Fightfish
Ok so my idea is for jagex to introduce an item, the Members Pass into the game. This members pass will contain 31 days' worth of membership that will be credited to the account when used. Here, i propose that when players pay the $5 to jagex, they do not automatically get credited with the 1 month worth of membership - they use the $5 to buy these Members Passes. This may seem redundant, you may think, but I feel that this has many advantages and virtually no disadvantages; espeically since a similar idea has been implemented in an online text game that I play, and I find the system very good and useful. Firstly, this will allow people who cannot pay for members in real cash, or people whose parents are not willing to get members for them, to get members by buying these members passes from other players ingame. Will this affect jagex's revenue from members? Obviously not, as the demand will rise and more members passes will be purchased, instead leading to jagex making even more money, and players are also satisfied - win-win situation. Secondly, it solves the problem of real world trading. It is difficult to stop real world trading as the perpetrators are almost impossble to catch. "If you cant beat em, join em", the saying goes. With this option, people who want to 'buy' gp can simply buy these members passes and then sell em ingame since it will be a safe and sure trade for them. Again, Jagex benefits, instead of letting the macroers earn this money. It also serves to note that NO gp of any form is being added to the game in this way. Please feel free to voice any opinions or constructive critisms on my idea. Fightfish~99 wc achieved on 14th June 2006~

Zonorhc
I think what he means is that you pay the $5 and you get a tradeable ingame item. It's a fair enough system, but there's still the problem of people falling for trade scams. BlackKingX
I actually like this idea.. Although it could do with a lot of tweaking. But being able to trade membership for items would be great.. Although the drawback would be people who are rich in real life, would become richer ingame. They could buy like 500 membership passes, and just sell them ingame to free worlds. =\ Of course normal membership should deffiniatly stay the way it is already.. I'd rather be billed automatically, than buy and use some item once a month.
Zonorhc
But being able to train membership for items would be great.. Although the drawback would be people who are rich in real life, would become richer ingame. They could buy like 500 membership passes, and just sell them ingame to free worlds. =\ Feh. If I had two and a half grand, I'd have a lot more better things to spend it on that the prospect of getting more money in an MMO. Giordano
Which means the son of Bill Gates can have anything he wants, while I'm stuck EARNING my items? BlackKingX
Which means the son of Bill Gates can have anything he wants, while I'm stuck EARNING my items? How do you know Bill Gates doesn't play himself? "Sons" arn't the only people who play.. I myself am an adult, and thousands of others that play RuneScape are as well(18+). Also I know lots of girls that play too.. Some of them play as guys because of all the guys going up to them and being rude. :|
no_username4
And then runescape would be just another game where money = in game power. You know, tons of MMORPG's do this. And it stinks. The real world trading rule is meant to prevent what this would cause. Two thumbs down
Waffleh
I agree, if Jagex puts this in the game, they would be contrdicting their own "no real world trading" rule. Also, if the text-base browser game you are talking about is Furry-Paws (man, I haven't played that in at least three years...) then you much not know much about economy, because that game has almost no economy whatsoever, and the economy it does have is so messed up it's not even funny. :shame:
drapit
Kinda cool idea... But the price of the membership passes(in gp) may go down as more and more ppl buy.
Stallion4589
i disagree. it would be a way for those who have rl wealth to prosper in-game. there should be a defined line between your real-life and runescape socio-economic status.
fire_mage_9
I believe that this is a poorly thought out idea, and it will most likely never be implemented, or even suggested to Jagex. It has so many problems that it simply isn't a viable option. As Stallion4589 said, this idea would favour those with a higher socio-economic status, and would make life much harder for the middle-lower classes. Another flaw is that this would be in direct contradiction to Jagex's 'No Real World Trading Law', and would also raise the argument: "If people can buy members passes with real money, and sell ingame for gp, why can't i buy/sell gp on ebay?" (note: this is just an example) This would also be a downright disadvantage to people who actually put in several hours a day to train skills/merchant, as the people who buy these passes can get quick gp for no effort whatsoever. Yet another problem is billing. Some people would rather be billed automatically per month (as BlackKingX said), rather than having to go through the process of buy a 'membership pass'. Also, people with lots of money could also buy membership for all of their friends, giving them an advantage over other players without this privelidge. So, in conclusion, this is a crudely constructed out idea, and you should spend more time considering the pros and cons before posting. :shame:
