Nintendo Revolution's Name Revealed

Featured Replies

Now everyone will forever be confused how it's pronounced, and forever wonder why oh why did they pick "wii" over "Revolution". Maybe that's all part of some obscure marketing scheme to get more people to know/buy it..

Don't you guys remember Nintendo Dolphin? You were angry/this stubborn when they came out with the actual name being Nintendo 64?

I heard Dolphin as the code name for the Game Cube...or was I completely wrong?

I think it was star or something, would have to check wikipedia to be sure though :P

I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.

I like it also, very interesting. And I would be very willing to play old games that I've loved as a kid. Cause those systems were so hard to play with. You had to constantly blow in the carts and sometimes wiggle them around in the slot.

A marketing spokesman said that criticism was not unexpected, given Wii's uniqueness. I for one will look forward to Nintendo's number follow up portable console f-ART, which will mimic the design of the artistic Apple.

You've got to be freakin' kiddin' me?

Well, I guess everyone was going to keep on calling it the Revoltion anyway, so they may as well make the alternative name as...well...alternative as you can get :P

Rick, Miyamoto has already set Twilight Princess as the final game for the GameCube.

It's also coming out for the Revolution, it'll make use of the new controller too.

I hate its new name, and refuse to call the 'Nintendo Wii'. Seems like everyone else hates it too, so maybe they'll have a rethink.

Well the internet exploded yesterday on account of the Wii announcement. I don't think anyone expected them to announce the name before E3, but their reason for doing so makes sense. Now we get all of the stupid puns and griping out of the way now, so E3's focus will be on the actual games and system.

I had people sending me links to an online petition to get the name changed back to Revolution. Gimme a break. First of all, if you think any actual corporation takes an online petition seriously, I've got a bridge to sell you. Second, it's just a name. Get over it. It sounds silly? Yeah, well what the * is a "google"? That's what I thought.

(Update: So you can stop emailing me, a "googol" is the term for the very large number. A google is nothing. They are not the same thing.)

Like the name or not, every single tech related webpage, blog, or forum was talking about the Wii yesterday. You can't buy that kind of media exposure. And Nintendo got it for free yesterday. The little poem they wrote explaining the meaning of Wii might have been a bit cheesy, but A++ in Business 101 for Nintendo.

Personally the name has grown on me. Visually I like it. I haven't actually had to say "Nintendo Wii" out loud in conversation yet, so we'll see how that goes. But when it comes down to it, what the hell do I care what they name their system? I just want to play the video games.

I agree with them

no, you're right, I just got them confused :?

just checked-N64's code name was Project Reality O.o

Too much complaining about names anyway,

sony didn't put as much effort in their name with "play station".

Also I think "Xbox" is a horrible name.

Too many generic videogame system names. It gets too boring.

It's gonna be great!

Hey ma, can I play with mah Wiiiiii?

Sure son!

YAY!

I'd say it's a stupid name. Probably won't affect sales much though, I don't think.

But is the Ee sound even in the Japanese language? I think I read somewhere that it wasn't. Dunno though.

It really has

The entire point of the name is that its global Alex. I'm pretty sure, Nintendo being japanese and all, that they can pronounce their own console name.

I like the name and it's better than the other console names, including Revolution (way too pretentious). Nintendo is great, and I actually look forward to buying a console again. Go nintendo!

Good call. And remember, it's not about you or me. It's about WII!!!

And together, Wii will change everything

Thats pretty corny

It's a billion times better than the Microsoft presentation at last year's Game Developers Conference unveiling the XBox 360. "Surferchick99!"

I love the new name, but I'll probably call it a Revolution in conversation. Not that Wii is bad, but I might confused friends/parents when using it in a sentence.

LOL! Classic!

Finally... Nintendo endorses me playing with my wee. I knew it would happen.

I can't wait to get a wii. I'm going to pool money with friends and get one for next year. We'll basically be neighbors, so we might as well get Super Smash Bros.

Forget the name. Who cares? :P
