wich is the better sword

Featured Replies

hi i am curious to know wich is a better sword a rune long sword or rune scimmy i have seen that rune long has better stats but whz all people use scimmy can someone explain this to me

Scmitars are faster than longswords, making them more popular for training.

Yeah, would definately recommend the scimmy over a long sword any day.

This is a question that has been asked forever and it still as the same answer, neither is really a better sword. Scimmy is slightly faster but the long is slightly more powerful. Its all a matter of preference. So pick which one you prefer, not the one that someone else says is best.

I personally use a long. But it is like the chicken or the egg. You'll never know. Even if a specialist say what came first you still might think the other is better.

I suggest you get both(if you have the money) then see what you like better.

I used to use long but now I prefer scimitar, your max hit is maybe one less than it would be if you used the long sword but I like the increased speed. As to which is better I don't think there is a definite answer.

Check out my Pocket Slot idea!

i myself like the scimmy better, it is a bit more expensive than ls (rune ones in world 1)

I ahve always been using scimmies all the way fromlvl 1 and i am now currently 59 but will be lvl 60 by tommorow

The the short answer is:

Scimmy is faster but weaker

Long is slower but stronger

Also, you should consider the Defense of the monster.

Chain mail wearing monsters are weak to stab attacks.

A long sword has a good stab attack but the scimmy does not.

If the monster has no armor or only robes,

then a slash attack would work well.

Scimmy and long both have good slash attacks.

If the monster has a weakness to crush attack (Ice giants for example)

then the R2Her or Baxe might be a better weapon to use.

So, to pick the best weapon you really have to consider 3 things:

Speed, Strength, and monster Defense.

One of the things that Jagex stated (back during the switch-over from RSC to RS2)

was that they wanted to provide more variety in weapon use.

Hence, they have tried to "make all weapons useable."

Hope this helps

You know whats even better than that? A rune dagger. Hits about 3/4

of the damage a rune 2h does, and hits twice as fast. So in turn, the rune dagger would be a great way to train and kill. THen again, the skimmy is not that far off in means of speed, but it is much more powerful. So... As you can see, faster hitting is always more powerful than slower hitting. Why do you think the same combat level archer can kill the same monster faster, him hitting 8's and you hitting 15 every 5 seconds.

How about now... WILDERNESS!

i would definitly say smitcher

Well I preffered the rune long (or a dragon long now) because of the higher hit and more accuracy.

Scimitars are just as good though, and a lot easier to find sellers.

It's all based on preference.

Both are cabbage but scimmy is somewhat better.

I would suggest scimmy, like everyone else. The difference is scimmy is faster, but weaker. Long is slower, but stronger.

off topic but the egg came first we learned it in science. a snake had a [developmentally delayed] baby and a chicken came out of the egg.

My carbon footprint is bigger than yours...and you know what they say about big feet.

These are the times that try mens souls...

I know this is weird...

but does a short sword/dagger/and scimmy hit at the same speed?

it seems so...

The scimitar is a little faster, allowing you to get a few more hits on your enemy. So the scimmy is definitely better for training.

For pking, its another story. I personally like the long for these reasons:

1)The long is more accurate (higher slash) than scimmy

2)The long has a decent stab attack while the scimmy has barely any.(making it more versatile)

3)The long has a higher stre bonus, allowing you to hit 1-2 pts higher.

4)The long is less popular, and is therefore cheaper. The long is 15-20k, 25k at most. While scimmy ranges from 25-30k.

Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.

Scimitars hit faster(and look cooler  ) than a rune long, making them more popular for low to mid level training weapons.

hmmm i have seen scmy since RSclassics and back then all bladed weapon looks the same i.e same length, looks etc. (even a dagger looks as long as a sword)

And back then, i think there's no speed for any weapon(correct me if i am wrong RSC players~) so naturally its either r2h or rbattle.

but personally IMHO, i think long looks better because it goes well with the "medieval" style armor in RS. So unless u are wearing Arabian style armor or something. long goes better with platemails.

But training wise, if ur attack is high and have no problem getting the hits in, then mebbe i suggest longsword.

if u wanna hit more often, then scmy is for u.

I used to always use a longsword, but now I find that I can't use anything slower than a scimmy. So scimmy imo.
