September 14, 200619 yr john mclaughlin! john mclaughlin! he's my favorite guitarist! :3> youtube him! youtube him! that guy is a magnificent guitarist, the only thing I can criticise is his electric tone
September 14, 200619 yr Jimi Hendrix is the best IMO. Basically he invented so much more ways to make sound with guitar (listen to star spangled banner for example). Alexi laiho is the fastest I know. at least he has a guinnes world record with fastest guitar playing if I remember right...(quite wicked IMO). September 14, 200619 yr Come on people its obviously Michael Angle Batio (sp) the first ever guitarist to play a 4 neck guitar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMv74rICf1I (4 neck) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPcyAOLflO4 (2 neck)
September 14, 200619 yr kirk hammet is by far the best if you dont beleive me listen to seek and destroy LONG LIVE METALLICA!!! One of the most overrated guitarists ever, in my opinion. James' solos are better, he's got very sloppy chops... and christ, someone remove that wah-pedal from his pedalboard. He's a good guitarist, but FAR from the best. But then again, looking at my list, I would only claim one or two of those to be among the "best ever". I just posted a few of my favourites.
September 14, 200619 yr I could honestly care less about speed, the only thing that makes an actual good guitarist is the ability to actually put together a good part/solo instead of just playing a bunch of notes really fast/in no order. I'd much have a solo that goes with the theme of the song instead of a really fast one that has nothing to do with the rest of the song. I won't say who I think is the best guitarist, as i will most likely get criticized for it. "El que no arriesga no gana"
September 14, 200619 yr This should be "whos your favorite guitarist" Because noone will agree with each other. Alexi gets my vote Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King....
September 14, 200619 yr 100% agreed with azvy. i hate kirk hammet..hes nto innovative at all. He did great things for metal guitar in the 80's. Most solos from albums like Ride, Master and Justice are pretty great, and very influential in terms of how metal guitarists play now. He's definately not the greatest guitarist about, but the guy was a big player in his time and I think he gets way more criticism than he deserves. My list of favourite players would be Ritchie Blackmore, Matt Bellamy, Adam Jones, John Petrucci, John Butler, David Gilmour and John Squire. La lune ne garde aucune rancune.
September 14, 200619 yr influential to who may i ask? to you? that doesnt count. regardless if he was tought under satriani..he isnt good. i can agree that Blackmore is amazing. he is one of my favourites. particularily on blackmores night and in rainbow. really nice celtic guitar. ghost of a rose <3. can i also say that he is definitely innovative in hsi ways. anothe rone is Steve Morse. hes amazing also. listen to Contact Lost by deep purple. now thats inspiring! another all time great is none other than Vai. for the lov eof god..is Pure..Guitar. its so smooth, sleek and gives an awing experience. now what about bob Marley..he sucked..i dont know who would pick him lol. i'd also say that frusciante and hillel Slovak are some of the most influential guitarists in the 90's despite morello and Kim. can i also say that duane Allman is one of the best guitarists ever. he was almost too innovative..listen to Whippin Post. or Can't you See. and to think that he never used cutaways..or any advanced technologies. i dont even think he used a slide.
September 15, 200619 yr influential to who may i ask? to you? that doesnt count. regardless if he was tought under satriani..he isnt good. Almost any metal band will quote Metallica as a major influence, and like it or not Kirk Hammett inspired a generation of people to pick up a guitar. People bash the guy because he's not the most skillful, but the guy can write excellent solos. I'd rather sit and listen to a solo from Hammett than I would from Petrucci, Vai, Yngwie or Michael Angelo Batio, despite the fact that those guys are all way more skilled. I hate it that music has become about technical prowess. La lune ne garde aucune rancune.
September 15, 200619 yr Jimi Hendrix, and a I got a video too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nePm-L0aa-E Tyvm runemetsa for this sig!
September 15, 200619 yr How could i forget David Gilmour? I'll add him to my original list. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

September 16, 200619 yr Some of my favourites: Adrian Smith, Dave Murray John Petrucci Ritchie Blackmore K.K. Downing, Glenn Tipton Eddie Van Halen Yngwie Malmsteen James Young, Tommy Shaw No idea how they would rate in the whole scheme of things, but I enjoy the bands they're in alot. ;P It really has
September 16, 200619 yr Ritchie Blackmore My concept on Blackmore has gone downhill after I've watched his performance on Come Hell or High Water. As if his arrogant posture weren't enough, the band could get along very very well without him trying hard. ^The most disturbing signature on Tip.it^Last.fm|HELLY KAYLA!|Oh the mehagurtz!|#Siencemakers"they care less about their spelling mistakes then I." - Lionheart"apinagez... let me

As if his arrogant posture weren't enough, the band could get along very very well without him trying hard. His playing is brilliant on that DVD though, and his arrogance was partly what made the live shows so electric. You can't deny it's AMAZING when Blackmore walks out just in time for the Highway Star solo, and just rips it. Child in Time is unbelievable on that DVD as well. La lune ne garde aucune rancune.

And you're right, probably Glover and Lord wouldn't have played with so much passion if Blackmore were in a normal mood. However, even though his attittude has made the show spectacular, it was terrible for the band. ^The most disturbing signature on Tip.it^Last.fm|HELLY KAYLA!|Oh the mehagurtz!|#Siencemakers"they care less about their spelling mistakes then I." - Lionheart"apinagez... let me
