October 28, 200619 yr Most of your little theories are so godawful wrong. Most of you guys who say that rich people sit on their butt all day. That's WRONG. You actually don't know how they will spend the money. There's a lot of rich people that live a regular life...just with benefits. Like going out to eat every 2 weeks or going to a good university. I'd rather be rich because when you're poor you can't live a rich or regular life. When you're rich, you can live a regular life if you choose to do so. Yeah, but the thread question was do rich kids have a happier/better life. I'd say not necessarily. Adulthood is entirely different. Who the heck wouldn't want to at least have some money *in reserve*? Of course most people would like to have more money when they're older, and I say in the world we currently live in, it's worth pursuing. No, money does not make people "evil" or "uncaring". It depends on who's using the money. Growing up since age 0 getting used to getting everything you want from a simple toy to a lamborghini when you're 16 might give you the wrong ideas about life though.
October 28, 200619 yr Not to be rude, or cocky, but I am reasonably "rich." We live in a million dollar + neighborhood, and as some of you may know, we just bought a corvette last weekend. Some of my material possesions are a black motorola razr V3, a Massage chair w/ matching footrest in my room, thousand dollar bed, ps2, citizen ecodrive watch, 2 ipods (one old, and now my new video I got), and my new $130 dollar Element skateboard. No, actually, my life sucks. My parents are divorced, and my dad suffers from severe depression. I have been physically abused before, but now, I fight back. Part of living with a depressed person. My mom works 80+ hours a week, in my basement, sitting on her computer all day. I hardly ever see her despite the fact she works out of my house. Ever since my parents were divorced, my life has been a living hell. I have wished to die before, which I still do not regret to much to this day. The girl I like, to my knowledge, I think she likes me just as a friend, and that's probably only for the money I have. I have around $15,000 dollars between savings, bonds, and my college account. My mother has already agreed that she would, if I did not get a scolarship, she would buy me into Harvard. Ultimately I'd love to get a Masters in pre-law from Harvard, and continue into Law school there. I'd love to be a criminal attorney, and I have the fiancial backing to do so. I'd much rather be more middle class, although being rich does have it's benefits. I dunno. Although, I do like my things. :XD: My Farewell thread. Please post nicely, or die. :^_^:Yea, I'd vote for him too. But I don't think they let Iraqis vote :P
October 28, 200619 yr Buying into Harvard and being a criminal attorney. Buying your way into school isn't really against the law (not really sure though)moral conflicts maybe, but it does conflict with someone's values of working hard, with flashing the cash. Sort of a play on verbal irony I think.
October 28, 200619 yr how is money=popularity? Most of those things can be achieved with a middle class income.... But of corse being rich makes your life easier...most people will spend a good portion of their life workin for money..if you already have it you have lots of free time RSN: Bantam222 [105 combat] [1578 total level]Support my quest for 1600 Skill Total!
October 28, 200619 yr Yes, i agree they have a good life, but people who are like that, who just get money off their relatives, are not liked by many people. And you cant use money to get people to like you.

