WeeBoab
i eat meat because i enjoy the taste and texture of it, alot more-so than vedgetables, i rly dnt care if its another animal, its the natural way of things. think a hungry tiger would think twice about eating u? humans an omnivores - we're equiped to eat both vedgies & meat, dnt see y we should waste tht? and if u dnt like killing animals to eat them, if its something like shark, ur saving seals by eating it :anxious: My photobucket
WeeBoab
To most people in the world the 'truth' means nothing because meat may be their *only* alternative, especially in rural areas, besides rice or other growable protein sources. You can't eat the truth. When you talk about people switching to vegetarians, it makes very little difference in the whole world. Sure, if 750 people (like in your example) stop eating meat in London, maybe 1 or 2 cows less will be butchered. Still somewhere else in the world people are starving to death and will slaughter their domestic animals like cows for the meat. Almost all living creatures eat other species, even a beloved pet dog or cat that are supposedly 'innocent' if left in their natural environment without human care. Is it wrong just because you have alternatives? Would dogs be immoral if they chose to kill instead of eating plants? Why do some vegetarians consider eating fish which are just as 'living' as other animals? That has baffled me the most. What difference does it make if your food is 'red' or any other color of meat.. It's still a living thing. (Or was) A difference is still a difference. You're saving the life of one cow. That might not seem alot in the grand scheme of things, but a life is a life is a life. And only some vegetarians consider eating fish. They basically don't value the lives of fish. There's always some black sheep in a family. if we didnt domesticate cows for butchery/dairy products they wouldnt exist. they would have been picked off by natural predators AGES ago, so think about it. we give all of them a chance at life for a few burgers? fair trade IMO, considering they dont really think, do i want to die? I don't think cows would have been picked off by predators. Have you ever been up close to a cow? The things are huge, and they are pack animals. They're like water buffalo in Africa...Some even have horns! :P My friend was personally almost killed by a cow once, lol. Like I said, they're huge and the cow trampled him and was charging him...He had to jump over a fence. Dairy farming = fun? :P So, by no means are they defenseless, stupid animals. Pretty stupid? Yes. Pretty defenseless? Yes. But they're large, and they roam around in packs, so there would still be a lot. Case in point; Water Buffalo...Buffalo...*Ahem*. Reminds me of the Zebra I saw that drowned a lion who was latched onto it's neck so it could get away. killer_stone
Many animals eat meat. Humans are no different from animals. Why shouldn't they eat meat? There are no morals except for those you choose to adopt.
E_D_G_E_1039
I agree with pretty much what killer_stone said. Animals have eaten meat for thousands of years, humans being one of those animals.

Have you ever heard of a bull? thats my point, a cow is female and a bull is male, bulls have horns, therefore its pshyically impossible for a cow to have horns. Cows have UDDERS coz theyre female and bulls have HORNS coz theyre male capiche? My photobucket

issy2
It is healthy to eat vegetables, but you won't be a healthy person if you only eat vegetables. You need protein from meat. How many times do I have to say it... you do not need meat to be a healthy person! I think I posted more details on page 12.

Maybe we should change our proces to get meat tough. World population is to big these days.

WeeBoab
Now lets pretend all those protein subsititues and all those other pills, etc. don't exsist. I think we should eat meat because its something thats needed by our bodies. . We do NOT need to eat meat to survive!!! God, I hate it when people say stuff like that when it's blatantly not true. One of my friends, despite having 100% meat-eating parents, became a vegetarian at a very young age (about 6 or 7) and he is totally healthy. He's grown well and is taller than me, he's probably about 5foot, maybe less. He drinks lots of milk and eats lots of nuts. You do NOT need meat to survive - you need protein. And the two are very different things. Bigger things eating littles is nature, why change nature? Just because it's natural doesn't mean it's right. who said anything about right? this is what bugs me about vegies, they say its not morally right. so EVERYTHING in the world tht eats other living things is not morally right? politically speaking vegies eat living things, as vegdetables come from plants, and plants are living things, agreed? otherwise how could they grow? BACKFIRE! vegies lose. if animals didnt eat other animals the world would be WAY out of balance and we'd be dead. My photobucket

bob2001
It has to b a free choice but if you would never kill an animal with your bare hands and then eat it then you can never eat meat. i say this, not as a vegetarian, but as someone who works on a poultry farm and as such i think nothing about culling a bird. If you can come to my place of work look arround teh conditions and say " i am happy with the conditions these birds live in, and it justifies my low price for chicken at the supermarket" then as long as you could go over to one,. pick it up, kill it and THEN eat it. should you be allowed to eat meat. i realised that the average age of people reading this will be somewhat lower than working age but i feel it is important that if we are to have this debate that peopel think about it. baron8000
Having read through the whole thread (ouch my head) there are far too many things to comment on and as this thread has made me incredibly hungry i will be brief. The simple fact is: i don't care I don't care if the coo beastie is killed for my steak I don't care if the pig beastie is killed for my bacon I don't care if chickens are killed for my sunday lunch I have no noble reasoning for this, my reason for not caring is not because i feel i need meat to be healthy, i don't care because the nice taste greatly outweighs any feeling of guilt i might have. If there was a shortage of meat, or extinction was possible i would indeed stop eating it because i would care - there would be a problem. There are plenty of cows about, there is lots of pigs, there is an abundance of small feathery things that go cluck - no problem, but you certainly wouldnt catch me tucking into a plate of orangutang. I may draw the line at veal, that does create a slight twinge in the old conscience, but with free range chickens etc i see no problem, they are going to die - why not use them? It is the base state of humanity as rulers of the earth (not in any religious sense, simply the fact) to use it to their advantage. If it does give you problems fine, not a problem for me, but once again, don't expect me to care, or indeed listen. Sorry for the extremely pessimistic views in places , now time for lunch, bacon and eggs or a lovely leafy salad.... can you guess?
