Want a PS3? Want HDTV with your PS3? Want some blue ray movies and games? Its gona cost you a hell of a lot more than $600 even for the standard version! It may just cost Sony too, posibly everything they have.

I say yay to the death of Sony. I've always hated them. I bought a PS2 and I've always thought it sucked. It just sat and collected dust while I played my GameCube and Xbox... Almost every game that I could get for PS2, I could get for Xbox or GameCube. The GTA games were one of the reasons I really liked PS2 but even they went to Xbox. Anyway, I've always had some grudge against Sony. I don't know why. This article is good news to me.

They will make a loss once it comes out i think BUT

I think it will be a short term loss for a long term gain

It's going to be a long-term loss for Sony unless they have something coming out soon after the PS3 that'll have a profit margin that covers its production cost.

No offense, but that is a really dumb reason to not like Sony. To have bought 1 item from them, the Ps2; thought it "sucked", and passed it off as a piece of sony crap just because you prefer the GameCube and Xbox to it seems rather foolish to me.

I dont like Sony's Play Stations, but I sure like everything else they got.

HDTV, digicameras, phat studio headphones, labtops, ect. They make quality products, but PS is one of their downfalls.

Bye bye sony.. I can just imagine 10 years from now, me having a sony HDTV and I get some smart a-- calling me old for having it.

It's ignorant to want Sony to stop making consoles just because of PS3. Competition is good for us consumers. No one wants one company to go to the top and let them have a monopoly over the gaming industry. You can thank Sony for what Xbox 360 is now or for the route Nintendo is taking.

Yes, competion is good.

However, with the problem in hand I don't think the PS3 would be enough to destroy sony. Usualy I find it takes two mistakes to take you down.

Sega's, for example, first blunder was the sega saturn. It was a good system, but hard to program for and just didn't really compare to the Playstation. (this sound simular at all to what sony's in right now? I've heard rumors that the PS3 is harder to program for.).

However, sega fell with the dreamcast. It wasn't because it was a bad system, but more of because it was placed at a bad time. (Because of the PS2, ironicly). After the dreamcast sega just fell from the console "race", and microsoft basicly had taken it's place.

Sony is going through a simular thing today. It's overpriced and doesn't have many games which are unique to "it". However, this will just be a small blunder, and it will take two systems for it to go down really.

It's like everyone was saying about nintendo a year or two back. "oh they won't last another generation." "After the revelolution they are just going to make games" ect. Why did they say this? Because the gamecube was not what a lot of gamers wanted.

Usualy I find it takes two mistakes to take you down.

Do you not call the XCP saga a mistake?

True, and it deffinitly was.

I don't know, maybe sony will go down this time, maybe they won't. I guess I was thinking more of mistakes pertaining to the consoles themselves.

I don't think you can compare the two situations, Sega were only in the games business - the same goes for Nintendo.

That's true. I keep thinking that the sony that makes the PS3's is a different division of sony than the ones that make TV's/Ect. (mostly because there is SOE for games). Keep forgeting that they do it all there.

Oh, sony won't die. Don't be so naive.

true tons of people bought them, but out of all the people i know who bought them, only 1/5 still have them. the psp was a good idea, but the lack of good games and support is slowly killing it, like what happened to gamecube.

onto the ps3, a couple of my friends are throwing together all of there money to see if they can afford one, not because of the games, but because they herd rumors of the core's and how you make a nuke out of it

(keep the ps3's away from the terrorists!)

They may not die, but they might just proceed with different things (other than consoles) in the future.

Erm, Sony has a built-in Blu-Ray player which is worth the $600USD price tag on its own.

To use HD-DVD with a 360 you need to purchase a $200USD external drive. Add that to the $400USD you paid for the system and you're paying the same price as you would for a PS3.

I know the price. I pay it gladly.

Yeah, your right. Let me rephrase myself:

I don't like Sony's video game productions... Everything else they do (for the most part) I like.

Im kinda glad to hear Sony's demise. It doesnt matter any, microsoft will own everything soon :anxious:

Its better to be judged by twelve, than to be carried by six.

I hope they drop out of making video games... Ps2 sucked, and ps3's controller is pratically plagerism of Nintendo's and there system is a George Forman Grill :P

Stop acting such a moron.

I liked the Playstation series and games. I had a PS2 for about 3 years before getting an xbox. I loved the crash banicoot, gta, and gt series too. I no longer play my ps2 only because i like FPS's now. The ps3 looks amazing though and i may save up as it will slowly far in price some day.

Hmm. It won't be the death of Sony, but I do agree that if the PS3 fails miserably, they won't be in the console business anymore.

Thank you 4be2jue for the wonderful sig and avatar!

This console war is just like real war, new things and technologies come out afterward to beat your opponent and get an edge on them in the next war.

This war is highly likely that sony will end up loosing hard.

but as much as i hate sony and they're console product line, i hope they learn from their stupid mistakes (alot have been made already), and improve on the next-next generation if they so choose to even have one.

Just because they charge $600 doesn't mean it's worth it. What's more, will it still be 'worth' it when blu-ray crashes and burns?