October 28, 200619 yr A good life isn't about how much you have; it's what you do with who and what you've got. Exactly. Couldn't of said it better myself. I shall take my flock underneath my own wing, and kick them right the [bleep] out of the tree. More truth comes out of the following sayings then people will ever believe: "Its not having what you what, its wanting what you've got" "You only desire what you don't have" The title of this thread should be "Life isn't fair. Do optimistic kids live a better life?"
October 28, 200619 yr By the way, money doesn't buy ****ing popularity, it's having a good personality. I was student body president for that, and I didn't even waste a cent for campaigning. I think you should rethink your stereotypes. No money doesn't really. Having a good personality can get you popularity but I don't think it can get you the popularity as in hanging out with the "popular kids" clique at school. That's all a matter of who you make friends with in like elementary/middle school or so. The popular people at my school at least have been the same people for a long time with the exception of a few people who joined later. Once again, if we are talking about the "popular crowd," to be honest with you, they are some of the more boring people at my school on a deeper level than the masks most of them put on. Like I said, I don't think you can say either rich kids do or don't have a better life. Every case is different. October 28, 200619 yr So often, hard work brings more hard work. Getting a promotion at a corporate job brings more responsibilities, more overtime and more kissing butt to get to the top. What so many hard workers forget is that the reason they go to work is to make money and make themselves happy. So many people work themselves so hard that they are never happy, and so many people around me fail to understand the significance of this. After all, what's the point in living if you aren't comfortable? I'm not saying that we should all quit our jobs and be bums, but let's examine other countries like Spain: they take a siesta, or Japan, whose workforce spends 3 hours commuting to Tokyo and working 6 hours. They all work smarter and get more done in less time. It seems that the majority of the Western world fails to grasp the true meaning of living. That said, I think that rich kids do have a better life, if they are raised correctly. Ideally they need to be sociable people that understand that everything comes at a price and that they should be relatively frugal and utilize what they have before thinking about buying new things, but so often this isn't the case, and this is where all those bleeding-heart "I want family because I can't buy myself friends" stereotypes come from. If your parents are rich, you are well-natured and not stuck up, and you live reasonably and can work when necessary and have something constructive to do to occupy your time (eg a hobby or job that you enjoy and do simply for the fun of it) then I'd say you have a very good, fulfilling life, as opposed to somebody that is absolutely swamped with their career or who believes that they have it incredibly tough when they don't even know the half of what other people must endure every day. handed me TWO tissues to clear up. October 28, 200619 yr You don't have to be rich to have a good life..My parents make about 50 grand a year and when I turned 16 I got a job to buy my own stuff. But I still socialize with friends, have a good time in school and all. Money doesn't buy happiness in life. Some rich kids get spoiled so badly, (watch MTV) and others dont get spoiled at all. I like to earn my own stuff, its more fun then to mooch off parents. My skill blog.
October 28, 200619 yr As has been said, it makes your life easier, but whether or not it makes your life better is dependant on the person. If I was even slightly better off, and didn't have to work my arse off to make money for university and for a few of my owns wants, I know I would be alot happier (and doing better and school, and not as stressed, and so forth).
October 29, 200619 yr My parents may make 200K a year, but, my PSP, my DS lite, my 1,000 dollars, they were all from a summer job at minimum wage, and savings. The only advantage I have of being upper-middle class is that I can work at my dad's office. I don't consider my self rich, I don't consider myself upper-middle class, because my parents are, not me.
October 29, 200619 yr I don't think it would make it EASIER, just less stressed and a little more good stuff. I live a life in which i have to work for things, and i'm happy with it. I like to experience life the way it comes, and earn things so when i get it i can enjoy it. Somehow, being not-rich lets me think more deeply about things.
October 29, 200619 yr The real question is.. would you want your own children to grow up in a rich or poor environment? Though people may say that being rich isn't necessarily a better life.. I imagine that few people would deny their children the opportunity. For it is the greyness of dusk that reigns. The time when the living and the dead exist as one.

I think my parrents did a good job at this. My dad deffinitly does make a good bit of money, but he was raised as a fammers boy in south dakota. Thus, he has a very strong sense on saving because he didn't have that kind of money as a child. However, since he works in the army (and is a Col. rank) he makes a good bit of money.

Would your child have to share a bedroom? Would your child be able to invite lots of friends over because there was space in your garden rather than living in a flat? Would your child grow up in a nice area where he was unlikely to be pressured to join drug groups? Would you like to be able to pay for your child's college education? Would you prefer to get home from work at 6pm every day at the latest so that you could spend time with your child? Would you like to be able to take your child on vacations abroad so that it could learn about and experience different cultures? None of these are particularly "spoiling" a child, yet poor people cannot necessarily do them. For it is the greyness of dusk that reigns. The time when the living and the dead exist as one.

I think he's trying to say that most people think since rich kids have tons of money at their disposal, society assumes they're happy whilst they assume the poor kids are miserable. Though in reality there are rich kids who are miserable and poor kids who are perfectly content with what they have and are happy to have a meal at all. Just my thoughts on that.. November 1, 200619 yr Author Some rich kids are actualy misserable. Some (if not more) poor kids are actually misserable as well. I fail to see yuor point. November 1, 200619 yr I was reading a psychology journal article the other day (Tyler, 2006) that suggested that society likes to stereotype groups so that it feels like social inequalities are justified and everyone benefits from how the social system is. The poor are viewed as 'disadvantaged but happy' and the rich are viewed as 'deserving of the wealth they have but miserable'. So, the poor feel satisfied with their situation, because 'at least they're happy'.. and the rich don't care about the poor because they 'worked hard for their wealth in a meritocratic society'. I encourage the poor not to accept their situation, and the rich to recognise that life isn't fair, and they probably just got lucky. Finally: "Some people are born on third base and go through life thinking they hit a triple" (Switzer, 2005). For it is the greyness of dusk that reigns. The time when the living and the dead exist as one.
