Why don't people spend more on jewelry?

Featured Replies

I think of it like this:

If you can spend $30-$50 on a meal that lasts but one hour or so, why can't you spend a few thousand dollars on something such as jewelry that lasts for your life? Why do so many men cheap out on their wives, i mean, i think you can spend a few thousand dollars on her since most people die with like 200k+ in their bank, which is just handed to their children and then they dont even use it, and it just keeps getting passed down, so why not use your money while you have it? people are constantly trying to save when no matter what they always seem to come to an end with more than they need.

My recent achievement ^_^

There's better things to spend your money on.... :-k :-k

because you might need it. an emergency, bad times, something. and why would you spend so much mone on jewelry? honestly, if i would be married and my husband gives me a 20k necklace as a gift (and we would have an average income) i would tell him to bring it back.

we could travel or save for a new car, but a necklace?

I can not see why I'd have to buy jewelry. Sure, it may last you forever, but so does investing it into education, something work-related, or a retiremend fund. I don't need a $200(0) watch if a $20 tells me the time too. As a student of archaeology, I don't see how buying jewelry would help me with my career, and I'm not really the type to hang out with people who judge on that sort of stuff. Very few people die with $200k in their bank as you claim. The reason I don't run out to the store and spend the money on my savings account is because I might need it some day. If I had a wife, the ring on her finger wouldn't be a symbol for how much I can afford, but for how much I love her.

I don't know why but I just can't see spending thousands of dollars on jewelry. Maybe for a very special day or something, but I know I wouldn't just go out and buy a $5000 ring for my wife. Like Katha said, you could save for a new car, travel, ect. (Hell, if I was a girl, I'd rather go somewhere special than have a $5000 piece of jewelry.)

Because jewelery is useless. A real diamond isn't any prettier than a fake one, so why should it cost so much more?

I hope that when I (hopefully) get proposed to, he gives me one of those 25 cent plastic rings from a little machine :D

And then we can spend more money a truly delicious and enjoyable meal :P

Everybody hug and spread the love :D

A few thousand dollars for an accessory? I would rather spend ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã1000 on a holiday away together or getting her a useful gift rather than just buying something thats only purpose is to look expensive. A ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã100 piece of jewelry will please a girl as much as a ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã1000 piece until they find out it only cost ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã100.

Everybody lovin' it, but ain't no body touchin' it

What value does jewellery have other than that which companies have assigned to it? It's just a status symbol.

Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

haha. well, some girls, but in the end if you get her something that comes from your heart, the price doesnt matter.

or if it shows that you listened and pay attention.

One time I was chewing on my necklace (just a cheap one, because it usually breaks if I get in a fight with my bro) and I almost swallowed it  Oh, and don't bother asking why I was chewing on it.. I do a lot of wierd things

You can spend the money on much better things than Jewelry. Is it really that hard to figure out why people save money intead of spending their extra money on jewelry?

Also, it's stupid to not save up and spend all your money as you use it.

You never know when you might need the money for something important, i.e. a life-saving hospital operation. Or if you save up, you might be able to buy something even better... like a house. :\

Same with clothes. I like to tell people that the clothes I'm wearing cost about 3 times more than they actually were. No one can tell the difference, even the fashion 'experts'. Then they tell me how nice my clothes are. People are idiots :)

For it is the greyness of dusk that reigns.

The time when the living and the dead exist as one.

A load of my (girl) friends often comment on how cheap their nice clothes were -- which I think I find more reasonable than talking about how expensive they were.

I say jewelry as to symbolize other things as well, its just that jewelry was on my mind at the moment (I'd rather take a Ferrari ::').

I say jewelry as to symbolize other things as well, its just that jewelry was on my mind at the moment (I'd rather take a Ferrari ::'). And yes, a lot of people to die with money in their bank, so you might as well use it.

If you use up all your money, then you leave your family to pay for you medical bills, funeral, ect. If you have money in your bank and leave it to close family then they can use that to pay for the debt you left.

First rule to guy shopping is we try to buy stuff we can enjoy too. Like pantie hose or bras.

This is the way the world ends. Look at this [bleep]ing shit we're in man. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. And with a whimper, I'm splitting, Jack.

Why do people like to show off with their money so badly? I find jewelry one of the worst things you can do to your body, next to tattoos and piercings, which basically is jewelry as well.

I don't even like wearing a watch, the only jewelry-alike thing I ever wore was a nearly invisible necklace with a sign of my youth club on it. My girlfriend also dislikes it; she has a few sets of earrings and a few bracelets, but that's all. And none of them are gold, most of them are plastic or silver. It's a waste of money, really.

Her bracelets and necklaces are things like

But not one of those ugly golden things covered with gems.

I do want a ring for when I get married... But not one that costs thousands of dollars. :P I think it's stupid to spend so much money that could be invested into other things on something so small.
