January 8, 200719 yr Today, I woke up as usual, had a shower and brushed my teeth; the usual. On the way back from the bathroom I began clearing the wax from my ear with a cotton bud; leaving it in there for a second and turning round, I knocked it off the side of the door, pushing it deep into my ear and piercing my ear drum. Let me tell you; feeling warm blood mixed with an incredibly sharp, aching pain in the inside of your ear is not a nice experience. It's bled again since then, and it feels horrible. Tomorrow I have to have the morning off to go to the doctors and find out if there's any long-term damage. A lot of my hearing in that ear is shot, I have to refrain from sleeping on it, and truth be told it hurts like hell. So just a heads up, don't use cotton buds to clean your ears.
January 8, 200719 yr How do we clean our ears then? A little hydrogen peroxide can work wonders. And the bubbles feel oh so relaxing. "In so far as I am Man I am the chief of creatures. In so far as I am a man I am the chief of sinners." - G.K. Chesterton
January 8, 200719 yr I believe the problem should not to be put upon the item, but upon yourself. You should have known not to leave something like that in your ear, it can cause damage, your conscience should have forseen this, aswell as common sense. :| Though, I've heard one of those wax candle things work very good.... :XD:
January 8, 200719 yr Ouch. But.. Don't you mean.. Don't walk around whilst cleaning your ears with cotton buds? My dA account..retired, as of the 1st January 2008.
January 8, 200719 yr You're not supposed to shove it all the way into your ear dude, its not the swabs fault. ~^v^~Ex-Leader of the Divine Flames of Redemption~^v^~
January 8, 200719 yr I used a cotton bud in my ear after I had a bath, just fidling it around in my ear, must of slipped, hurt a bit, then I felt really faint. I had to lay down for a bit. I don't think I bursted my ear drum, but it could be an ear wax monster growing in my ear. :uhh: :ohnoes: No longer playing Runescape, I caught the WoW bug.
January 8, 200719 yr Sometimes when I'm cleaning my ears it feels like its pierced, but as son as it feels weird, i pull it out ^Sir Jem 05-The Bunny Drinking Blog?^ Click it!
January 8, 200719 yr Im not a doctor, and i dont know for 100%, but from what ive been told... Ear drums dont grow back, and if they do, it takes many many years.. You could have bad hearing for the rest of your life... Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! Behave or I will send my Moose mounted Beaver launchers at you!
January 8, 200719 yr You made my stomach turn just reading that. You should write a horror story or something. Anyway I'll just use my fingers like I always do :P Now my ear hurts and I feel like throwing up. Damn you. Supermonk, proving you wrong since 1992. Supermonk rocks, I want to have his children.Music is like candy. You always get rid of the rapper.
January 8, 200719 yr There's another reason too...If you're cleaning deep in the ear canal you can push the wax farther in causing infection. ShadowFaxPZ wrote: How do we clean our ears then? January 8, 200719 yr When reading that, it felt like my ear was bleeding, but it was actually my hair over my ears... ^Sir Jem 05-The Bunny Drinking Blog?^ Click it!
January 8, 200719 yr Pretty much your foolish mistake that could be costly... Thats why I stay IN the same place when I clean my ears, just in case. :uhh: "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."

January 9, 200719 yr So we shouldnt use a certain product because you had an easily avoidable accident? The world would be a whole lot better if little green men in UFO's came down to earth to abduct rednecks.

You could have bad hearing for the rest of your life... From what I've been told, that is false. One of my mom's good friends was cleaning her son's ear with a Q-Tip when he squirmed and it ruptured his ear drum. He had hard hearing in the ear for a while, but it eventually fixed itself and there is no permanent damage, and if there is it is very little. Though yours may end up differently, people don't need do be spreading BS how it takes years or never.

Though yours may end up differently, people don't need do be spreading BS how it takes years or never. Oh im, sorry if i even stated in my post that i wasnt 100% sure, it was just what i was told. Now i have gone to a legit source and found the answer. What is a perforated eardrum? A perforated eardrum is also commonly referred to as a "ruptured" eardrum. It is a hole in the eardrum or "tympanic membrane" - the thin membrane which separates the ear canal from the middle ear. What causes a perforated eardrum? A perforated eardrum is generally caused by either trauma or a middle ear infection. Examples of different types of trauma that would cause a perforated eardrum are: a skull fracture, a sudden explosion, sticking something such as a Q-tip too far into the ear, or getting hit in the ear. This condition is most often accompanied by decreased hearing and occasionally a bloody drainage from the ear. The amount of hearing loss that occurs depends on the size and location of the hole in the membrane. Pain may be inconsistent. How is a perforated eardrum treated? Many acutely perforated eardrums can heal by themselves after a few weeks, however, some may take up to several months. A person with this condition should avoid water (showering or swimming) and trauma to the ear during the healing process. If the perforation does not heal on its own, surgery may be necessary. The surgery allows healing by placing tissue across the perforation. This procedure is known as a tympanoplasty. http://www.nyee.edu/faqlist.html?tablename=faq&key=73&print= Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! January 9, 200719 yr The old saying goes "never put something in your ear smaller than your elbow". This serves two points, 1: You won't ever put anything in your ear 2: You look like an idiot trying to get your elbow up to your ear.
January 9, 200719 yr Can't you get that Otex thingmibob that's always advertised, (here in the UK at least). Yeah my housemate always tells me not to use cotton buds. what happened to you though, ouch, not a nice image at all, hope you recover, and all is well. SHH HUT YUH MUH. DERKHED.
January 9, 200719 yr How do we clean our ears then? Easy, with your finger. You know why? Because you're never gonna be dumb enough to push your finger too far into your ear or knock it on a door turning around. Sure, it sounds disgusting, but it's nothing soap and water won't fix! This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
