hazardmaster
School speech time..I have to do a speech to convince people about something. I chose to convince my class why is it good have to do speeches. Help me out? Just think of any positive things about doing a speech and post here. Or you could think of the bad things about doing a speech, then turn it around to make it positive. Help appreciated :)

Faux
Agreed. I had to stutter and sweat my way thru countless speecches, why shouldn't you? As much as I hate saying it, I kinda wish I had done more speeches. Same. I wished I worked more on my past speeches as well. Those things were just one night job and I usually stutter like crazy cause I didn't practice. :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::
greenslime89
Heh, I had to do a talk in english class but kept being of at my physiotherapy (broken heel, Just don't ask) when I was supposed to do it. Eventually my english teacher gave up and let me do it at lunchtime infront of her only :D (I PASSED) Photos!
knives669
I don't mind doing speeches at all. I just get a little nervous beforehand if I think about it too much. Though I have no proof, I would have to agree that the majority of the people I know, hate to do them. I've never known anyone to walk into class and say, "Alright! We're doing speeches today! This is the best day of my life!", but it's simply something that you just have to get over. I'm just curious, and I ask this not to start an arguement, or a flame war. But, I'd like to know how making speeches in school helps you in the future. Can someone explain that to me?
____
Ever come across a career job where you never have to stand up a give a talk, of any length on any topic, to complete strangers? If you have I'd really like to hear about it.
Vape
-The vast majority of the human race despise them The more you practice, the better you get. It's like your times tables. Back when you were 7 or so you probably thought they were useless. Imagine trying to do any maths now without knowing them. -To be honest, the class hardly listens to you ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅYou may not even be listening to be now!̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâà Where the bloody hell are you? Bubsa
Being good at speeches will get you the job, any job, over someone who is inferior but with the same C.V. (that or a good rack), despite what the exception to the rule, Mr. Bush, would have you believe. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you. vladmoney
It seems you are pretty much giving a speech about your opinion on speeches. Visit my DeviantArt Page at http://vladmoney.deviantart.com
Adam007
Get a new topic. It seems inevitably your argument will be filled with fallacies or unbacked sayings, and frankly, the ability to give public speeches is very important to have, and speeches just plain and simply aren't unimportant. You're setting yourself up for a hard time on this topic.
bjbj1991
As much as I hate having to do speaches, I still feel that they are inportant in society. Look at Hitler, he was nuts but because he could speek german he got millions of people to follow him to their deaths, that takes devotion! The only way a person is gona become president if he cant talk is if he is vise president and someone kills the president! You know how sells men go 'BUY THIS! YOU NEED IT!!' and you buy it and it is worthless, well knowing how to give speachs can make you into one of the lower forms of human race called sellsmen. Erm...I wouldn't say it was just because he could speak German, but I agree with the point your making. He was a fantastic public speaker, and he would have needed to be to make those people believe those God awful things. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you. indy500fan
public speaking is one of the most important things for you have to do later in life. you may not learn the stuff in english class, but you learn a ton of it if you take a speech class. i went from not being to good at speeches at the begining of last semester to being able to fairly decently by this point. and it doesnt just help you give speeches, it helps you be more confident in all social points of life. MyPurpleCrayon
I love speeches, Public Speaking is one of my strengths though. :P Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so.

It helps with your confidence levels, which has been shown to help get you a better job(I don't have the source for this, I read it in an essay written about cheating by a college student, it's in a book). weezcake
I think you should do your speech on why you SHOULD do speeches. It's important later on in life. 'm just curious, and I ask this not to start an arguement, or a flame war. But, I'd like to know how making speeches in school helps you in the future. Can someone explain that to me? Well, school is where most people do their learning. You probably won't be making any speeches anywhere else while you're young. Okay, imagine you're a scientist. Your speech skills are horrible. How are you going to tell your fellow scientists about your research? How are you going to convince potential sponsors to help fund your project? Communication is probably one of the most important skills you'll ever need-- as bjbj1991 said, Hitler was not the most attractive of people, but he had great communication skills and used them to control the country. ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring. weezcake
I was never really comfortable with public speaking -- in the 10th grade, I remember basically stumbling over my words. I'd pause every few words, look down at my index card, and just wanted it to be done with. I'm much better with it now -- I can deliver a speech without much problem (though my tone and expression needs some work!). It's helped me with speaking to people 1on1 also :) ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring.
knives669
That's really cool. I am looking forward to learning about communication. Stuff like body language and tone... And I can usually give a speech with no problem at all. But, I do get pretty nervous about it sometimes.
nvw08
I might be going out on a limb here but.. Read Henry V by Shakespeare and look at some of the speeches king Henery gives, then look at the French King, He never even delivers a speech to his soldiers, only to his Dukes and all. Then compare the two characters, the English King looks like an all around better guy, a good people person. Then, partly due to the fact that the French King can't deliever a pep talk for life, he looks like an idiot... This may not be the best example, but it's the best I can think up of right now :P Public speaking IS importnt, it is good both for your self image and getting a good job later in life ^_^ Droolman's item Guide | My RuneScape pictures | My barrows videos, with download link!Free Image Hosting! | Free File Hosting! hazardmaster
I think you should do your speech on why you SHOULD do speeches. It's important later on in life. I considered that and changed it. Thanks :) After all, there are many more good points to doing them.

Random
a nice way to practice delivering a speech is to do it in front of a mirror.
