Checking out other peoples levels and names..?

I do both, right-click people when I'm doing anything really or even just walking about and check up virtually random people on the high scores.

I'd like to see the total level and combat of people, I think skillers would appreciate it too ::'

I always right-click near bank booths and see if any Tip-Iters are around, or people with funny names. 8-)

Yep. When you have an odd name like I do, (Bacon_Man22), you often get some attention, but I usually see who's around me, and look up their totals and skills when they're the same lvl to see if I'm on track. It gives you something to talk about especially when you're doing odd things like I [always] am. Currently I am gathering materials for 500 chocolate cakes. Why? I just had the urge for 500 chocolate cakes. It also becomes a habit when you get back from pking. You have to right click to see what levels are around you and distinguish between pk names.

Also as said before, when people make outrageous claims, you can't help but look it up to see if they're lieing. I met a guy who claimed to have 118 fishing... his fishing wasn't even in the highscores of course. But yeah, I do it and I'm proud to be that OCD. \'

I hate it how people judge others by their levels. If that idea was implemented I wouldnt be surprised if I got plenty of "noob, go train Hunting" responses or others of the sort from idiots who think that I should do something I don't want to do.

I also hate how people are judged by their levels and my idea would not change that. However, being judged on your total skills level would be better that just judged on the basis of a small sub-set of skills.

As for the taunting - how would anyone know from your Total Skills level which skills you have not trained? Answer - they wouldn't. In fact just displaying your combat level will draw attention to the idiots who taunt based on Combat levels. My idea would remove the harassment that Combat level 3 "pures" get, things like "xxxx must be a macroer he's only lev 3 yet cutting Yews", "OMG a lvl 3 pmod what are Jagex doing making a lvl 3 pmod", "xxx is a noob only lvl 3" etc.

What is it with people and thinking that others have to have a certain total level at specific combat levels? Why do so many people feel it right to spend their time doing stuff they don't want to do, let alone tell me to do stuff I don't want to do?

Again, I agree there should be no parallel drawn between Total skills and Combat skills. I used to get fed up being told that my Combat level was too low (at Combat Level 50 my Total skill leve was around 1500). I don't get that now my combat level is 100+. However, my suggestion would not stop this either.

So, no, having total level shown wouldn't be a good idea >_>.

So, what you want is no level displayed at all then (except in Wildy)? Because this is the only way you would stop all the problems you have highligjhted

[convincing argument]

Okay, I have successfully been swayed to change my opinion  .

I guess it'd be kinda cool to see who's got some high levels without having to go through the hassle of looking them up. Come to think of it, total experience would be cool too to see who's got more variation in their levels (i.e., someone with a 1400 total would have a higher exp total than someone else with a 1400 total if he had more high and low levels and less middle/average levels). I'll just have to go on not caring what others think of my levels  .

I always do that, have ever since I can remember. Just a habit. If I didn't do it I wouldn't of met some people I have added on my list. It happened just today. Ran into Trixstar at Castle Wars, we chatted for a bit and eventually added each other. If I would of just ran off into a game then, well, that wouldn't of happened obviously. ;)

That happened to us aswell, Cept it was in Edgeville. He's gotta get 99 prayer soon.

Their name and levels usually tell a lot about them. If a level three comes along with the name 1earh235, probably an autoer, but if a level three with the name "Skill Pure 12653" comes along, well, obviously decently experienced and most likely has a main. If a level 20 comes along, you can tell from the name that he/she's either a pure or a complete noob #-o and you'll figure out how to deal with them, lol.

Yet more examples of the misconceptions that can arise by using Combat level as an indication of how good a player is

In your level 3 name examples either one of them, or both, or neither of them could be autoers - you just can't tell by combat levels. Mind you it might be just as difficult using total skill levels.

Similarly a level 20 may not be a complete noob as you suggest. It might just be that they have been playing for years, but only just started combat training. In this case showing total skill level would show up the misconception.

Remember the adage "You can't judge a book by its cover". or translated to RS "You can't judge an avatar by its name (or combat level)"
