I don't know, can anyone tell me what a 94% average is (in grade 9), in terms of a gpa? I'd like to know..as I have noooo idea! :?

Eh, you can't really translate a single grade average into GPA. Do you have different grades for different subjects or do they just give you a single grade for the year.

I have a 3.66 cumulative. I got home at 6:30 every schoolday and did the vast majority of my homework at lunch and got away with it. I'm good at doing work quickly and accurately, ie I can write a one-page essay in 20 minutes. If I tried hard and had no life then I could certainly attain a 4, and my parents always seem upset when I don't bring home straight As, but then again if I succeed in school then I fail in life; if you think about it, everything you do in life is motivated by the fact that you want to feel good. YOu work to get money to buy things that bring you comfort and happiness. When you give things to people it makes you feel good. You go to school so you can get that good job. But if you don't have fun on the way to getting the job then you missed out on one of the fundamental parts of your childhood, and you defeated the purpose of living. It seems that some people simply cannot come to terms with that fact.

Of course next year I'm taking two especially "difficult" classes that are essentially things that we've already learned to some extent but over again and with much more busywork, and if we're lucky some new material.

As for competing with foreign nations, I'd say that if need be I could "compete," I don't get the best grades but I certainly know what's going on. That's another thing that crushes me - more often than not I can infer and figure things out that I don't understand in class, as opposed to the clueless person who asks the teacher about everything and their pet cat. Then the clueless person makes up for their inadequacy by doing the homework to the maximum and extra credit without asking the teacher first. The teacher then gets suckered into thinking this person is a "star student" and despite the fact that they may fail every other test and scrape a 70 in the others they always end up getting an A due to the fact that they work really hard to compensate for their lack of ability.

It seems that the opposite is true in other countries, and if I had to school there then I'd fit right with that modus operandi.

Heh, my Average in grade 9 was 94%, of course they give me different grades for different subjects! I can't remember my marks then, but this year I had...

Math: 92%

Physics: 95%

Music: 97%

Computer Science: 96%

Business Technologies: 97%

English: 92%

Chemistry: 91%

So...anyone? What's my GPA? :? If you need "alphabetized" grade letters, I suppose it's just straight A+'s for every course. :lol:

My school does some weird thing where they weight honors and AP class so that an A is a 5.0, a B is a 4.0, ect.

My freshman GPA was a 4.5something when it was weighted. Unweighted, it was a 4.0.

Woah, I never knew Tip.It had that sig. I'll keep it since it's cool (and to make people wonder what was in my sig).

I think pretty much every school does that. Lots of people on this thread have talked about their "weighted" and "unweighted" GPA's.

I got 3 A's and 4 B's, A's in all my non-honors classes and B's in all my honors :P SO like a 3.45 or something like that :roll:

I stayed around 3.7 gpa in eight grade I would have gotton 4.0 if I didn't take honors classes.

Is it true that in highschool an A in an honors class can count as a 5.0? if so, I'll be lucking since over half my classes are honors. (Even though I already regret taking them)

You're in high school and they don't give you a weighted average? Never heard of that.

Not in my school, honors you get more work but it says honors on your transcript, so it's suppose to make you look good. AP classes give you an extra .5 gpa added to that grade, so the highest theoretical gpa you could get is a 4.5(impossible, there arn't 28 AP classes that you can take unless you somehow start out with AP Bio, Chem, Calc etc)

Usually, APs give you 1 point higher for your GPA (A=5, B=4). Honors credit really depends on your school -- mine gave extra weights on honors classes in the 11th grade, but not the others.

I really don't see why APs have more weight on them. Sure they're a bit harder, but they're not THAT much harder. :roll:

Yeah. I don't understand the point of it because most colleges I looked at didn't even want to see my weighted GPA.

You'd have a 4.0.

Apparently from what everyone is saying, I guess not. AP courses and such...who knows.

We have these course levels:

Everyday Life

College

College/University

University

Say I took all "AP" courses, my gpa would only be 4.0? Many people on this thread are saying over that....and people saying they have C's and B's are saying they have a 3.8Gpa...yet with my marks I'd only have 4.0? Something isn't right....perhaps its just not really possible to compare percentages to a gpa? :?

Anyone know?

a 94% at my school is an A(boarderline)

and if you are having an unweighted gpa(APs etc don't give you the extra part)

Math: 92% ->B+

Physics: 95% -> A

Music: 97% -> A

Computer Science: 96% -> A

Business Technologies: 97% ->A

English: 92% -> B+

Chemistry: 91% -> B+

those grades give you a 3.78 by my county's grading standard(which is harder than most others)

colleges do not really care about weighted gpa's. although AP is standard. the thing that brought me down is "adevanced and intensified" courses just bring you down colledges will just go pfft so they took advanced. well i think your best bet is to take regular classes and kick thier [wagon]. only reason imo to take anything higher is if you are gonna be boored if you take the regular. well i am going to take regular next year prob easy 4.0 or 3.5. i have intensified chemistry.

Although colleges might not care that much about weighted GPAs, those affect your class rank, which the colleges do care about. So yeah.

And sometimes, the honors classes are actually easier than the regular ones. I know that in my school, honors english is generally considered easier for grades 9-11. And Calculus BC is an easier math class than some of the alternatives, because the teacher is so good.

Highschool's here doesn't use the GPA system. Back in grades 9/10 I had horrible marks, 60's and 70's. I never bothered with the work because it really didn't matter. As long as I passed my classes I could still get into the University prep courses in grades 11/12.

Once my last two years came around I put forth some effort and got by with straight 90's. Just finished my first year of post-secondary with a 4.6 GPA which translates to an 86% average.

Don't worry about your grades in year 9/10. Heck, your 11/12 grades aren't that important either. If you can get into a community college and get a diploma from them you can apply for university transfer credits and get a degree.

I know the price. I pay it gladly.

Wow, so compared to some people on this thread, I'm an idiot eh?! I have the top percent average in my highschool of about 1000 students...you guys must be geniuses!

I'd say in Canada an "A" is from like..85%. :?:

I suppose it's just to different to compare...either that, or I'm stupid! I refuse to believe the latter...so..yeah. :-s

EDIT: Vov...you say 4.6GPA = 86% Average? This doesn't make sense. It sounds like different areas give different GPA's...which is completely pointless. How the heck do Colleges/Universities determine who to accept, if someone from some noname area has like a 5.0 gpa, but in reality would have marks lower than that of a 3.7 in another area?! Wth? :wall:

They do, some counties have A's going down to a 90/91, which would give you a 4.0
