Skills are pointless. You will never make as much money chopping a tree as you would merchanting, or killing a boss monster.

IF one person did a skill for x ammount of time, and then killed boss monsters like kq, dag kings, etc or even barrowed for the same ammount of time. You would always come out on top with the non skill.

You only need levels in useless skills for quests and to do stuff that you just dont want to shell out a few gold to get done 10x faster.

Spend an hour fishing 200 shark or spend an hour making like 500k an hour and just buying 200.. hmmm i wonder.

i try and balance between the two. its useful to have a decent sum of money, but skills are important too...

EDIT:ever tried nat crafting through the abbys?^^

I'm not drunk! You wouldn't dare call me drunk if i was sober!

at first i misunderstood the topic. i thought it was asking if i use my skills to make $ or not.

but i use my skills to make me $ thats all. i dont set out to make $ but i do set out to get lvls often.

so skills for me. skills cant be taken away from me, if i lost all my items and i was a member i could easily make back some $. first by pick pocketing knights for $ to buy a rune axe then cut magic logs and fletch them into bows...

yes you would go in skills as people who go for money would be say stakers, pkers, merchanters or people who when they set out for skills are there purely for profit

Skills.

I only have 96k atm.

skills... no hacker can take that away.

Definitly skills, i rather work hard for my money and have fun. then standing on a market, "selling full rune" for hours and earning 10k and not have fun.

lol one of the biggest pvp updates of the year, and tip it is discussing granite

my skills are way important to me. i have put a lot of time into them and i can make decent money off of some of them. my main money maker right now is selling cooked sharks that i fish and cook myself. that is how i made the money for my dragon skirt. ::'

i dont think i would ever make a good merchanter because i am usually not up to date on the worth of most of the things that are merchanted and i dont really kill any of the monster that drop things that are worth a huge amount of gp. the only thing like that i kill is the bronze dragons and that is only when i get them for slayer. :P

That's what monkeys used to say about us.

i use skills to get money, and use that money to get different skills or help getting equipment to skills

you read my mind :) whats the point of money without leveling skills? leveling skills is the whole point of this game we call runescape 8-)

Well, mostly through skills, if slayer drops count as a skill.. But I always spend everything back on my skills, I don't buy any stupid rares as I think they are pointless.

99 Slayer since August 2007.

skills... no hacker can take that away.

Indeed. I concur with Bashful

skills i use my money that i have to buy supplies to raise my skills which in turn make me money to fund the skills.... if that makes sense to anyone.. I mainly like noncombat skills for some reason

15 skills 90+ - 10 skills 99 - 200m+ total exp

In my opinion, skills are better than merchanting, mainly because i'm a very bad merchant...

And also the fact (as said above) that skills cannot be taken away...

Currently playing on War of Legends (Royal Gardens)

To everyone that said skills are better because they cant be taken away, if your smart enough to get "hacked" as everyone calls it when its just them being dumb, then you deserve to lose it all.

Also, skills are needed, but they shouldnt be your only way to make money. Maybe in RSC thats all you could do. But now the game is so much bigger and better, way easier to get a 5million gold drop at a boss monster than to cut 5k magics or fish 5k shark

I don't really care about money, but I need it to train skills efficiently. So I try to get a good balance between the two.

True, but IF a hacker wants your account, he WILL get it. So if you held your attitude, you would be the one at the greatest loss here because all your cash is in GP, not in Skills.

Way easier maybe, but that is COMBAT level dependent, but Fishing Sharks and Cutting magic logs are NOT. Boss monsters are also way too luck dependent, where as skills are not.

Skills. You get a steady stream of money instead of risking it with merchanting.

Vppunkrocker.png

A bit of both accualy for some skills you need money (construction costed me allot and im only lvl 38 in that) But certain skills you do (fishing then cooking) can earn you money while you only wanted to train it. (even though do I set goals when I say fish and cook lobs) It just adds a bit of fun when you get both money and xp while your doing skill.

believe me if you catch 4000 cooked lobbys like I do you can make allot of money (800k).

Short answer: I do a bit of both if I see a good deal ill go for it (like full rune for 150k and sell for 200k just to name something)

Runescape ingame name: Rmond (on the forum this name was already taken)
