (more experimental rock fare). It has like 3 bands that I've heard that are pretty good: Magma, Ruins and Koenjihyakkei.

What makes me laugh is people labelling Finnish bands as 'Viking metal'. There were no Vikings in Finland, not to my knowledge anyway.

Finntroll - Svartberg

I've blown people's minds with that little fact. It's great too.

np: Inquisition - unholy magic attack
