Death / Thrash / Origional Metal Bands

Amen

I fail to see how Arch Enemy fits in any of genres mentioned on thread title. :|

Melodic "death" is not Death metal, AE is certainly not thrash and lacks of originality. The bits I've heard from their debut are good, but I can't really recommend any other albums than Black Earth. To me they are just another one hit wonder.

I went watching Arch Enemy last December sor the sole reason that Strapping Young Lad were supporting. They are awful. The drummer even tried to impress the crowd to a ridiculous solo that bored me to death. The only good part was that I was stood right at the back and Gene Hoglan walked in and stood next to me, so I should his hand and told him he rules.

Since WHEN were Arch Enemy Melodic Death? Wages of Sin, Doomsday Machine, and Anthems of Rebellion are all great albums.

Although I would agre that Arch is not one of the formentioned genres.

Try downloading some Satryicon or immortal

Current Goals

80/80 Fletching

60/75 Woodcutting

97/100 Combat

Immortal = pwn. Get Sons of northern darkness, at the heart of winter and damned in black.

Devil Driver - Awesome name, awesome lyrics, awesome intros (End Of The Line is a blast!)

I only read the first page so pardon me if I missed someone already suggesting these.

For thrash: Overkill, eXodus, Am I Blood, Horrorscope (best modern thrash band IMO), Annihilator, Anthrax, Stormtroopers of Death, Carnal Forge, Destruction, Flotsam & Jetsam (should be a requirement for any good thrash collection), Kreator (saw that you already have some of these guys, great pickup got to see them in concert a few months ago fantastic show), Mercyful Fate/King Diamond (I personaly prefer his solo stuff, but both are great), Sodom, Testament, Heathen, Rumpelstiltskin Grinder (in the vain of SOD, awesome).

For death metal you seem to have a pretty good selection of the euro stuff, but you really need to come back to wear the scene started... Florida (most of south east US has a good history of decent dm bands eg Dying Fetus, Arsis, etc).

Death, Atheist, Suffocation, Cynic (Don't bother with these guys if you can't get into early 90s Death, jazz fusion based death), Deicide, etc.

Best DM scene right now IMO is in Quebec, with such genre staples as Cryptopsy, Quo Vadis and Kataklysm.

Folk/Viking bands I really dig: Windir, Thyrfing, Finntroll (first two albums are fantastic, 3rd is super catchy but just not as awesome), Adorned Brood, Storm, Asmegin, Cruachan, Equilibrium, Falkenbach.

Various other great bands to look into: Die Apokalyptischen Reiter, Dethronement, Entombed, Godgory, Gorod, High on Fire, Hypocrisy, Immortal, Burzum (I really like his dark ambiant stuff from his prison era), Taake, Bathory.

I could go on and on, Winamp claims I own 1143 albums most of which are some form metal. If you want an extremely specific suggestion even in a sub sub genre feel free to send me a message.

Edit: To weigh in on the AE debate... they are a melodic death band. http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=10 and could have been considered a thrash band in the days of Johan. But they had to kick him out for some half-assed female vocalist. If you want to hear a really good female death vocalist go listen to Shadow from Japan. That girl can't weigh more then 100lbs and she growls with the best of them.

Some peolple don't like math, you tell people those people not to look in their math book or not to go to math classes?

Maybe I could learn something from it? I work at a record store, so it's nice to know certain bands in certain genres, and what they sound like, so I can inform my customers when they ask about it.

Maybe you could tell me what's so great about death metal, instead of just saying I should go away.

It's about opinion, listen to it yourself don't take other people's word for it (who clearly do like it).

Why does every single post that you make correct someone else?

Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so.

killswitch engage isnt death or black metal. Opeth and in flames aren't new. But they do rock.

Why don't you ever tell something new? Like I'm a complete idiot. I just want to know what he thinks is so great about it. Christ, haven't you got something better to do. :?

If you ask here whether metal is good, it's like going to a star wars fan base and asking if star wars is good.

I wasn't asking weither it's good or not. I was wondering WHAT people think is good about it. And I was looking what bands people liked.
